There aren't that many choices when you travel to Omi-shima. Our family ended up picking this not-too-pricey one. Before we arrived, we prepared ourselves mentally for a youth-hostel-like sleeping bed. Sharing toilets and bathrooms is fine with us. That's it. You simply have to remember bringing your hair conditioner, shampoo and soap. And towel, please. The only mistake is that we forgot to bring our earplugs, and my daughter woke up at least five times in the middle of the night (when the traffic is easily audible). Kabooooom!

This place is okay. What was good was that the beds and rooms were comfortable and it wasn't too expensive. But that is it. I was kind of hoping for the typical friendly Japanese atmosphere that I came expect when travelling around the country but here this was not really the case. I arrived around 16:30/45. It did say on the booking info that check-in begins at 17:00 but I wasn't expecting to be literally turned away before that time. I had just cycled all day for around 35kms and would've appreciated somewhere to rest. I got the front door and the street and was told to come back at 17:00. I used the time to visit the nearby shrine, which I'm really glad I did and came back and promptly checked-in. The staff there were quite official and formal. Not the warm welcome I had come to expect at such places. I did not even visit the café and instead used the info from my previous hostel to find a good restaurant nearby for dinner. It does the job as a place to sleep and rest but no more than that.
