An arts & crafts country lodge in the beautiful Alandian archipelago. The lodge is situated on a peninsula with the Alandian sea on both sides. The farm-house is extended and restored by Hans himself, who is a former carpenter. We have been eager to keep the farmʼs Alandian atmosphere and together with the impact of Jackieʼs English heritage it has become a pleasant cross-over between the local culture and some British influences.

Our stay in Björnhofvda gård was no less than perfect. The manor was stylish in every way, it looks old style but apparently it's brand new. During your stay you can borrow books (mainly Swedish), have cocktails (around 13 euros), enjoy afternoon coffee and cake and even dine (book the dinner in advance). The breakfast included coffee, fresh bread, cooked English breakfast (at least on the day we were there) and the best apple juice we ever tried. After that apple juice I cannot drink the basic ones, they won't taste the same anymore. There was a written note from the owners in our room. The note said that they try to make the locale to be like the one where they would like to spend their holidays. Of course I cannot know what they like but this is how I would like to spend my holidays, for sure!

We stayed at Björnhofvda Gård for two nights (Double Room Deluxe) and could not have been happier about our choice. Built and decorated with utmost sense of style and comfort and passion for beautiful details, Björnhofvda is a perfect place to enjoy life, relax and get inspired. The breakfast (as well as dinner) was delicious and served in a beautiful setting (gluten free diet was not a problem). The premises offer lots of great places to relax, read books and have great discussions. The host couple Hans and Jackie are warm-hearted and make everything run smoothly. Our room was perfect: quiet, comfortable and beautifully decorated. The place has lots of heart and soul - a rare character in hotels and b&b’s. Will definitely come back soon!

We spent a few days over the Midsummer holiday at this delightful place. The owners told us that it started as their family summer house for generations and they started sharing with paying guests a few years ago. They have recently built a purpose built guesthouse with a restaurant and bar, in addition to other accommodation. The atmosphere has remained secluded and intimate, and the surrounding forest and Baltic Sea coastline is beautiful and peaceful. Guesthouse is a good description. We really felt like guests of the owners who manage and work in the house. Everything, from rooms to meals was of high quality. Dinner each evening was table d'hôte and was always very Swedish, very well presented and very good to eat. The wine list was small but every wine had clearly been thoughtfully selected by the owner and for Finland the wines were reasonably priced. We were not particularly demanding guests, but nothing we asked seemed to be too much trouble. Some sandwiches at an unusual time - no problem. Want to borrow a couple of bikes - no problem. Having trouble adjusting the bikes - let me do it. You get the picture. We were also offered transfers from the airport in Mariehamn to the guest house and return. The owner did this job himself, again at a reasonable cost compared to Finnish prices. The attention to detail with everything was really amazing and it was clear that creating and operating this guest house is a labor of love. After dinner on our last evening, conversing with a fellow American and very experience traveler at the next table, we were unanimous "This is a great place", said with feeling. I will be back!

The Lindmark family are the perfect hosts. They personally welcome guests to their exquisite country lodge which is both elegant and rustic at the same time--a mixture of English country living and wild west but most definitely Scandinavian. They also offer gourmet dining with a small but very decent wine list. Short walks on quiet country roads to the seaside are possible, and it's about a 30-km cycle ride from Mariehamn on a well-marked cycle route.
