This family run hotel/Bekkan was one of our favourite places to stay in Japan. The mother and son who run it are extremely simpatico and helpful. We opted to stay on the island to see what it's like after most of the tourists have left, and it was magical. The room itself has tatami mats and futons on the floor,... More

Shinko and Teppu are the most fabulous hosts, from the moment we arrived we were welcomed with open arms and made to feel like VIPs. Our Japanese style room although basic was clean and comfortable, I loved waking in the morning and looking out of the window to see the deer sleeping under the trees outside the front of the... I feel so bad giving the rating because the owner is lovely, so friendly and attentive, and the food here is amazing (although not cheap)... But I had a few issues with the room. Firstly, hairs EVERYWHERE, there were at least half a dozen on my bed alone! The pillow is made of beans and not comfortable, and the place... More

We stayed for 2 nights here in a western style room. The room I would rate as average as it was small, twin beds and tired-looking. I think we made a mistake when booking as we had in mind we were staying in a Japanese style room which look much nicer, but never mind. The staff (mother and son team)... More

A very welcoming hostess who does everything to make you feel at home. The room was fantastic very spacious, in fact ,we had two rooms so our futons didn't need to be made nightly. The rooms were light and airy with a great view. Mealtime was fun as all of the quest sit and chat. The food and service was... More

We stayed here for two nights in June 2016 and had a brilliant time. We stayed in a Japanese style room with tatami mats and futons. The room was spacious, light and comfortable and had everything we needed. We are in the ryokan on both evenings while we were there and the food was outstanding- possibly the best we had... More

First off, the hotel is a 30 second walk from the ferry terminal, straight ahead. Very convenient! We were greeted in such an accommodating and hospitable way; my wife and I felt instantly welcome. Our reservation did not include meals however we had them added on which was definitely the right thing to do. Dinner: delicious, and my wife was... More

This was by far our best stay in Japan. The hospitality and the food was the best we encountered anywhere during our three week trip. The owner, Shinko, and her son (I think) were so welcoming, as well as informative and accommodating when it came to the food, and you really, REALLY must include breakfast - go Japanese - and... Don't be put off by the outside of the building. Once inside it is tranquil and perfect for a stay on the island. Shinko, owner, is delightful. Our room was 'two rooms' - sitting and sleeping. Although sleeping area looked out at a tree we could see the harbour from the sitting area. Bathroom was tiny but not an issue.... More

Every review here mentions the friendly welcome from Shinko. She made us feel so welcome and was absolutely charming throughout. Both Shinko and her son speak great English and are very helpful. The rooms are tatami style, a good size and spotlessly clean. Ours had a lovely view from the front of the hotel. I'd highly recommend eating here. The... More
