My stay in this hotel was just incredible! It was very interesting to experience this traditional japanese Ryokan. I also need to emphasize how amazingly hospitable all of the staff was! I would 100% recommend to stay at Natenen! It is also a very convinient place to stay if you want to go to Koyasan - a day trip from... More

To break up our trip a little and to experience a ryokan, we found Nanten-en online and decided to book it. It is a very convenient walk from the railway station and the staff were well versed in English. The grounds were absolutely lovely and the rooms were great too. Dinner was served in the room at the time alloted... More

We stayed 1 night at the start of Sakura season. After about 1.5 hour of travelling from Osaka station and walking downhill 3 mins to the ryokan, we were warmly greeted by the ryokan staff. A young man with very good English took us to our rooms and gave a comprehensive overview of the facilities and was most helpful with... More

Please experience this type of traditional Japanese ryokan guesthouse. Set in beautiful gardens you are met at the door by almost all the staff. They take your shoes and you wear slippers throughout the hotel. We had breakfast and dinner which were both freshly made and delicious - and totally Japanese so don't expect anything western at all. The rooms... More

My wife and I usually stay 1 night at a ryokan per trip to Japan to pamper ourselves with onsen and kaiseki dinner. We chose Nanten-en on basis of its easy accessibility from Osaka via train. Location: Excellent. Nanten-en is 70m (Google map said so) from the Amami train station along the Nankai-Koya line. It's clearly sign-posted from the train... More

A wonderful ryokan. The rooms were really nice and beautiful. 2 futon beds easily fit in there and were quite comfortable. We were served a welcome tea when we arrived and there was more tea on the table (2 kinds) for us to brew ourselves. The onsen was delightful and open almost 24h a day (with a brief cleaning break... The ryokan is very beautiful, extremely clean and serves excellent dishes. We stayed there in late November so autumn was amazing. The staff spoke very minimal English but they were very helpful and kind.

Greeted on arrival, taken on tour of facilities. Staff spoke English and always very helpful. Room spacious and clean with sitting area overlooking small garden. If on set menu, dinner served in room, breakfast in dining room - plenty of food, of good quality. Futons probably the most comfortable of trip with two types of pillows, for those who don't... Nanten-en is a historic inn in a scenic rural valley, traditional Japanese tatami mat ryokan style accomodation. The graceful owner lived in Edinburgh and speaks excellent English. The inn is surrounded by beautiful gardens, there is a comfortable lounge, a good HOT ofuro springwater bath and there are some nice nearby walks. Nanten-en is just 100 meters from Amami station... I would strongly recommend this for those who want to see some countryside, experience a traditional japanese ryokan and onsen all in one go. Getting here is easy - you take the train an hour or so out of the city... and the guest house is located just 50 metres or so from the train station, so very easy to... More
