This hotel preserves many of the traditional features of an old style ryokan (inn) but combines them with modern facilities such as the in room toilet and bathroom. It is well layed out around a beautiful internal garden, and the building design incorporates many display areas for antique traditional furniture and artworks. The meals are delicious and presented in true... More

We stayed here as part of a tour. 40 years since I'd last stayed in a ryokan and the futon seemed a lot less comfortable, and getting up from it a lot more effort, but such are the effects of age. Our room was spacious, with a Western style sitting area. Tea was provided and the bathroom was immaculate. We... More

Clean and spacious room, nice tea and snacks served in room. Onsen is wonderful, especially it was in the best timing of first snow in the a year, semi-outdoor style, hot spring with below zero degree temperature outside. Perfect! Standard Kaiseiki type breakfast, average taste.

This is a small and quaint hotel with a beautiful full sized room with a private bath and you sleep on a futon on a tatami mat for the true Japanese adventure. There is a wonderful communal bath for ladies and a separate one for men. This too gave you a true Japanese experience. The meal was total Japanese style.... More

I was excited to experience the tradition of the Onsen - Japanese baths - and the ryokan with traditional Japanese rooms - and I wasn't disappointed. I was surprised however to see how big the place is. Somehow I was expecting a small, quaint, country inn. No matter, the gardens were beautiful, the baths were peaceful and comforting and the... Destination chosen by tour company but did not feel like I was in a tourist hotel. There were other small groups but they were all Japanese. The whole experience (kimono, dinner, and bath) was a wonderful taste of Japanese tradition.

Stayed here as part of tour group operation. It's full-Japanese style: shoes off, sleep on tatami mats, take part in Japanese public baths (though there are private baths in each room), excellent food. What's not to like!

My brother and sister in-law recently complemented their Western wedding with a traditional Shinto Wedding at the Suwa Shrine. Ryokan Nunohan facilitated all other aspects of the wedding from Kimono dressings to >25 courses of amazing Japanese cuisine over lunch, dinner and breakfast. The traditional tatami mat rooms were wonderful and extremely spacious, and well catered. The onsen was liberally... More

chosen by the tour group I was with. Very pleased with the whole experience. Had directions on how to take the Japanese bath and so I glad I was one of the ones to take advantage of it. Lovely hot water with choice of inside or a walled garden outside. Beautiful at night. Went to their beautiful dinner with our... More
