Detailed Reviews
Stayed at this hotel in October 2019, Hotel itself is clean and rooms are quiet nice. The staff at breakfast were very rude, told us we were not allowed to eat breakfast even thou were had paid in advanced. We were told we were only allowed to eat at a certain time as we were in a tour group. We left the tour group that morning but had paid for our breakfast. The woman closed the doors on us and basically threw us out.
The breakfast the previous day was ok nothing fantastic, but enough for a light breakfast. The staff at the bar were also not attentive and making us wait for service while they attended to the locals. Ignoring the tourist. The bed and bathroom were comfortable. The hotel itself is far away from the main tourist areas and hard to get to places re: buses or transport. There is a clog making factory/farm down the road which was lovely.

Good, quiet location outside busy Amsterdam, free parking. Rooms are spacious & comfortable, large bathroom, 100% clean, dated decor. Staff should be trained on being friendly, pleasant and make the customer feel special. Atmosphere is quite rigid, we just made it to breakfast (9:40) as it stops at 10:00. I had been ill overnight so slept in. They were in a rush, closed the door as soon as we left. When I asked for coffees to be brought to the room, I got the comment: "just for this once then" and was told to pay at reception separately - could not be put on the bill. We had another night's stay ... You might think it is a cultural attitude, but we are both bilingual Dutch/English and I am a Dutch national. We did like the friendly African receptionist.

Nice hotel, large rooms, great breakfast, excellent wifi and complimentary laundry for guests. Staff are very nice.
Road works currently blocking main road entry to hotel so recommend you get instructions if driving as back road entry a bit tricky to locate. Once it is explained, it is easy.
I went through website and thought I was booking direct, only to find that I had been redirected to a 3rd party website and paid AUD70 more per night for the room. This was not the staff’s fault but be careful when booking direct through internet. Suggest you use someone like booking.com or telephone property direct. I have decades of experience and still got scammed, fortunately the hotel had my booking, just overpaid. Other than that, enjoyed our stay.

Overall out stay was amazing, I would highly recommend this hotel. Very close to the airport. The members of staff where very helpful with all of our questions and gave us a sheet of paper on how to get into Amsterdam centre, this included maps, time tables and different passes for transport. Even though the hotel is abit out the way the surroundings and views are incredible. Wide variety choice for breakfast.

Good location for us, near Wagener Stadium for Hockey World Cup. Very clean, friendly staff and excellent breakfast. Gym on location and near the National Tennis Centre. About 40 minutes into centre of Amsterdam by bus. You can also rent bikes at hotel

Brilliant hotel if you are to see Amsterdam and you have a car. Its good 25 min from city but it was easy to find parking in centre. It has nice spacipus rooms, and seperate wc. The gym is good and the is a fridge in the room. Great breakfast. They also have a small pub inside. Check out is 11 but in cases you can ask for 12check out. Great staff. Check out prices on various sites as it cary between 140 to 230 euro. We got a good deal via trivago.

I've been staying at this hotel off and on since 1999. It caters to two major type of guests: business travelers going to companies located nearby and tourist groups (largely Chinese). Rooms are all relatively large as well as the bathrooms. Despite high occupany rates the management seem to be investing less and less in the upkeep of the hotel. Towels are getting thin, lamps in some rooms are broken, beddings are also a little worn. Front desk staff are generally nice and helpful. Location is not really convenient to any tourist spots. The bus stop is very close but takes about 30min. to get to downtown Amsterdam. The tram station is about a 10min. walk away and also takes about 30min. to get to central Amsterdam. There is a bar on site but no restaurant, however breakfast is available in the hotel. The closest restaurant for dinner is a very short walk away, but just one choice. Nothing else close by so always better to have someone drive you someplace for dinner. In general an OK choice for basic accomodation in Amstelveen.

Booking process
Having lived in Holland in my teens and having visited the serene borough of Amstelveen briefly at that time, I wanted my first trip to Holland after 14 years to be in this beautiful area.
I had had my eyes on the Grand Hotel for a long time but then managed to get an amazing deal including breakfast via an amazing Turkish hotel reservations company called otel.com.
Communication via email to the hotel to ask general questions was always answered promptly and informatively.
Directions from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
To get to the hotel from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, catch the red Connexion bus number 300 from Schiphol Arrivals to Amstelveen Bus Station and change to bus 170 green bus ( also Connexion ) to the stop Nesserlaan West which is in front of the Grand Hotel Amstelveen. The stops appear on drop down screens located throughout the busses.
I had some business to attend to in Amsterdam City Centre and needed to get rid of my baggage ahead of checkin the same afternoon. Sasja greeted me warmly and put my belongings into safe storage until I came back. The reception area looks very chique and with a tv screen showing the rooms.
The hotel, as well as the public bus services above, offer’s it’s own Schiphol Shuttle and a restaurant called Nice Bistro just 200 yards from the hotel itself.
The room ( 404 )
I had seen photos of the rooms online and they looked nice ; after a long day in Amsterdam I looked forward to getting to my room and relaxing.
On my return, Esther was exceptionally very friendly, first in helping me get my bags and then advising that the whole hotel now offers free wifi ! The room key comes in a Z Card which folds out as a promotional flyer for the hotel and it’s facilities. Very trendy !
Esther then gave me further news that I had one of the brand new refurbished rooms on the 4th floor ; I was delighted but could not have imagined how nice my room would really be. Discreet lighting ensures an ambient feel.
Room 404 has a balcony with table and chairs on a terrace setting. On exiting the lift on floor 4, the brand new smell really captivated me and on opening my room door I was so delighted that I immediately took the photos you see here !
The room was exquisite in it’s décor, fabrics, furnishings ; the attention to detail of presentation immaculate and the storage space for cases ,clothing and shopping more than ample. The fluffy pillow’s guarantee a relaxing sleep and the duvet is very comfy and swish !
The workdesk has Hotel Directory in various languages and a copy of the Amsterdam Journal, Amsterdam’s What’s on Guide.
Another lovely feature of these new “Art” rooms is the mood lighting control which creates hues all around the headboard in a colour of your choice..nifty ! The flatscreen tv shows local channels,MTV,BBC1,BBC2 and a selection of other international tv channels namely US,Russian,French and German.
There is a fridge in the room as well as a safe and the toiletries are by Duke and Lyle….you will never want to bathe any other way !
The bathroom has a shower and bath ; in typical Dutch style the toilet was in a separate room inside the bedroom just as you come in the door of the main bedroom. I think that the hotel is a beautiful representation of Dutch hospitality and feel the “Dutch Touch” would be further enhanced by images of Amsterdam’s traditional houses as opposed to the cheeseboard shown here..but full marks anyway !
Staff Interaction
I must mention the charming service of Rob ; I left my room quite late one day and had missed housekeeping however he ensured the room was turned around and I had a new supply of towels waiting for when I got back..Now that is service.
Special mention to Esther,Sasja,Sabrina,Rob and Niels for superior service where every request was met with a smile and a desire to help.
The beautiful Breakfast room is also staffed by lovely efficient ladies. The staff are all multilingualand speak perfect English.
Breakfast
You can have your eggs cooked to order and there is a buffet choice of eggs, bread, cheese, meats, fruit, spreads, cereals, yoghurts, tea, coffee and juices….you certainly won’t start your day in Amsterdam hungry if you are a guest of the Grand Hotel Amstelveen ! Breakfast can also be delivered to your room for a small fee.
Other
At reception you can be given directions, tourist information, maps as well as discount cards/coupons and a range of magazines to read.
Muslim guests staying in room 404 can point towards the shower room when praying as this is the direction of Qiblah.
Aviation fan’s are in Paradise in this room as,in the early morning and late evening when widebody worldwide departures commence from Schiphol, depending on the runway used, some of these head right past the hotel !
Put simply, when I returned home to Manchester, I was sooooo disappointed with my own bedroom after 2 luxurious days in the Grand Hotel Amstelveen’s room 404. This is is how a hotel should be !
Flawless and Functional,Modern and excellently staffed by professionals
Can’t wait to go back !

Good business hotel that is very convenient to the nearby business locations. The staff is a real delight and more then made up for the well worn room. Great service all around.
Many excellent food options nearby, including a short walk into a quaint city center. Would recommend avoiding the famous Aan De Poel and they are very rude.
