To our extreme pleasure, we discovered Kinsterna the summer of 2011 and have been staying there every year ever since. We keep coming back because this property is beautiful, historically meaningful, the rooms luxurious, the management professional, the food wonderful, and is located in one of the prettiest areas of Greece. But more importantly, it is the extra little details...

A great find - we really enjoyed our 3 night stay early this Easter. The area is just so calm and you feel like you are a away from everything. The spa was really good too. A bit too windy for a swim in the pool when we were there, but I can imagine that it is lovely. If we...

We visited the hotel for Easter family vacations with our 2-year-old. The location is great, our villa was excellent, and staff and food was amazing. We faced a few minor problems that made our stay not perfect but overall we enjoyed it very much. We had problems with our a/c in the room, and the staff was unable to help...

Nice place! Calm resort ideal destination if you want to relax away from the noisy beach side of Monembasia! Friendly people, nice rooms, local cuisine with their own vegetables, spa, and naturally running waters from the mountain! I highly recommend this for couples.

A luxurious hotel offering respite from life in a beautiful, calm environment. Attention to detail is impressive. The staff are friendly and helpful. The location is beautiful. Konstandina gave a wonderful massage. The pool is from a spring so very refreshing and no chlorine as the water constantly changes which is great. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The internationally acclaimed Kinsterna Hotel was recently awarded by TripAdvisor, the largest and most valid hotel review platform, with the prestigious "Certificate of Excellence 2014". The Kinsterna Hotel, which is a Byzantine-era rural mansion, was painstakingly restored with tremendous respect to its long history, with the intent to establish a comprehensive settlement encompassing the main building and surrounding houses. Moreover, all activities that took place in the past on the premises have been revived. Private label products, including wine, extra virgin olive oil, olives, bread, marmalade and a Greek spirit, called "tsipouro".Tucked away in the folds of the lush hillside, with privileged views of the Medieval Castle's Rock of Monemvasia (Peloponnese, Lakonia region) and the endless blue of the Aegean Sea, the restored Byzantine-era rural mansion offers 41 unique rooms, atmospheric suites and autonomous residences and blends magically into the surrounding vineyards, timeless olive groves, imposing eucalyptuses and the lofty cypresses, within an estate of 18 acres. The Kinsterna Hotel breathes a new dimension in the concept of luxury. The enchanting nights with a glass of wine from the local privately owned vineyards next to the Byzantine cistern, the incredible culinary creations from the Greek and the Mediterranean cuisine, with delectable local products and ingredients cultivated in the estate, in the Kinsterna Restaurant, the traditional hearty Greek breakfast, the impressive river-like pool with private relaxation areas amidst the fragrant orange trees, and the atmospheric Kinsterna Spa, with the signature treatments and the highly qualified therapists, highlight the unique experience of the mansion's guests and fully justifies why Kinsterna Hotel was included in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler's Hot List as one of the 65 best new hotels in the world! ... more   less

Dear Eabs_10,

Fisrt of all we would like to thank you for your interest in Kinsterna Hotel.

Referring to the airport, the nearest to land is the Kalamata International Airport (KLX) which is located 160 km [99.5 miles] from the Kinsterna. However, the flights are limited and most important the time it takes to drive from KLX to Monemvasia due to the lack of highways is the same as with driving from the Athens International Airport (ATH) located 335 km [208 miles] from the Kinsterna.

Given the above factors we strongly suggest liaising with the ATH airport.

We hope we will soon have the opportunity to welcome you in our mansion and offer you an exceptional experience of stay!

Should you need any other information please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Best Regards,

Kinsterna Hotel

Dear mefro,

First of all we would like to thank you for your interest in Kinsterna Hotel and also to apologize for our tardy reply.

Unfortunately there is no connection with the majority of the Greek islands, so in case you are interested to visit Kinsterna, you need to drive from Athens to Monemvasia and then drive back to Athens, so as you plan your next trip to Santorini by plane or boat.

In case you are interested, please visit our official website "kinsternahotel.gr" to receive the detailed driving directions from Athens to Monemvasia (section "Contact & Access).

Thank you again and we all hope to have to opportunity to welcome you at our mansion and offer you an exceptional experience of stay!

Best Regards,

We drove from the other direction, Kalamata , though the first part of the route is the same. One option for you is to have the hotel transfer you from Athens airport, then rent a car locally, esp if you are jet lagged. Kinsterna hotel is unbelievably helpful so just ask them. However if you get a rental car at Athens, then you could stop at Epidaurus on the way.

When you rent a car, highly recommend taking out ALL the insurance to cover all eventualities. We've driven a lot in Europe and USA and Greek mountain roads are something else. Motorways are fine.

No idea about license etc, best ask Kinsterna or rental company. Have a wonderful time
