Well located, this ryokan is ideal for experiencing the onsen available in the township, and is a manageable walk from the train station. The staff were very helpful and attentive. Little English was spoken, but this did not prove to be a barrier. The rooms were comfortable, and the shared bathrooms (on-site onsen) and shared toilets weren't an issue. The food served at dinner and breakfast as part of the half-board package was superb - high quality and beautifully presented. The rooms had recently renewed tatami mats and a sink in each room. Plenty of space, and the futon beds were made each evening. Yukatas were supplied to promenade between the onsens, and replaced each day. A very welcoming experience with kind staff which was worth the 2 1/2 hour train trip from Kyoto for a couple of days. More

First experience in a ryokan and couldn't have been better!
The place is clearly not easy to reach, Kinosaki is best reached by direct bus from Osaka (3h), but it only runs like once or twice a day, same from Kobe. However once you get to Kinosaki you can't be disappointed. It's the Japan every traveler is dreaming of: traditional architecture, ryokans and onsens, friendly people walking around in yukata (kind of light kimono used as a bath robe) and a lot of greenery; it's not a hot spring town, it's a full cultural experience.
Tsubakino ryokan is no exception from this picture. The design is traditional but including all modern features such as wifi, electronic toilets etc. The staff is very nice and helpful, the rooms (all of...
