I've done a fair bit of traveling over the past ~6 years and I can say, without a doubt, that this was the best hostel I have ever stayed at! Although quite a long walk into the hills of Yufuin, everything about this hostel is fabulous. That walk I was talking about? Gorgeous. The town of Yufu itself is so-so, but the country side is incredible. Ryo and Tomo, the husband and wife owners of the hostel, have developed an environment of a family welcoming you into their home (which they are). The small onsen is a great refresher from a morning hiking Yufu Dakke, and if one wants a more luxurious onsen, there are plenty just down the road. I honestly cannot say enough good about this place and the owners. I will 100% be coming back to this hostel my next time traveling through Kyushu. …
I loved my stay here. The hosts are very welcoming. I joined a nightly fireflies tour right after my arrival, which was nice. Only drawback: it's far from the station and centre, so make sure you do anything you need to do there before getting into a taxi. However I did walk it later on(without heavy backpack and it's certainly doable). Food was a blend of Japanese style and western food but I liked it. Their 'country roads' farewell song for every guest is so sweet. I hiked to Yufu-dake from here. If you use the description of lonely planet hiking in Japan, be aware that the way down is not used by Japanese hikers and thus very deserted. I came across a poisonous mamushi snake during this hike ( a Japanese hiker than killed it), but apart from that it s a nice hike and the views from the top are amazing. Not too difficult. If you use the LP path down, you arrive right next to the communal onsen, (and a 7/11) which is worth a dip. You pay in the honesty box, it has a very authentic feel to it. Also tried some commercial onsen, some have a (bit of a) mountain view. I found the indoor onsen in the hostel quite nice as well.…
nice place to stay and very nice service But far from station you cant walk to there becuz It's high and at night,it's dark In side hostel has onsen is very good. In living room is nice view. Let 's stay there, you wont disappoint
The owners of this lovely youth hostel are vibrant and fun. They took me on a walking tour at night of the area around the youth hostel and we saw a shooting star and you can see jupiter on a clear night! The food was delicious, a mix of japanese and western food to please all. You can tell alot of love is put into the cooking! The onsen is natural not simply a bath and a lovely way to top off a big day. The hostel is a little out of the way, but the view from the dining room is worth it! Thanks for having me - I hope to be back soon :) Michelle
I stayed at this youth hostel by myself for 2 nights. I ordered 2 breakfast and 2 dinner during my stay. The food was okay. I was expecting to eat locally grown or authentic Japanese food, but it was more like western food at every meal. My stomach became a little too much and ended up not able to finish meal. I also didn't like that the host decided where I had to sit. Sometime it made me very uncomfortable that I have to sit in front of a stranger. If I knew that may be I didn't include any meals. The hot spring was not hot enough. It was lukewarm. The public transportation from or to this youth hostel is difficult. You have to be flexible to get few busses that are available. I'm not sure if I use this hostel again.
