I had been looking forward to this stay for over a year. I work for the NHS and haven’t really had a break for the entirety of the pandemic so this was something I had been looking forward to for such a long time. We unfortunately got a phone call on the Wednesday when we were due to arrive on the Friday informing us that there was extensive building work going on and that the pool and spa would be out of use. I think this is just too late notice, I had the day booked off from work for months, we had a dog sitter booked and there’s no way we could’ve found somewhere else to say at such short notice. With these facilities being unavailable, the hotel had actually been mis-sold to us. We were not receiving what we originally had been sold which is just not acceptable. We have stayed here multiple times and usually it’s somewhere we can’t wait to come back to but after this I’m just not sure I’d pay so much if there willing to treat loyal customers with such disregard. I was just gutted with the overall holiday. The grounds were a building site, the reception was not inviting and covered in boxes, the car park was just a mess, the noise was constant. They decided to take the marquee down outside our beach suite with the radio blaring at a ridiculous hour on a Sunday morning. I was so in need of a break and this just wasn’t what we got.

We stayed at Carbis Bay Hotel mid June. Our experience was similar to other guests. Wonderful views but awful service. The management should be fired quite honestly - I’ve never been to a supposed 5 star hotel with such appalling service. Prior to our stay it was completely impossible to speak to anyone by phone despite trying numerous times. Always had an answer phone on. In desperation emailed them with our requirements to book for dinner, spa treatments and surf lessons. 3 days later got an email back confirming for dinners and saying the spa would be in touch to book treatments. They rang 2 days later and no appointments left. No one ever rang back about the surf lessons; we found a place ourselves and booked independently. Arrived on Friday eve.. tried to ring on journey down to advise traffic bad & we would be late for dinner but guess what? No one would pick up the phone again. Tried 16 times. No answer. Checked in by a trainee who got all the info wrong and whose Apple Watch kept ringing with her boyfriend trying to call throughout. Told we couldn’t have breakfast in the hotel; had to have it delivered to our room in a cardboard box and only time available was 10-1030am as they were fully booked. Offered a newspaper daily.. never arrived but was added to the bill. Arrived at the room which was freezing; difficult to turn heating on. Bulbs missing in lamps (never got replaced during our stay) bath fitting broken. Hard to find hotel information in the room. First morning went to have a look round. Told the pool opened at 9am. Went back at 10am to swim with the kids and told kids weren’t allowed in the pool til 1030am (no one said this before) and we couldn’t have pool towels unless we were in robes. Hence back to the room to put robes on. Farcical. The spa lady said the manager would like to speak to us as we’d had such bad customer service to date. Waited 10 minutes in reception for her to arrive during which time observed the receptionists hanging up the phone on incoming calls and one saying to the other ‘don’t answer it’. Eventually spoke to the manager but far from placating us it was more of an attempt to justify why the service had been so bad.. all apparently because the G7 Summit had taken over the hotel the previous week & they therefore couldn’t answer the phones. No sensible reply to why it was still an issue during our visit given the G7 had gone 4 days earlier. I could go

I contacted the hotel to book a dinner and a spa day a few months ago (before May) but was advised to restrictions they were unable to book a table or the spa for me and to contact them again later once restrictions were lifted. I called and messaged through again a month ago re booking a dinner table and spa day but was advised once again they were unable to book anything for me due to the upcoming G7 summit and also the spa was still going under works so unable to book that in until it opens on 18th June. This absolutely baffles me as i wasn’t sure why their booking system is restricted due to construction works? But fine, I call through today (17th June) and I am advised that all tables and spa times are booked up for rest of the month? How is that even possible when the couple of occasions I have been in touch they were unable to access their booking system? It seems that I have been taken for a run around as due to me waiting to book with Carbis Bay as per their advice, I have now missed out on booking other spa and dinner locations. Why were they not able to book me in when I contacted them initially? Or be honest so I could go elsewhere? I expect better customer service from Carbis Bay who hosted the G7 Summit so I assume the service should be 5 star quality? Or am I wrong in assuming this Do better please as I am someone who has been trying to be respectful of your limitations and requests of when to contact however I do not feel that I have had the same back.

I emailed about booking a table for lunch over a week ago. I was told they had availability and I asked to book a certain slot. I did not receive a response. I phoned today to book a table for lunch. The woman put me on hold and told me they had no availability for the date I had originally requested and was told was available. I asked for a few dates and was met with the same response. I asked when I would be able to get availability and was told the end of the summer. I could hear two girls having a conversation about my call in the background. This is not five star service. To ignore a request after initial contact about a booking is rude. It is also rude for two girls to be blatantly lying in the background, which was obvious by the way. We were coming for our honeymoon and were also planning on staying the night, which I was in the process of booking/paying for. Don't think I will bother staying or coming.

Had great expectations for this hotel.Arrived on Friday, car park full of boulders vans, skips and general rubbish.Sun was shining and sat on terrace where we had a delicious lunch overlooking the beach.Location is amazing.Customer relations guy was wandering around talking to everybody and there were a lot of complaints.Service shoddy, we got the feeling we were in the way and they just wanted everyone gone so they could concubine G7. The food was lovely and service in the restaurants was good.Reception were incompetent and didn’t go out of there way to help. There was a lot of building work going on and noise and disruption.Shame because it is a beautiful place
