This is a magnificent structural complex. THe chateau in its present state is very authentic. The remodeling which occurred was of a very high quality. As much of the period structure such as the wooden hallway floors are great and creak a little when you walk down the hall. The bed linens etc are of a high quality. The heating... More

This is a castle in grand style with a history going back to the 1300s. It was burned down by the English in the 1500s for which I apologised to our gracious hosts m and mme des Monstiers. Without doubt this is one of the best stops we have ever made on our way down to the South of France.... More

Only opens a few hours a week from about 2pm onwards, so had a picnic, had a quick chat with owner who explained that his wife would be showing us round. So greeted at the door by the Countess, who showed us round, she was lovely, it was very interesting to have the history not only of the building and... More

We visited on the Sunday afteroon during the annual Patromony weekend (held annually in France, September). It was a great 2-3 hours. We did not stay the night, so cannot comment on the overnight accommodation, we were on the special guided tour of the property. All the family seemed to be in attendance, as it really is still a family-run... More

We visited Oradour sur Glane and then came here. The stay was very relaxing, 'the castle' is located near a little town in a quiet location. Lovely old building with a whole history behind. Our room had a view on field behind and you could feel like you were in the middle of nowhere, nothing could disturb your sleep -... More

In September we paid our third visit to the historic and welcoming Château du Fraisse. Our host and hostess, Count and Countess des Monstiers de Mérinville, always come out to greet us with such warmth and graciousness as we drive up to the château. This year was no exception, and we once again found ourselves welcomed like old friends who... More

Stayed at this wonderful and "original" chateau for three nights. The slightly isolated location adds to the charm. Breakfasted like royalty in the wood panelled dining room and lots of history which the hosts are very eager to show you. Lots of recommended local sites to explore, including a WW1 village recreation. The marquesse was a wonderful hostess with lots... More

The Chateau is located some 10km from the nearest village which has a reasonable restaurant which only opens for a part of the year. Due to no dining facilities at the Chateau this may be problematic as the next dining facility is in Bellac. The local taxi service, unfortunately, is rather on the expensive side. The accommodation is in the... More

We stayed for two nights at this remarkable château. The total cost, for two, of a twin room and breakfast was Eur 90.00. In our opinion, it was a far more interesting place to stay than a standard hotel. Our hosts were very friendly and charming and spent an hour showing us around the magnificent main rooms. Highly recommended.
