The place is charming and very well maintained, food is good and service excellent!! **The only thing I would recommend is to ask for a room on 2nd floor or with no one on top of you. The rooms are very nice but not at all isolated which made it very hard to sleep when other clients were even just walking around. We had room #3 also named Tilcara

Located on the shore of beautiful Apoyo lake, Casa Marimba is THE place to stay and chill for a couple of days. The staff and owners were very nice. We chose room #4 which is spacious and has a great balcony with a stunning view of the lake and volcano. All rooms have fans and a/c as well as comfortable beds. The food is mostly vegetarian but also has meat on the menu. Breakfast sweet or salted is included. Food and atmosphere are great. You can also enjoy the place on a one day basis for 5USD which is popular with the backpakers of the surrounding hostels. The dining area has 2 tables and a six stools counter. The hotel has 6 rooms. The place can be easily crowded at meal time! Kayaks are available. The lake is great for swimming. All areas of the hotel are very clean and nicely decorated. Be careful with the uneven stairways! On an overall basis we enjoyed our stay and recommend Casa Marimba!

This cute place is absolutely beautiful! Located directly next to the lake, with amazing views from the rooms and the restaurant in the middle of pure nature. The food is amazing as well. I tried the vegan burger, which was fantastic! Order it and you won’t regret it! Also the stuff is super nice! Thanks to everyone!

Beautiful tropical paradise on the shores of stunning Laguna de Apoyo. The restaurant features mediterranean-nica fusion cuisine with locally sourced, organic, seasonal produce. Vegetarian/vegan options include lasagna, pasta, pizza, musaka, hummus plate, veggie burger, vegan omelette and pancakes, smoothie bowls, super food smoothies, home made focaccia bread and kombucha. Get a day pass for only 5$ (includes a drink) and you can use the kayaks, swimming tubes and playa and eat your way through that delicious menu. They have great cocktails too and the location is just breath taking. If you decide to stay a couple of days like me, check out their rooms, who are great too. And at night you will hear the howler monkeys and some tropical birds.

I was looking for a place I could go to as a female solo traveler with a friendly welcoming atmosphere, a clean lake to swim in, kayaking and lush surroundings. I found all of this and more at Casa Marimba. I had a lovely room with a private terrace but often found myself in one of the many other areas on the property where I could mix with staff and other guests. There is an open living room area with hammocks and comfortable seating. The kitchen/bar area is warm and inviting - also open air with a simple roof. Music plays throughout the day and you can watch what's cooking in the kitchen. The waterfront is gorgeous and is set up with tables and chairs. I started my day with an early morning swim and ended it with a sunset or evening swim under the stars, followed by reading in my hammock. There are 3 kayaks available. The water temperature is about 28 degrees celsius - so basically perfect. The first few steps are stony and then it becomes more sandy - then drops off quickly. The water is very clear. The food is wonderful and several choices are offered at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Portions are quite large. $3 cocktails! Pineapple and passion fruit were in season when I was there. By 8:30 at night everything was quiet, especially during the week. Casa Marimba like other places on the lake offer day passes to visitors. Lunch time/afternoon was busier on the property a couple of days I was there but it was never crowded. I never needed the air conditioner in my room (which was downstairs). One night there were people above me and I could hear them moving around. The jungle noises were not too loud - I could hear howler monkeys in the distance. There are families living on the lake and around the property so you do hear some roosters and dogs. Casa Marimba has lovely dogs and cats My original intention was to read, rest, swim etc. but I ended up arranging a number of tours with private taxi drivers (Casa Marimba works with two different drivers). I spent a day wandering around Granada and found it beautiful, clean and safe. The Masaya volcano is well worth the trip along with a visit to the Masaya Market and a hike on Mombacho. I loved the "White Villages" and wished I'd had more time there, especially in the village San Juan de Oriente where the pottery is made - absolutely incredible. It is possible to hike there from Casa Marimba and then get a taxi back. I loved my stay at Casa Marimba on Lake Apoyo and look forward to another trip someday. I highly recommend it for families, solos and couples.
