3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2014

We stayed at here for one night on 23 November. A family of 4 with a young child.

Yufuin is a small town with basically one main street leading to the lake. Lots of cute shops selling handmade items, artisanal snacks and jams and some cosy cafes.

The highlight of this ryokan is definitely the food - 8-course kaiseki dinner and breakfast.
Visually stunning presentation, fresh and delicious produce - definitely a real feast for the senses. Well worth the price of dinner.

The room itself was clean and comfortable but a little dated. We had a room on the first floor that could accommodate our family of 4. No view from the room and facing the bathhouses.

The onsen (hot spring bath) was clean and well maintained but had no view to speak of. There is also no private bathhouse for a family or couple that you can reserve, just separate ladies and men's baths.
The baths were never crowded even though it was a long holiday weekend in Japan, so that...

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2009

Stayed for one night with younger sister.
Room was on 2nd floor, facing the Yufu mountain (Yufudake).

little out of the way from the main streets; 20 minute walk from the yufu station.
walk is pleasant in late summer with the rice fields so green all around you.
The ginrin lake (ginrinko) is about 10 to 15 minutes walk; good exercise in early morning before breakfast.

Excellent. Super clean; love the futons; love the view(the yufu mountain right in front of you); spacious and quiet.
tea-making set cute. bath related amenities perfectly adequate
shower facilities are there also but who needs it if you're going to use the onsen?

THIS. IS. RYOKAAAAAAAN!!!!!!!!! (say it like the spartans in the movie 300)
Of COURSE it's great, and really friendly. The okamisang is gracious, and the nakkaisang adorable.

Food (kaiseki and breakfast)
This is the highlight of this place.
Best Japanese...
