Stayed at the grand matlali resort. The breakfast was amazing Rene el capi and his employees Jairo, Jesus, Armando, and margarito did a great job taking care of business. I strongly recommend the stay.
This experience was incredibly mixed in quality. On one hand, the staff was extremely helpful and at times they went the extra mile to help us out in areas where they shouldn't be involved in the first place. We traveled as a family of 3 adults on a somewhat tight budget so we requested 1 room with two beds which we did get but as soon as we entered the room we found out both the door to the toilet/shower and the safe were broken. We called the lobby staff and they said they'll send a technician to help us out, so meanwhile, we went for a meal. After a couple of hours, we learned that the technicians don't have any access to the rooms and we had to stay put until he arrived. That information was not shared with us and the manager acted like we should've known. The tech said that he already reported the door issue before but management was reluctant to do anything about it and now it would take more than 6 hours to properly fix it. It was already getting dark so we requested a room change. The new room had only one bedroom and a sofa, but we were told that it was a temporary solution and the next day we could change back to another room with two beds (probably). The new room had the safe broken as well, but that was a quick fix after calling the lobby again and this time we knew that we had to wait in the room while the tech guy arrived, who did a fantastic job, btw. We were also told that, due to COVID-19 measures, the cleaning staff was not doing the daily room cleaning unless the guest requested it. We did request it but then we learned that no one would approach our room until a few days later. It was not helpful that both the cleaning staff and management had contradictory instructions on the room cleaning rules so we got confused all the time while trying to get 1 extra toilet paper, more drinkable water, or an extra towel for the third adult. The next day we did not request a room change, as we were told that they had no rooms available and due to COVID regulations, the hotel had an occupation limit so most rooms were dirty or not sanitized. We understood it, although for the price we paid we hoped to get two beds instead. Every day we had to make reservations for dinner, however, it was common for the staff to have incomplete or missing reservations delivered from the lobby. But everyone eventually had access to a table even if we had to wait. What was great: The views and pools were very clean, the food was great and the staff very attentive. From the staff I can name: 1. Alejandro (bellboy and in-hotel driver) provided extra help in most of the issues we had. 2. Jorge (waiter) really did the extra mile and was very attentive to our needs, he provided drinkable water for our room when the cleaning staff could not. Notes related to the hotel: - It is on a small mountain far from the beach (10-15 minute drive). - There's a Beach Club from the same Hotel, although it was not available since beaches were closed due to COVID. In a normal situation, the hotel would provide a bus to/from the beach on a daily basis. - Some rooms have been clearly neglected. - There are some pools available ONLY for adults. - We had access to only two restaurants, but usually, there are more. - You have to walk everywhere, but there are cars and small vans to take you from one place to another if needed. I wouldn't recommend this place if you have a physical condition. - Bring extra mosquito repellent.…
We are staying in the mountains at Matali la Cruz.it is so amazingly beautiful here.very quiet and secluded.we have a gorgeous beautiful room with a terrific view.everyone is so cordial.we spend most of our day at the pool/snack bar.activities director Johan is great.our bartender Adriano is just wonderful.the food by chef Gustavo is superb.given this stressful time of covid19.we are in the best place in the world and don't want to go home.thank you for your gracious hospitality.this is our 40th trip to Puerto Vallarta .we love it here.this place is exceptional.well be back again.
My husband and I will definitely return. The resort is beautiful and incredibly relaxing. The staff was even better, everyone seemed happy to be there and very kind. We loved Johan who was fantastic, he held a morning yoga class and taught us about the resort, we also went on a gorgeous hike with him. Rene was also great, very no nonsense about doing his job well. Jorge from the beach club was phenomenal, he was literally there for any request the minute we thought about it and was with a smile the entire time. All in all 10/10!
I visited this hotel for a wedding; I stayed three days and two nights. First of all, you have to know the beach is far from the hotel, there’s a shuttle to drive you to the beach club every hour or so. Although the hotel itself is pretty beautiful (you get a feeling to be in the middle of the jungle), its amenities and rooms are distributed in quite an odd way: everything is about 15 min away from everything else. If you are not able to walk up and down the little roads, I do not recommend you go stay here: the hotel provides a shuttle service inside it, but it is very unpractical. Finally, food and drinks are ok, but not particularly good for the price you are paying.
