We found this interesting looking Shikibu Ryokan/Hotel on the Japanese Rakuten hotel website. It sits all by itself on a rocky coastline a few kilometers east of Miyazu and looks like a green thermos/vacuum flask and sits like a pimple on a pumpkin overlooking the sea. We were travelling by car so access was easy and parking just outside. Although no real English was spoken we had no troubles at all and the family running the hotel were very friendly. We ate in a large restaurant/cafe/road house overlooking the sea. The room was downstairs and pie shaped because of the unusual building shape. The room was large and had enormous picture windows overlooking the rocks and the Japan Sea and although the weather was dull it was still quite spectacular. With the sound of the waves gently lapping the shore we slept like babies that night. Not the "wake up and scream every hour" baby sleep but more the "untroubled" type.
