The Budo No Oka is a hilltop hotel that appears (in my opinion) to have been built mostly for groups and functions. The location at large offers good views over the surrounding lush countryside.

Service at the hotel was friendly. It should be noted that very little English is spoken (amounts to certain words only). Staff was helpful, and English speaking assistance was offered through FaceTime, a practical way to solve a rural problem which we did not mind at all.

The rooms face mostly east and south-east, that is to say towards the surrounding hills (not the urban spread of nearby Kofu). We stayed a night each in a Japanese and a Western room. These were both fine, nothing extraordinary, and offering a definite retro experience. Both rooms were of ample size, and cleanliness could not be faulted. The beds in the Western rooms are rather firm, but this is quite typical in Japan. Something one should note if not used to these. The Japanese room features futons...

We stayed here for one night while visiting the wine cave and having lunch with friends. Our rookm was a quite large western twin, with japanese style bath. Nice view out to the surrounding hills. Restaurant is good quality and the indoor / outdoor onsen has views as well. It seemed to be a very popular place.

If you happen to be coming via Narita there is a limousine bus from there to a stop within 20 mins walk of the Hotel. But it is a hilly walk.
