Crazy mix of everything at this hotel but absolutely charming! Quirky but comfortable and utterly unique. Really lovely reception staff and fantastic breakfast. Evening Dining is a little less relaxing as the chef has a curfew of 8.30 despite the outside board saying 'open till late'. Overal an unforgettable location and venue that compels you to promise to return.

We stayed here on the 14th August and I don't think i could have chosen a better place to propose to my girlfriend it was just perfect. The staff were so welcoming when we arrived, the bedroom was clean and comfortable with a spacious bath, the room overlooked the haweswater lake which was gorgeous. The food in the restaurant was... A most comfortable place to stay in a lovely quiet setting. The period decor and rustic feel create an atmosphere that is one of relaxation rather than pretension. The dining room, lounge and bar have magnificent views over the garden, lake and hills and the lounge is a particularly comfortable hotel lounge. We had a lovely room with lake view.... More

I absolutely enjoyed every minute of my one night stay. Fabulous period hotel, magnificent 360 views, nothing but the reservoir and mountains. Lovely gardens with red squirrels visiting whilst you eat in the restaurant. We stayed in a lake view room which shared a balcony with two other rooms and it was breathtaking. The hotel has been restored to its... More

We chose this hotel because of it's location, perfect for walking several Wainwright hills. At £69 for the two of us, including breakfast, my expectations were not particularly high but I was wrong. A stunning, if remote, location, super friendly and efficient staff, comfortable room and fabulous food were just some of the highlights. The art deco hotel has a... More

We booked one night here to break up a journey. Hotel looks lovely from the outside and the location is fabulous. The inside of the hotel is however a little dissapointing, whilst I apreciate they are revamping their rooms there is no excuuse for dirty rooms. The room was dusty, the glass top on the bedside table had something stuck... More

if you want to get away from everything, want peace and quiet in stunning surroundings, this is the perfect place. The staff are fantastic and we were made to feel welcome. The decor is quite Art Deco and works really well. There are a few areas that need some attention, a little tlc with decor and finishes but it does... More

We only stayed one night is this beautiful, old house, but it was perfect. Stunning location, and extremely friendly staff. John - who we assume was a manager/supervisor- was so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble...particularly when it came to our dog. The room was nothing special, basic really but fine for the 2 of us and our dog.... More

My Wife & i visited here 8 years ago for her 40th it was quiet, excellent food, but a little dated with no ensuite rooms but we knew that when we booked. We returned to celebrate our silver wedding last year and found nothing had changed apart from we now had ensuite rooms and the decorating had been dealt with. Now... More
