This is a truly stunning converted monastery with breathtaking views that is a gem yet to be utilised. Rooms are week furnished but lack a/c and modern comforts expected. The few staff seem out of their depth in a quasi abandoned structure. It definitely needs more investment at which point I would definitely return. ... But not until that happens

An exciting mountain pass drive rewards you with spectacular views down to the coast from this beautifully restored old monastery. Sadly the restoration did not take the comfort needs of guest into much account. The spartan room was spacious but no TV, no WiFi, no phone, no A/C and a small window with a broken bug-screen for ventilation. The bed provided an authentic monastic experience in firmness. The staff are friendly and very willing to be helpful but seem to lack experience and organization. The breakfast was very good serving local preserves in a pleasant room overlooking the beautiful view.

This huge property sits above Avola and has far, far reaching views which will be pointed out by the two extremely helpful women who greet guests on their arrival. The pride in the building, a skillfully restored old convent/monastery complete with chapel, is evident in every word and gesture. The staff exude warmth, hospitality and genuine love for what they are doing so no meal or service is without a smile! The food is simply prepared but ample and delicious! Starters, a pasta, a meat or fish and then a dessert can also include an amuse bouche and more treats at the end! Limoncello is also offered after the meal!

We enjoyed our stay here very much. The room and ensuite were comfortable and clean, and ours had a marvellous view down to Avola and the sea. The breakfasts were good with good croissants and preserves and the usual cooked meats and cheese. On one day there were delicious little pastries as well. The staff were very helpful, informative and professional. Be warned though. The hotel information says that there is a restaurant but out of season this is not so. As the Erema is high up overlooking Avola the road to it from the Autostrada is quite an adventure, 4 km. of hairpin bends which , and as you need to go down to town to eat, it is a bit unnerving in the dark early or late in the year, particularly in heavy rain!

We took a tour of Sicily and I'm glad now that this was only our second lodging of the visit as it turned out to be fairly disappointing. We managed without TV (lovely) and AC (harder in the second bedroom which had to be kept closed as there wasn't a mosquito net on the window.) The approach was fairly difficult up hairpin bends and took some getting used to, however, the worst aspect of this stay was that we felt incidental to the events which are staged in the evenings, this felt not so much like a hotel but a cultural showpiece with a few beds thrown in on the side. There was no drink or food available at any time during our three night stay apart from the breakfast provided. Good points were the building itself, Antonella who checks visitors in and the bathrooms. I would also agree with a previous reviewer who disliked the guided tours late at night, it is quite disconcerting to be woken by groups of people outside your room making quite a lot of noise. On the website the pizzeria is said to be the jewel in the crown, however, we saw no evidence that this is ever open for business, eating was a difficult thing to achieve!
