Embellishing Nam Hai heritage with Four Seasons flair, Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai is a harmonious ode to coast, culture and community in Vietnam’s UNESCO-strewn centre. Once a fishing village – with a historic temple preserved on site – the Resort presents an authentic connection to the region through inspiring on-site activities, from a cooking academy and earth-attuned spa to exhilarating water sports and cultural excursions. Located on a private one-kilometre (half-mile) stretch of Ha My Beach – hailed by Forbes as one of the best beaches in the world – the Resort is reborn under Four Seasons as a beacon of beauty that reflects the soul of Vietnam’s cultural heartland and illuminates the spirit of all who visit: the culturally curious, beach purists, intrepid families, culinary connoisseurs and well-being devotees alike.

I spent two wonderful nights at the Four Season the Nam Hai In July 2020. I’ll start off by saying that the property is absolutely gorgeous (the photos don’t lie). The villas are tastefully appointed and laid out in a way that is easy to navigate. Every staff member I came in contact with was warm, friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was delicious and offers al a carte options too. Overall, this is a plush, beach resort that ticks all the usual boxes that you’d expect from a Four Seasons property. Here comes my caveat. The usual rate for a basic villa (breakfast included) hovers around 1,000 USD. In light of Covid-19, the Four Seasons was running a special rate for Vietnamese locals and foreign workers, which brought my nightly room rate down to a little under 500 USD for the two nights. At this rate, I felt like the hotel was on point and it was money well spent. In Southeast Asia, if you spend 1,000 USD or more per-night I would expect the hotel room to be either very large, super private, unique and / or have a private swimming pool. None of these factors describes a basic room at Four Seasons the Nam Hai. This is a beautiful hotel, but I feel like the average price points here reflect the Four Seasons brand, more than it does the hotel itself (keep in mind, this hotel was not originally owned by the Four Seasons; it was The Nam Hai before, and underwent renovations). Property prices in Da Nang / Hoi An are high, but there are numerous hotels along the road that are no where near those price points. If you are coming from overseas and you’re looking to drop that kind of money, I would sooner go to one of the Six Senses resorts, Banyan Tree Lang Co or Amanoi – at those hotels, the high price tag is understandable. As lovely at Four Seasons the Nam Hai is, I would only return if / when they run a special that brings the room rate down to where it should probably be.

I am using the lockdown period for something I should have done very long ago: thank and rate the wonderful experiences, we have made at the Four Seasons Nam Hai. I have been at this hotel several times with friends as well as with family. I am usually a very critical guest, however from arrival to departure there is everything up to perfection in this property. We especially appreciated the great support from the butlers, the great food (especially in the Indian restaurant) and the management team. The privacy in the villas is high of value, the beach is definitely among the top beaches in Asia and the layout of the property allows a very comfortable and relaxed stay. As soon as we can travel again this hotel would be my first destination!

All in this resort is near to perfection! Service is out of this world, all staff well trained, friendly and attentive. All areas are perfectly maintained and beautifully arranged and decorated. The many pools are great especially the more than huge infinity pool right above the beach. We had a 3 bedroom villa with a big private pool, a huge garden with fountain and fish pond. The community house was great for evening drinks and shared movie sessions. The villas are top notch with every thinkable amenities, outdoor showers etc. Breakfast is a mix of buffet and a la carte service with great food and service. The only thing we did not enjoy was the street food market night. The food choice on the buffet was repetitve and not very tasty, the street food stands were nice but not a must have (you can have that better outside the hotel) and all in all too expensive for what it was. Overall the resort is the best place to have a few relaxing days off when travelling Vietnam. Highly recommended!

Bryan (the manager) greeted us and set the tone for what the special stay that we would enjoy. This is a beautiful, tranquil property. We loved riding our bikes around the property. It did rain most of the time we were there but we still had a good time and found plenty to do. We enjoyed yoga, massages, trips into town and just relaxing. The food is really good and breakfast is a special treat. The rooms are a little odd, we had a bathtub in the middle of our room and an strange platform bed. On the other hand, the bathroom was wonderful and large and we had a terrace with an ocean view. This has not always been a FS property so with time I am sure they will get this sorted out.

Our stay at this beautiful hotel was overshadowed by events but the way the staff dealt with it and with the guests is a compliment to the hotel. Unfortunately shortly after we arrived one of the other guests was found to have Covid-19. The area of the hotel the guest had stayed in was shut down and then the hotel announced that it would be taking no new guests and temporarily shutting down when the last of the current guests had left. That was us. However, the staff were brilliant - unflappable, charming and always keeping us informed. I would in particular like to mention the managers Sudhir and Bryan but also Tram, who served us breakfast with a smile every day and Nhat Pham. In short it is a beautiful hotel with a world class spa. We didn't see it at the optimum time but I would still recommend it. I hope your stay is undisrupted but even if it is you are in good hands.
