#3 of 15 Specialty lodging in Peso Da Regua
The origin of the name "Casa Nª Sra do Carmo" is associated with the its private chapel. Opened in 2014, the house offers a warm and comfortable space, combining a modern style with its still visible history associated with vine growing and the production of the famous Port wine. The "lagares" and the winery are interesting features that will not go unnoticed. The "Casa Nª Sra do Carmo" offers a panoramic view of the Douro valley and of the surrounding mountains with their terraced vineyards. It is certainly a unique place to spend relaxing moments, with tranquility and nature all around us.

Completely relaxing stay at Nuno's historic family home, converted a couple years ago into a wonderful guest house and villa. Nuno and his staff were incredibly attentive, when we arrived he toured the property and really made us feel at home, offering us the room of our choice as we were a last minute booking. Beautiful job on the renovations to preserve the history of the wine production area, the dining room, and the chapel. His accompanying bicycle rental and guiding business (GoOnBike, see separate review) is a must do if you have the desire to add some adventure and exercise to your stay. It was harvest, and he even took us out into his vineyard to experience the bustle of the harvest, taking time to explain everything as we went. The breakfasts were great, ham, cheese, toasts and pastries, tons of fresh fruit (his wife and daughter picked fresh figs one day that we had the next morning that blew our minds). Great pool area with poolside building with very reasonable honour bar (no markup at all?) and kitchen facilities. We ate at 3 of 5 restaurants that Nuno recommended and they were hands down the best meals we had in the Duoro, local places full of local people eating local specialties. Take his advice! He is a wealth of knowledge on the local area and life and is a wonderful person to get to know. Thanks for the great stay! We'll be back!

Nuno was so great! Upon arrival, he was nothing but gracious and accommodating. He showed us all around the property, explaining the history of the house and even started our stay with a taste of his delicious port! What a fantastic start to our 2 night stay there. The property is absolutely beautiful! The views everywhere you look are stunning! The house itself is so nice. Our room was super clean and inviting. The bathroom was quite big and had great water pressure (very clean as well). The view from our room of the vineyards and the setting sun...sigh...I want to go back just thinking about it :-) Amazing! The breakfasts were great as well. We didn't feel like going into Regua for dinner one night so we made pizzas in the eating area near the pool. It was so nice and relaxing. Nuno has literally thought of EVERYTHING!! I am a very detail-oriented person, and I can safely say that there was nothing you could think of that was missing from your stay while there...other than more time ;-) Thank you, Nuno, for being such a fantastic host and letting us stay in such a beautiful place :-) The only thing that I can come up with is location. And I say this as not necessarily being a bad thing really because I purposely booked it based on its location away from Regua. However, there is only one restaurant in the immediate area of the Quinta so once you ate there, you were pretty much out of options other than having to make the drive down to Regua (although there was a small menu at the Quinta that if you asked ahead of time, you could get a pizza & other snacks). Not a huge deal because it's not THAT far way but the drive is a bit daunting during the day (at least for me & I wasn't even the one driving!) so I can't imagine doing it at night. Again, not a deal breaker in any way but simply a head's up. If you don't want to drive or do not have a car, this location may not be the most suitable for you, that's all.

A beautiful place for a trip in Douro. A wonderful renovation work was put into the house, which preserves the winery that was there. The rooms are of a high standard even though we received a small room and lacked space to put 2 suitcases. The dining room is amazingly beautiful with a wooden ceiling made to its beautiful preservation. The breakfast is ok, standart. The owner of the house is very welcome and made us a tour in the house and answer all our qustions. The view from the balcony is breathtaking. Defantly a worth place to stay.

Beautifully renovated house, with a garden, pool and a lot of charm. The host was very helpful and made the short stay effortless and culminated with a nice walk among the vines. Definitely recommended for a peaceful day or two in the Douro.

The house has been beautifully remodeled into a clean-lined, chic hotel, without sacrificing the historical beauty of the home. In the breakfast room, for example, the ceiling retains its large carved oak central feature. We got quite lost trying to get there from Peso da Regua, however; it is up the considerable hill from the town of Regua, in Fontelas village. I suggest emailing for more detailed directions, since our rental car's GPS system could not locate the address. There is ample parking available, since you will need a car here. Nuno recommended a nice restaurant quite near the hotel that shared the beautiful views with the hotel. We stayed only three nights--it was not enough! Staying here made out visit to the Douro truly magical.
