Fabulous accommodation. Something a bit different but certainly the way forward with being eco friendly and environmentally aware.
The communal areas for cooking and eating were first class and spacious. The facilities and equipment were excellent. We arrived with no food but walked a 2 minute walk to the superb Mrs Woolly’s general store and bought some provisions so that we could cook ourselves some dinner.
Bedrooms were private and quiet with exceptional quality bedding and furnishings. Each room has its own outside deck with chairs to relax, ideal at the end of a long day.
There’s a communal granola/yoghurt, bread, tea/coffee breakfast for free, and if we had wanted we could have embarked on cooking something more complex.
There’s a real focus on energy and water sustainability. Room temperature can be remotely adjusted day and night. Shower timer settings can be adjusted - 5 minutes is actually a long time! And for the uninitiated the composting toilets are the cleanest ever and completely odour free and happily ensures everything finds its way to the environment.
Congratulations to the staff for their enthusiasm and friendliness!
Congratulations to the developers, this property is a bold step on the road to sustainability and must be applauded. Others will follow and will imitate, but it’s unlikely that they will be able to recreate the atmosphere and ethos of this unique location off the beaten track with all the best that NZ has to offer on the doorstep!

We stayed in a cabin 2 adults and 2 kids, the cabins were clean and tastefully decorated. As this is an eco resort, water for showers is restricted and the toilets are drop toilets (no flush). The cabins don’t include tea or coffee making facilities as this is all covered at the communal kitchen. The communal areas are beautiful and the grounds are amazing. They offer complimentary continental breakfast which was good but not offered until 7:30. They also provide a voucher for the general store so you can get a real coffee, general store prices are very expensive and there is very limited food choices. The only blip would be the staff, I found them to be unenthusiastic and gave the vibe they didn’t really want to be there particularly at check in and check out. I would recommend this place as an experience but for regular resort and hotel goers remember this is completely different experience.

Kia Ora. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're delighted you enjoyed your time in our stunning location and you appreciated our facilities and sustainability features. A little concerned to read that the experience with the front desk team fell short of expectations on your visit and we also note the comment on the breakfast start times. Please rest assured that we've taken this up with the team and will make sure your feedback is reviewed and actioned. Its aways great to hear what we're doing well but conversely it's incredibly valuable to hear where we can be better. Safe travels & kind regards Keiran

The environment is unparalleled, the service is meticulous and thoughtful, and it attaches great importance to integrity management and is full of sincerity to guests. The overall atmosphere was very friendly and our only regret was that we only chose to stay for one night. I recommend everyone to stay here for at least 2-3 nights. Glenorchy is really beautiful. On the recommendation of the staff, I went for a walk in the surrounding wetlands for an hour in the evening. The beauty and tranquility were really intoxicating. The breakfast ingredients prepared here are very fresh and really fresh! Surprisingly, I also won prizes at a nearby store shopping raffle. All this is the best! I will come again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Camp Glenorchy Eco Retreat. The people who looked after us were welcoming and gave us a tour of the retreat when we arrived. Our pre-ordered BBQ hamper (in named wooden box) was an easy and nutritious way to cook (covered BBQ area) and eat at the picnic tables, outside under the solar PV shelter with a big open roaring fire. The lodge commercial kitchen had plenty of room for our travelling supplies (refrigerators and freezers were quality top of the line). We used the shared bathrooms and found the composting loos clean and fresh, showers with Forest & Bird supported body soaps and shampoos lovely and our bunk room (a bubble of 4) clean, tidy, well designed with thoughtful details like USB power chargers (for the phones) and individual lights on the bunks. I had a wonderful night sleep with the supportive pillow (from Vendella), comfortable quality bedding and complete black out window coverings. We relaxed with a nature movie that night on bean bags in the yoga room and enjoyed conversations with other travelling guests (always the best recommendations on where to go and what to do) in the lounge and dining areas. I can only say wow, to the carefully curated NZ art collection on the walls, the building materials, the exquisite books in the library and natural beautiful landscaping and surroundings. A big thank you to Gabriela who phoned to get us permission to go walking at Paradise in the morning. As kiwis from Nelson we loved it!

Our room was more like a small suite, with 2 rooms and a separate bathroom. The entrance was separated from the other cottages and felt very private. The Bathroom is divided into a shower area, a toilet area and a sink in the main hall which was convenient. Some of the Eco touches are an aerator toilet and times showers. The grounds are st up to be both beautiful and earth friendly and they do that well. The main lodge is very spacious and has a large, well appointed kitchen.

We did not interact much with the staff, and that may have been due to the busy season.

Breakfast is simple but all fresh.

Fantastic place to stay for all. Very cleverly designed, comfortable and rustic accommodation. Off the grid with very warm rooms, timed showers and compost toilets, Fantastic communal areas; large kitchen, dining and lounge areas, plus outdoor fire place to gather over a drink or toast marshmallows. Beautiful views out all windows. Food was excellent, from the continental buffet breakfast to the dinner reheat/bbq options. Our kids had a ball playing with other kids in the big hall and with the board games provided. Friendly hosts keen to share all their design features...
Highly recommend and hope we can go again soon!

We’ve recently finished a stay at Camp Glenorchy while we were in the Queenstown area. We stayed for one night at the eco retreat and ordered a bbq pack and cheese platter.
The food was top notch, delicious and the kitchen facilities were fantastic, everything we needed was available.
The staff were attentive without being intrusive, and more than happy to help customise our stay.
Our children enjoyed the movie theatre while we were able to have a wine and platter in the lounge areas.
The bedrooms and cabin itself were so tastefully done, very comfortable and we enjoyed seeing NZ wool products in the rooms.
We also visited Mrs Woollies General Store to collect some take home gifts and some snacks for the road, well priced and just what we needed.
Our only regret was staying one night, we are already planning our next trip.

Upon arrival I found the staff to be very welcoming and accommodating.there was an English girl and in Nepalese girl who particularly we're excellent.the girl from the polls showed me around the campsite and showed me how to use everything and showed me a little bit of the history of the place. The facilities were accident. They have a laundry area where for $5 which includes laundry detergent you can wash your clothes. They have a drying room if the weather is bad but they also have extendable air hangers out the back of the building. this was a really great place I highly recommend it. Yes it is quite a bit more expensive than a regular powered sites campground. But this really isn't like any other type of campground. Treat yo self 😉

The accommodation is not 5 star luxury but it is excellent. Comfortable cabins with all the basic amenities but fully ecologically designed to reduce waste, use little energy and recycle everything! The rooms have energy saving air-flow systems to maintain a good ambient temperature while bringing in fresh air, the toilet is a composting toilet - no flush, and the shower is a spray mist with a timer to reduce water use. It all works incredibly well. Power is generated on site with a solar panel array and much of the food grown in the gardens. The food was amazing and it is a great location in Glenorchy town allowing you to take walks to the lake, lagoon trail or a multitude of other walks. We also found out it is pet friendly so bring the pooch.

This motel is an interesting, well-appointed and eco-friendly place to stay, especially if you are after something different. The shared cooking facilities are a good idea and the complementary breakfast is simple but high quality. The decor is impressive in its use of recycled materials. The eco-friendly credentials seem genuine as great efforts have been made to make it so. Recommended.

Hi there, and thanks for your enquiry. Glenorchy Journeys offer airport transfers from Queenstown Airport, running this service several times a day, for approx.$45 each if there are three or more people travelling, and $125 for a single passenger. Our team would be very happy to arrange this for you, just let us know when you make your booking and we can organise all the details :-)
