A truely Japanese wonderful treat with the sweetest of hospitality and total attention to detail in every respect--so calm and serene The onsen was a sheer delight---natural hot healing water such a healing way to warm the body Many thanks for everything

I have been twice to this traditional Japanese inn (ryokan). Honestly it is better than a 5 star hotel. We were first greeted and taken to a 'welcoming room' where we received hot tea and some sweets. They even cleaned our luggage wheels... Not only is the room huge by Western standards, there are multiple rooms as well as fabulous... More

My first impression when I arrived in this Ryokan is a warm friendly Japanese hospitality. When you arrive here, you know you are in a good hand. Everything is taken care of. Its also very peaceful and quiet. The hotel really respect the guests. The onsen in this Ryokan is very nice also. In the outdoor onsen they put flower... More

In peaceful Hidafurukawa, this ryokan holds all promises of a high-end yet very traditional inn. The suite with private onsen was huge, spacy and relaxing, the food was great and the services professional and warm.

Away from the touristy Takayama but in a very charming and worth seeing Hidafurukawa town, Yatsusankan offers many of the great things you expect from a high end Ryokan: a beautiful room, perfect service, a very calm setting where you will be able to rest. Two small things that keep it from full marks: the rotenburo (outside bath/hot spring) is... More

This is a beautiful traditional ryokan set in the small town of Hida (an approximate 20 minute train ride from Takayama). We stayed in a large room with its own private onsen which looked out over a little garden. The room itself was lovely, traditional but with modern touches (ours had a western bed). The service was impeccable, the staff... More

The Ryokan is what a classic countryside Ryokan should be: located in a small town with a view to a shrine, the Ryokan has the look-and-feel you expect it to have. Service is very good, and so is the in-house dining which is served in charming little private dining rooms with a pleasing view to the back garden. Cons: its... More

Quiet, charming, transcendent Excellent cuisine, service and facilities A lovely mountain getaway with all of the subtle details that the Japanese do so well. Kaiseki featured blowfish, abalone, hida beef and other earthly delights. A feast for the eyes and belly

Everything was amazing - food, staff, lodging, amenities - everything. Staff went well out of their way to make sure everything went smoothly and that the experience was authentic and memorable. Attention to detail was phenomenal. The town of Hida Furukawa itself was quaint and picturesque. Extra bonus was having two local award winning sake breweries!

Beautiful room. The suite had a large, 10-tatami mat sleeping room with separate sitting and dressing areas. The en suite bathroom was very clean. The sencha tea in the room was high quality, loose leaf tea. The kaiseki dinners and breakfasts were delicious. If you do not eat beef, tell the staff in advance as beef is a regional specialty...
