Stayed one night to be close to the cruise terminal where we were to embark for a cruise around southern Japan. The hotel is very comfortable, and we asked for a water view, which was lovely. The staff were very friendly, and even though their English was limited, they could not be more helpful. The restaurant is not open for dinner, but we had a beautiful meal for lunch. There is a supermarket behind the hotel for supplies.

Stayed during a work assignment. The room I stayed in was very good size with a full bathroom including tub. Breakfast buffet is good with a variety of choices. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel could use updating some of the carpets and furniture are worn. There is a supermarket next to the hotel and several restaurants in walking distance. The hotel restaurant is only open for breakfast and lunch. They use to serve dinner but while I was there the restaurant was not open for dinner.

Stayed for a week in the Mare Takata. This hotel is definitely a step up from the standard business hotel. It's located on the bay of Maizuru and my room had a great view of the seafront and ferry terminal. The room was very spacious for Japan. The buffet breakfast was excellent, lots of variety and served in the restaurant which has a sea view. There is a supermarket around the back of the hotel, the town centre is a few minutes on foot and the train station about a 15 minute walk away.

Been here twice, great views of the harbor! Rooms where well maintained and the service was good. A bit of a language barrier if you don't speak Japanese but we were in Japan after all. A good choice for the traveler and close to the Navy Base if you happen to be heading there. Yes the jacuzzi tubs are great!

I've been coming to Hotel Mare Takata for almost 10 years - that's how much I enjoy it. The rooms are very well fitted out, with views over the harbour, or the mountains, the beds are comfortable, and the bathrooms are big, by Japanese standards. For the little bit extra, it's worth taking a Deluxe room. All amenities are included in the tariff - toothpaste, tooth brushes, hair brushes, bath sponges, bubble bath, pyjamas, room slippers. My only criticism would be that the rooms are starting to look a little tired, and need a little bit of money spent on partial refurbishing. The restaurant on the hotel Reception level provides an excellent range of fresh Japanese, and Chinese food for lunch and dinner, and a western and Japanese buffet breakfast. Hotel Mare also has a large Function Room that can cater for weddings, and other group meetings, or conventions. There are several beaches for swimming, and fishing, within 10 to 20 minutes drive, and an interesting museum where the Japanese were repatriated sat the end of WW2, that is a "must see", if you're in the area. Amanohashidate - one of Japan's most famous scenic spots - is roughly 30 minutes away, by cart, and Tottori, with its desert landscape, another 20 minutes further on.
