We provide condominium style accommodations, you can stay only for one night, a week, or we encourage to stay longer, like living this place instead of just "come & go". All rooms faced to south and ocean view, with mini kitchen. We want to provide you the experience of living here, this TOSA SHIMIZU village and enjoy the feeling of Japanese village. "Environment-friendly also human-friendly facility" is our policy. We value the power of nature, trying not to rely on the artificial convenience, and live "with" the nature as much as possible. We love fresh clean air here, so all are smoking free space. We want to enjoy the seasonal wind, cold and warm, so put some ideas when we make our facilities in order not to rely on air conditioning. Tae and her husband Mitsu, have created something very special at Kaiyu. It is not easy to define, as it transcends regular commercial accommodation, perhaps it is a unique alternative; an ecological and social vision of living harmony. At its heart is the genuine warmth of their welcome, the personal touch in every aspect of the interiors and Tae’s astoundingly good cooking. We came on after a month’s work in Kyoto and found the instant sense of peace and informal belonging immediate and overwhelming. Ohkinohama beach lies spread out just below the balconies of the rooms. Good surf and sea turtles abound. Kaiyu’s building is a large sea facing concrete apartment block over six floors set on a low cliff. Only a number of rooms are for rent so that numbers are kept low and the community nature of the enterprise is maintained, although it is very popular during the Japanese holiday periods of one week in August and September. The Ashizuri coast that edges the cape on which Kaiyu sits is magical. The famous Tojindaba Temple was a memorable visit, as was the Dragons tail peninsular. There are great coastal walks and if you are interested there are bikes to hire or snorkelling that Mitsu organise - his great passion! The Onsen is superb and can be used either by separate genders or privately for a couple/family group. We found that at least three days would be the minimum to truly unwind in this idyllic location with incredibly kind and caring hosts. In fact we deeply regretted having no more time to extend our stay. Slow living, thinking and relaxing. What I would emphasise is that this is a home community you are entering not a standard hotel. The hospitality you receive is that which friends give their guests, immeasurably greater than commercial norms. Equally Kaiyu doesn’t do room service, this is a more profound enterprise than a chain could offer! Please go, you won’t regret it.

Above all, we loved our stay at the Kayu because of the attention and love that Mitsu and Tae shared. They are both truly amazing, kind, helpful and attentive, and our time spent with them and together with the other guests, were one of our most memorable times in Japan. Staying in Kayu means to participate and engage, and this is something that Mitsu tires to emphasise when you book. Expecting a five-start hotel with impeccable and impersonal service will just lead to frustration and disappointment. Having fun, talking about what matters in life, hanging out, eating good food and enjoying the visual feast that Kayu is, and being laid-back about it all, is what staying there is all about. Mitsu's big smile and friendly manner is incredibly welcoming, and he is amazing at bringing people together (meals being the most important arena) and helping the conversation along and including the shy ones with his excellent English. And he manages to keep everyone talking together, and will sprinkle in some great or profound questions to make it personal and meaningful. So much of our time in Japan was spent on our own and with limited contact with the locals, but Kayu was thankfully very different and very personal. And the food is amazing! What a feast every meal turned out to be, even the home-made jam served with breakfast. There was so much variety and everything freshly made. And again, the communal aspect of the meals make them even more enjoyable. And their onsen, heated by a continuously burning firewood oven, is beautiful and very relaxing, and possible to share as a couple if there are few guests or little demand. Sure, not everything is perfect. Running such a huge place is a big task for only two people, but this is also the charm. We ended up staying five nights in the end because it really felt like being on a relaxing holiday and spending time with good friends at the same time (and we went twice to Cape Ashizuri and the temple there because of the special atmosphere). Thank you Tae & Mitsu <3

Our stay at Kaiyu was one of the best experiences we had in Japan. The beach nearby is beautiful and the water was crystal clear. We went snorkeling and surfing and borrowed all the gear from the very helpful host Mitsu at Kaiyu. We stayed for 5 nights in a very beautiful and cosy apartment and felt very much at home. The apartment was clean, tastefully decorated and had everything we needed. The night we arrived, Mitsu and his family welcomed us and they had prepared the most delicious family-dinner. We also had breakfast - lovely, homemade pancakes and the best passionfruitjam. The host was very helpfull finding activities, places to eat, renting us bikes and always made sure that we were having a great time. Everyone felt very much at home thanks the kind and welcoming atmosphere and very sweet, funny and interesting hosts. They also speak very good English. We would recommend anyone to visit this very unique, peaceful and beautiful place.

The Kaju is special and maybe unique in Japan. To it´s adavantages counts the host Mitsu, who has seen the world and has a trustworthy ecological and alternative mindset. The food - served mostly in a family-like situation - is a creative miracle made out of freshest ingedriences. And the location just in front of the subtropical Pacific ocean is just beauftiful. The onsen is one of the best we´ve visited on the whole trip. Unfortunately the main building is quite old and not in the best condition. The rooms - all with phantastic view on the ocean - are out of the 70s, it´s like a time travel. When you expect a modern hotel the Kaju is nothing for you. When you are looking for a time with interesting people in an positevely odd location the Kaju is an unforgetable experience.
