We got married here in early June & had such a wonderful time. The staff were really nice & very helpful and the contributed to the lovely relaxed atmosphere of the place. We had 100 guests, most of whom stayed in the apartments with 20 or so staying in San Gimignano. The apartments were so beautiful and everyone was extremely impressed with the space that they provided & the amazing value they offered. We stayed in the main villa which everyone loved. While there was generally a member of staff at reception they're wasn't really anyone else around making us really feel like we had the place to ourselves. The weather was wet, except for the wedding day - thankfully - so we didn't get a huge amount of use out of the pool areas, which were looking great. The restaurant at the end of the avenue was very handy for people to pop down to get a bar or pizza and we had our meal the night before the wedding here. I would really recommend the venue for anyone. It is beautiful, relaxed, scenic & full of history. Would love to do it all over again!

We have had a wonderful week here staying in 2Br apartment Arco. Teresa and staff have been exceptionally helpful with advice and recommendations. And then organizing bookings for us as well. We had a wonderful day tour with the recommended driver. The surrounding grounds are quiet and peaceful. A restaurant in walking distance and another 3min drive. 10 min to supermarkets. Thank you Teresa!

An excellent place for those who want to live life in the Tuscan countryside. Accomodations very clean and well decorated. The lake is beautiful and invites for a beautiful walk. Great for weddings too!

It is a beautiful park as you can also see from the pictures but once on location it was very disappointing. There was supposed to be a fence around the pool but there is none. There are some poles around it but children can crawl under them. And the button for the entrance gate is at child height so it didn't feel safe to let your child walk en play around the park. In the playground, the barren grass was so high that children could not play there. Only at the end of our vacation was this mowed. The pool has some loose tiles, was not cleaned much (a lost patch for example was there for over a week). The cottages in themselves are spacious, but all outdated. They should refurbish everything and restock with good pans, cutlery, etc.
Our house was very dirty upon arrival. For example, there were still caked, unwashed pans in the cupboard. Even some crisps in a bowl. Under the beds there were still candy wrappers and napkins from previous guests and in pits of 2 bathrooms there were still hairs. Very dirty.
We stayed here for two weeks and after 1 week we would get a linen change. The new sheets and towels were just put in front of our door and we had to go and change all the beds ourselves. Also very strange, I had never experienced this before. Unfortunately when changing the sheets I saw how gross everything was under and around the beds.
It says on the site that there is a washing machine. There is one only it can only be used during the opening hours of the reception, which is only a few hours a day and some days it is not open at all. And since you don't have a lot of opportunities to to laundry, the machine is fully booked with other guests and rarely usable.

I recently got married at Il Castagno and cannot praise the place enough!

We hired the villa with all the surround cottages for a group of 65 adults plus 4 babies and it was simply fantastic! Chiara was brilliant and could not help out enough.

The grounds and surrounding area are beautiful and there is even a lake onsite.

I recommend Il Castagno for anyone of all ages and it's a perfect wedding venue.

We are already planning our return trip!

We had whole property rented as part of wedding group. Was a nice wedding location. Has 3 pools (one reserved for villa), which includes a kid's pool. Also kids playground (not that great). Kids did love seeing deer each day. Was great having a daily breakfast service - delivered at 8.30am each morning.

Staff very helpful.

Downside: very hot, only fans, no aircon. If in summer, pick apartment carefully. Ground floor apartments typically cooler. We stayed in Cassia - our rooms were not so hot! This was the best apartment for being near pool. Big indoor space and outside courtyard. There is one big bedroom with a double sofa bed and double bed in it - was good for family. Our friends stayed in Guardia (3-bedrooms upstairs). Was hot, small apartment and it really a useable outside space. Had a small third bedroom with single bed in it. Was expensive compared to what you get in Cassia apartment.

Location: 15 mins from San Gimigiano. 10 mins to closest shops (but not great selection at some of these). There is a restaurant at the bottom of the driveway. Ok if you want to go there for dinner. Lunch menu limited. Takeaway pizza difficult - either they don't want to do it (ie on busy nights) or they take so long. Not friendly service there. I'd recommend driving 5 mins up the road to Ristorante Boscotondo - much better food, more selection and friendly service!

We had our wedding in Il Castagno 8 years ago and we returned last week with our little boy. So it was an emotional experience for both of us.
It was both comforting and disconcerting to see that everything was as before, nothing had changed. We were well looked after by Agnes and the lovely caretaker who helped us out on one or two occasions.
I would recommend this venue for a quiet get away - its clean, rustic, quiet, in a beautiful location, 20 minutes from San Gimigango, 40 from Siena. It is not a five star property and it does not pretend to be one, but then i don't think anyone looking at this venue wants a "Four Seasons" style venue. The countryside is simply beautiful, one can travel to a great many places for day trips or simply stay in the grounds and enjoy the pools and kids play area.
My only quibble is that the wi fi is woeful - but for some people that could be an advantage.

We had the absolute pleasure in having our wedding celebrations in il Castagno in September 2013
We rented the villa and 6 of the surrounding dwellings for 5 wonderful days.
Each house had complimentary red and white wine, with information leaflets and a welcome note.
Our first night was a pizza night with 35 guests gatherered in the huntsman cottage. The owner drove past and waved then sent 4 more bottles of wine for our enjoyment.
The reception were brilliant ordering bread and eggs each day, and sorting out any queries for me and my guests.
On my wedding day , they moved a very large and heavy mirror from the villa to the huntsman cottage for me to get ready,
My guests all had a fantastic time in the pool, and enjoying their lovely coffages and the villa. The biggest comment was "we want to stay longer"
It really is the most romantic place to have a wedding, walking around the lake the day before my wedding seeing baby wild boar, and deer, and wonderful scenery was so relaxing.
We all loved it so much we are planning a reunion hopefully next year.
Thank you so much to all at il Castagno, and also Tuscan dreams for making our wedding in the words of our guests "the best wedding ever"

We stayed here for four days for a real Tuscany wedding, this was the venue chosen by the wedding planner and it was just perfect. All the accomodation is within original buildings all with different amenities, some shared kitchens and others had their own patios, all were of a good standard and yes not bang up to date with decor etc, but quite frankly you are supposed to be staying in a typical Tuscan property. The grounds are extensive with a lake, woods, three swimming pools and a play area for the kids, so something fro everybody. The location is handy for exploring this beautiful region and has the added benefit of a reasonably priced restaurant/bar at the bottom of the drive so handy if you wish to sample the local wines. The wedding itself was just superb and the setting just ideal for this sort of celebration.

"All the apartments are very different, with different advantages and disadvantages but they are all well furnished and typically Tuscan. I would say La Caccia has one of the most incredible views and is a good size and layout, it also boasts good access to the pool and has a fabulous, covered terrace and BBQ area. The Villa is incredible, all the rooms are ensuite and are pretty similar in terms of layout and size. La Scuola is very spacious but I wouldn't recommend the terrace for small children, would be fabulous for winter or if you don't like to sit outside."
