We loved the location of this ryokan, the owners were fantastic and went out of their way to make you feel at home. The rooms had great views and the food delicious. Made us all feel relaxed and we did not want to leave

Early December last year, we stayed at Auberge Watanabe, for 2 nights. Our meticulous room was at the back, with a view of a little stream and the beautiful fall color which could still be enjoyed at that time, we had the most memorable stay. As we casually mentioned about our wedding anniversary that fell on the very day of... More

This was a fantastic ryokan. The only one we stayed at in Japan, but fantastic. We had a room overlooking the stream in back. So peaceful. The room was huge with multiple little rooms. Exactly what I wanted out of a traditional Japanese Inn. Everyone was incredibly accommodating and friendly. The pick-up and drop off service was a nice touch... More

I picked this guesthouse upon the recommendation of my friend who had stayed previously. The reviews on TA were also excellent. We booked a night in their smallest Rikyu room for 18,900JPY per person inclusive of breakfast and dinner. When we reached the ferry terminal at Miyajima, we were instructed to approach the tourist information counter to contact the inn... More

Staying at the Watanabe was the highlight of our fantastic trip around Japan. It is a truly wonderful place to stay and I cannot recommend it enough . Thank goodness we stayed 2 nights there - I wish we had planned to stay for 3 ! The Inn itself is in a beautiful position - so quiet and peaceful with... More

After 22 days of heavy touring, we ended up in the Watanabe Inn, on Miyajima. Firstly the island was a really lovely break from the shrines, temples and gardens, but additionally, the Watanabe Inn was by far the best hotel (ryokan) that we stayed in (I have not bothered to review the rest). It only has 4 guest rooms, and... More

This was our first ryokan stay, and it was a joy from start to finish. The food was amazing, the hosts super friendly. They drove us back to the ferry on our last day and waved us off. It was my daughter's favourite stay in the whole of our Japan stay. The room was clean and comfortable, and it was... More

My wife and I visited Miyajima in March 2016 during our honeymoon and truly enjoyed our stay in this lovely family-run ryokan. Our room was beautiful, with a lovely view, tatami and traditional futon beds as well as a fantastic cedar bathtub. The host and hostess are absolutely delightful - We were greeted with a cup of warm tea and... More

Family run small ryokan. We stayed here one night with two teenagers (should have stayed longer!). Wonderful hospitality. Large tatami style room with great bath. Eight course dinner was fabulous --if you have food issues you can let them know in advance. Highly recommend would definitely stay here again.
