The hotel itself is excellent in respect of location, amenities & the staff who were fantastic, all speaking English. However the rooms lacked both tea/coffee making facilities & a small refrigerator in which to keep cold drinks & the safe had only a key which had to be carried around (rather than a digital type pin input). The breakfasts were fine but sometimes the evening meals were disappointing as choice was limited & the meat was tough & required longer cooking. Went the last week of September & a few days misty with drizzly rain & pool cold, but there was an indoor pool. A hire car is advisable for sightseeing.
Just got back from this place and glad to eat some decent food. The hotel itself is good, room was a twin room with good amenities but lacked a few essentials such as tea/coffee facilities, mini fridge for cold drinks. Once evening meal was over there was nowhere to get a cup of tea, so making one in my room would have been great. Room was very clean and quite spacious, Bathroom was spacious, well stocked with soap, shampoo and towels. Biggest issue for us was dining room, there was no allocated seating and it was a hectic affair trying to find a table which was available. Many tables were cluttered with used crockery. Once seated, we had to go to buffet bar to select our food which was always just warm and never hot, this was both breakfast and dinner, some of the dishes were empty which meant having to wait for them to be refilled and then the food quality was always mediocre and overcooked, the toaster gradually failed and only one toaster for the whole hotel was not good and it only half worked. the staff were okay but not very helpful, I found that we were always waiting for something. In the evening, it took ages to get a drink and sometimes we had finished our meals before the drinks arrived. Overall, the hotel is in a good quiet location , nice swimming pools, sauna and jacuzzi, nice grounds, fantastic views and sunsets, but lacks the real quality of a holiday hotel and missing the few essentials needed to make it complete. Probably would go elsewhere next time.…
It is always great coming back to this special hotel. Location is simply amazing, amenities are very good, staff is friendly, outside pool and surrounding gardens are beautiful. The bed was super comfortable and falling asleep to the sound of the crashing waves is so relaxing. Breakfast buffet is the perfect way to start the day.
The hotel is in the shadow of a cliff - and has fantastic views. It is rated as 3 star - too cold (In May) to swim in the outdoor pool - but the indoor one is fine and jacuzzi lovely and warm. A swim and bubbles is just what you need after a day walking etc. The best part is leaving the door onto the balcony open at night and listen to the waves crashing on the beach 50 metres away. It should be remembered that the north coast is wetter than the south - sunshine can’t be guaranteed. Nevertheless it was sunny here when Porto Moniz was under cloud. Easy walk into Sao Vicente and lots of nearby eateries. The breakfast was good and for €15 per head, dinner was good.
Stayed for one night when touring the north coast. At the foot of huge cliffs, the hotel location is spectacular. Enjoyed watching and listening to huge waves crashing on the shore below the hotel. The indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi were lovely to relax in after a day of exploring. We needed to ask staff to turn on sauna but the hotel was quiet so perhaps normally on. The outdoor pool looked lovely too. We had a ground floor room with our own patio and it was lovely to walk to the waters edge from the room. Decent buffet dinner and breakfast for price paid. Walked 10 minutes along to some shops and bars and enjoyed a drink. I think you would need a car to stay here to get out and see the area. Friendly staff
