Having stayed at a small and very intimate ryokan in Takayama our first impression was that Mikuniya was very much a hotel. But luckily we were wrong. Everything about Mikuniya is as it should be. It is more than a guest house. But it still retains the guest house or ryokan feeling. The room was incredibly spacious. The hosts from... More

From the time we step into Mikuniya till we check-out, we were greeted with an amazing Japanese hospitality 2nd none. Always wanted that "Japan Hour" experience. From taking the train along the countryside, the Ryokan, the amazing spread of dinner, the yukata, the Onsen, ... The staffs of Mikuniya really indeed made great effort to keep us happy & comfortable.... More

What an absolutely fantastic place to stay. It feels like you are staying in your best friends house. Everything is so comfortable, the staff are so friendly and the food is just magic. We stayed two nights and wish it had been 10! The Mikuniya Ryokan is an experience everyone should have. We stayed with two young children and nothing... More

This Ryokan was nice and you should definitely get the experience while staying in Japan. Kinosaki is a small town and as you'll probably find other accommodations are expensive, which is why we chose this one. It's a decent Ryokan experience, but starting to look a bit well worn and dated. The bathrooms are definitely from the 70s. But, if... More

We had a great time staying here. The breakfast and the dinner were fantastic, the onsen inside the house is perfect to relax and the traditional room is a wonderful experience. The town itself is really pretty with beautiful public onsens. Thank you for a wonderful stay, kind regards, Jenny & Eric

We enjoyed our stay at the Mikuniya. We were greeted by warm staff at the front desk. Women are given a colorful yukata to borrow during their stay and you are given slippers for your stay. Our bags were brought up to our room for us and we were escorted by front desk staff and a women to assist with... More

Kinosaki Onsen town is not a big town hence my friend and I decided to stay near the train station so we need not pull our luggage too far. The ryokan is indeed just 3 minutes from the train station - there was a tourism ambassador at the station to direct tourists in the right direction. The staff were especially... More

Mikuniya ryokan is located on the main road of Kinosaki Onsen, just a couple of hundred metres from the railways station. Check-in is from 3PM but even if I arrived earlier, I was able to drop my luggage there and roam around town. The main road is full of restaurants and eateries. The selection for women's yukata is good, while... More

We stayed 2 nights in the delightful village of Kinosaki Onsen at this excellent ryokan. I have nothing but positive things to say about the ryokan and the village. We selected this ryokan based on the good Tripadvisor reviews and the availability of rooms with private sinks & toilets. I called the owner, Mr. Shigeru Taoka, by Skype a couple... More

We stayed one night at Mikuniya Ryokan after a few weeks exploring Japan. We went specifically there for the reputation of the town, known for its many public onsen. We were very pleased with our stay at the Ryokan. The staff was attentionate, spoke English very well and the room, very traditional, was way above our expectations. We felt privileged... More
