Hotel Club Royal Saly is located at the heart of Saly Portudal near all commodities. A huge place of 16 African bungalows containing two types of rooms fit for family et individual stays, a big garden full of coconut trees and baobabs. It has a big swimming pool near the beach with sun beds, a big restaurant, a bar and three conference rooms. Kids have their playground, their mini club and their swimming pool in it. It's a nice place for rest and entertainment.

Hotel Royal Saly provided the perfect ending to our tour of Senegal. The grounds are breathtaking, quiet and relaxing. The stay included 3 meals per day, I have never encountered this in any other hotel. The restaurant comes alive at night with music and dancing, love it. Great staff, great service.

We stayed at the hotel for 9 nights with our two young children and some friends who also had their kids with them. We found it a real mix - the setting was really beautiful - gorgeous beach, lovely pool and nice looking huts to stay in, but there were lots of annoying problems throughout the holiday. Firstly, the food looked pretty decent - but it tasted fairly average unfortunately. As the hotel is all inclusive, this left us feeling like we were a bit stuck for dinner (although we ended up going to another hotel to eat a couple of times for a bit of variation). The puddings in particular weren't great - they looked awesome, but often just didn't taste of very much. Secondly, dinner is from 8-10pm. Maybe this is fine for many guests from the Mediterranean, but it was really late for our kids (who are normally in bed by 8) and there was no flexibility offered and no way of ordering dinner early from the restaurant or something. That left us with ratty kids getting tired and staying up late, or going to bed hungry. Another annoyance was the very loud music being pumped out by the pool. The clientele when we were there were hardly 18-30 party animals - almost everyone either had kids or were in the older age bracket, so it didn't seem to fit and ruined the general feeling of peace on the beach and down by the sea. The loud music continued into the night with raucous drum performances every few nights and loud music and singing on others. That started at 10pm and went on for a couple of hours most nights, keeping us and the kids up even later. For families I would recommend asking to stay further away from the restaurant so this would be less of an issue. Also, although there weren't many mosquitoes visibly around, even in the evenings, we got bitten to death at night. There were no mosquito nets over the beds and I assume that they were getting in through the thatched roof as we weren't able to track them down and get rid of them. My little one got 50 bites over a couple of nights and I had a couple of dozen - even using DEET and trying to cover up at night. I could barely sleep with them buzzing in my ear and ended up wearing full length clothes all night to avoid getting savaged every night! Annoying not to have nets which would have immediately solved the problem and are standard in many other hotels we have traveled to around Africa. Some more positive things were the availability of taxis outside the hotel, who the hotel were able to call for you if you wanted. We went on a tour to the nearby Bandia Reserve which was pretty decent and the (quite grumpy) hotel events guy was able to arrange this easily. The staff were nice to the kids, although a bit rude and non-responsive to us which didn't make us feel particularly welcomed. Also for fellow Brits or other non-French speakers, the staff didn't speak much if any English (to be expected and we speak reasonable French so were able to get by). There was a bit of gentle harassment from sellers on the beach, but we've had worse and there were some nice bits and pieces to buy as souvenirs. Overall, probably not a place or hotel we would return to unfortunately.

On our last trip to Senegal we moved 4 times due to poor hotels and this was the last place we stayed. I wish this was where we came first as we had a great time there. The room was basic but very clean and had everything we needed including aircon. The pool , location and staff were brill. I have to mention the guy on reception who was very friendly, helpful and spoke a little English. Also the guys doing the entertainment and DJ music were lovely and energetic. They made you feel very welcome. We especially enjoyed the archery . Bouba in the restaurant was such a lovely guy who always made sure we had what we needed and served us with a smile. If I was to criticise anything it would be that for me there was perhaps a little too much of a French influence for me and I personally would prefer more African entertainment and singing. I feel that if I want ''French'' I would go to France. However, we would definitely return, hopefully soon Well done to Royal Saleyand all the staff Mame Diarra and Moustapha

Nice hotel surrounded by green baobabs. The beach is not very good. It is necessary to go right along the shore from the hotel. The pool is clean. The service is good. The food is great. The staff is friendly.

+ Nice beach, great pool, beautiful garden, wide selection during meal times. - Although the hotel was half empty, I got a house very far from the central (pool and restaurant) area and the beach. - Local guys never leave you alone on the beach (which becomes a bit irritating after a while, however the same happens when you go out to the village). - Fridge or safe available only on a weekly rental basis

We went to Senegal for 10 days and stayed at the Saly hotel. We throughly enjoyed our time this was down to the facilities and all the people who work in the 2 resorts (it's two hotels in one). From those in reception, bar, pool attendees and restaurant everyone smiles and offers first class and attentive service. English is not widely spoken but didn't cause an issue, we do suggest you brush up on French (something we need to do more of in the uk)and have the Google translate app to hand. The rooms are excellent and surprisingly large (ours had a separate sleeping area), we requested an iron which was provided. The food in the hotel is of good quality and there is even a microwave on hand if you like your food piping hot like we do. The location of hotel is in close proximity to most things. There is a long beach attached to this hotel, you are free to walk all the way along. It is shared by other hotels which is beautiful. We would recommend this hotel you will not regret it. We plan to return soon.

Spacious and beautiful resort in an authentic African architectural style, well insulated from street noise in a lush and well-maintained garden, surrounded by a arid and dusty landscape mostly covered by sprawling, mostly poor residential areas. Outside of the resort there is little in the way of shops etc.; the surrounding streets and public beaches are continuously patrolled by numerous and friendly but very persistent hawkers and the occasional beggars, and -- despite resort-sponsored cleanup efforts -- lots of plastic garbage. The rooms are spacious, and despite visible aging, comfortable. The security however, at least in a number of rooms that we have seen, is clearly insufficient (outside sliding doors with broken locks or without locks, bathroom windows without bars that are routinely left open for ventilation, badly closing front doors, and no safe deposit box in the rooms). Security personnel are doing their best with apparently limited means, but failed to prevent an organized simultaneous burglary in four guest rooms within hours of our arrival, resulting in the theft of well-hidden cash money, as well as some smartphones (and other items). As ATM's in Senegal have a reputation for unreliability, most guests bring their spending money in cash, and these burglaries left several guests without a dime. A confused investigation ensued that produced no results but stretched halfway through the night, followed the next day by a lenghty procedure at the -- strictly French-speaking -- local gendarmerie. Credible information from unrelated local people indicates that comparable incidents have occurred with some frequency in the past. The hotel management reacted sympathetically and offered limited practical assistance, but did not consider itself responsible.

My family and I stayed at Royal Saly for a weekend getaway. The staff was pleasant and courteous. I was a bit on edge as other reviews stated the front desk receptionist is rude - but no quarrels. The food was good but again as some people stated, they were hosting conferences; if you did not get there at a reasonable time, the food was almost gone. However the selection they had was amazing. Overall I would recommend staying here again. My family and I booked here to have a peaceful and restful stay since we were primarily in Dakar. Nice beach and pool area!
