We loved our stay at Akakura Kanko Hotel. It was expensive for us to stay, as we were there during peak time but the location of ski in/out is fantastic. We couldn't fault anything in the hotel- the room, facilities or service from staff. The on site bakery was a nice novelty after a day skiing. If you have the... More

Our first hotel outside Tokyo. We booked late so did not have all the selection one might have wanted. we arrived at the train station on an earlier train. We called the hotel as they said they would pick us up. But because we came earlier we should take a taxi 'they were to busy'! The room was modern with... More

What a fantastic hotel. Nothing to complain. The staff were wonderful helping in every way, polite, helpful, charming. Food was delicious. Loved the onsen which was so relaxing you didnt need a massage. Book early if you want to stay on a weekend. No need to have a shower in your room as the onsen was perfect. Loved the ski/ski... This is the second time we have stayed at the Akakura Kanko, both times it has been an absolute pleasure. The staff are brilliant, the hotel imaculate, unpretentious and a true joy to stay in. I can't say enough good things about this hotel. Be warned though, it is expensive. However for the ski in/ski out convenience and the pleasure... More

We got there late, arrived at around 8pm, but the restaurant waited us for dinner. The Wagyu Shabu Shabu was delicious, and the room was cozy and nice. They gave us Clarins set for the amenities. The next morning we woke up with this breath taking view from the room, we stayed at the Open-air Onsen room type B, it... More

the hotel is not cheap but you get what you pay for. Ski in and out doesnt get any better. Service is outstanding, food is marvelous. cant fault anything. Public and private bath comes with volcanic mineral water. Had a really good and pleasant stay here Will come back.

I loved my stay here and will definitely try and make my way back! Stayed 3 nights and was impressed by the refurbished 5 star level of rooms. The hotel has some history and has retained a sense of that in its wooden floors and small lift in the reception area but all its facilities have been upgraded without compromising... More

This was recommended to me as the only ski in - ski out place in myoko with a bit of luxury. I believe that is right. There are other hotels at the very bottom of the mountain near the resort center which is several steps across the street so that may be an option for saving some money. First I... More

I honestly can't believe this is not ranked as the top hotel in the Myoko region. I believe it is. I stayed at the new wing with super modern and cozy rooms (been here a few times, all around late Feb/early Mar, in 2009/2010/2011), and the built in private onsen on the balcony is just stunning -- perfect to sooth... The good points: 1.Fantastic view from my room. 2.Good food (but very pricey). 3.Great Onsen, well maintained and impeccably clean. Fantastic views too. Areas for improvement: 1.Few of the key staff that should speak reasonable English (front desk), actually do. Tough, therefore,to make simple arrangements in a straight forward way. 2.The gym is very small and lacks the basic facilities... More
