Four of us visiting at a nearby cattle station decided to spend Friday night at Birdsville, have a few drinks and a meal at the Birdsville Hotel. We overlooked the fact that the tap beer was $9 a glass, the chicken schnitzel was processed meat shaped into a chicken breast and the 'flathead from Adelaide' was definitely not flathead. What we couldn't work out was how they justified the $30 workshirts with the Birdsville Hotel emblem embroidered above the pocket which sold for the pricely sum of $75 and the mens toilets reeked of urine enough to make your eyes burn and 3 of the 4 tap handles were missing. This is supposed to be a famous pub people from overseas and all over Australia come to visit, you think they could afford a cleaner to give the toilets a scrub with some of the profits from the workshirts. We recently stayed 3 nights at the Birdsville Hotel on our Outback Queensland holiday. We loved our stay, from the beautiful comfy room, to great meals with fresh produce, friendly staff and great hospitality! Would definitely recommend anyone to stay at the Birdsville Hotel. We also did a plane flight over the Goyder Lagoon with Arid Air, simply stunning, the best way to see that country.
Two night stay as part of Outback Aussie bus tour. Staff were awesome. Very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean and meals were excellent. The owner provided a tour of the hotel, including many stories in the main bar. very interesting.
We are doing a trip round QLD and wanted to stay at the iconic Birdsville Pub, so booked with Colin who was very helpful. The rooms are simply stunning, beautifully presented, very clean and a super comfortable. The bed was just so, so comfortable we did not want to get out of it. We had a lovely meal and thank you to Sean for your time to chat we very much enjoyed it. Thank you for the lovely stay.
The unit we stayed in at the back of the hotel was roomy and comfortable. The pub meals were great - and some unusual ones (I had Beef Stroganoff and rice one night). The staff were very obliging. Ben the Manager was friendly and helpful. We travelled in our CHR - so knew there was no way we would be able to get to the top of Big Red, so he was willing to ask around to see if someone would include us in their party. As things turned out, we decided to drive out and walk to the top. However, when we were just about to start on the walk up, a young fellow offered to take us up. My brother rang the hotel as I had not picked up my mobile (Optus reception there is better than I have at home) and they passed the message on to me that 'someone' had rung for me - and then checked later that I had been able to get onto whoever it was. …
