We stopped here overnight enroute between Nairobi and the coast with our dog and this is an excellent place to break the journey and avoid driving overnight. Food was great, staff Rachel and Delvan very welcoming and helpful. So great they they’re so accommodating to dogs as well. Rooms are rustic but have hot water and are clean. Note there are 2 pins on Google maps. One says permanently closed, one slightly further back from the road is correct. However it shows that there’s no access from Mombasa road opposite the entrance but there is. We took the route Google maps sent us through the bush for 7km or so and we got to a back gate that we couldn’t access. There’s no sign and you enter through some Other ranch (name begins with an N) so it’s a bit hard to find but just trust the map pin and turn in directly as you are parallel to it on Mombasa road

Our experience staying at Sagala lodge in Dec 2021 was terrible. We're usually easy going but the series of broken toilets, faulty electric showers bringing electrical shocks, barking dogs, missing curtains was a bit too much. Three of our group members had bad food poisoning and others upset stomachs. We fed back to the manager who dismissed our claims and got very aggressive. This bad service may be due to the ongoing court case but is still not acceptable.

Thanks for your review but remember you were budget ppl who complained about everything and all what you wanted was a reduction of price for everything so that you dont write a bad review which is quiet odd for honest travellers, you said out of 28 pax only your two kids got poisoned which looks suspect yet you booked the last minute and we very well informed only one cottage left but not the best and you said it was okay u dont mind but in the morning you made such a fuss we gave you a discount of five thousand shillings and when you asked for more and we refused you said you shall write a bad review

The owner & landowner are currently going to court, apparently following non payment of rent. The result of this meant that we were denied access to the hotel for hours each evening while we negotiated with the landowner. The gate house & access road belong to the landowner. This was not apparent when we booked, and booking.com seem unaware of the situation. So, due to 2 years of no guests due to covid, the lodge is run down. The swimming pool empty. But, the staff were great, the rooms comfortable enough. We had access problems to the surrounding land which should have given us opportunity for birding, but the land owner had erected a barbed wire fence because of the dispute. I hope the situation will be resolved, but, until it does I cannot recommend booking.

Sagala Lodge is 15km away from Voi, directly adjacent to the Ngutuni Reserve, where Ngutuni borders the national park, but Sagala does not. Therefore there is no big wildlife in Sagala. Sagala is a place that has a lot to offer for bird lovers. When we were there, it was extremely dry. When it is green, the lodge must be like a paradise, very beautiful gardens, constantly surrounded by birdsong. The rooms are small 1-bed houses, with bathroom and Hollywood swing outside. Unfortunately without fan or air conditioning. The shower has hot water. The bed very wide and comfortable, everything very clean and well maintained. The staff is very attentive and helpful. A must for bird lovers. Only there were problems with the entrance, because the lodge pays rent and you have to go through the landowner's compound to get to the lodge. Currently there seems to be problems between the new landowners and the lodge, in any case, the landowner's guards make the passage difficult for tourists, which is not very pleasant. But if you made it to the lodge, it is very nice there.

There were birds everywhere in Sagala, in a couple of days we saw 40 species there. A bird enthusiast should rent a house by the bird pool, from the terrace you can watch the pigeons and warblers arriving for a drink while having breakfast. The only thing not so great was the food, it was enough but it was a bit boring continental food.

A very relaxing two-day stay after an exciting and exhausting safari. I was well taken care of with such warm welcoming and hospitable staff. Thank you! David even arranged a flight for lamu and got me the tickets and was later in touch as to how i was doing. His wife took me to the train station in voi! Very warm and caring. Again, thanks!!

This lodge is beautiful and the rooms are very comfortable - located close to Tsavo East like a 15 minute drive. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is quite good as well. We only spent a couple of nights and planned to do a one-day safari. Upon check in they almost over charged us but luckily we checked the price per night. Although the park itself was amazing the guide and vehicle were disappointing - the doors and windows did not work and the guide, although very kind, didnt explain about the park and wildlife during our drive. Although it was 'full-board' and we though all-inclusive, we still had a lot of costs upon check out which we didnt expect and we were not warned about in advance.
