Experience the old-world charm of Kalaw Heritage Hotel, a landmark hotel at the former hill station Kalaw, built during the British era in 1903 hence the second oldest hotel in Myanmar after the glorious “The Strand Hotel Yangon” built in 1901. Kalaw is situated 70 km west of Taunggyi; the capital of Shan state and about 50 km from Pindaya caves. Kalaw sits high on the western edge of the Shan Plateau and was a popular hill station in the British times. It is still a peaceful and quiet place with an atmosphere remnants of colonial era, located in 1320 m above sea level with a pleasantly cool weather and is a good place for hiking through pines and bamboo groves and beautiful mountains scenery.

Detailed Reviews
Small but nice boutique hotel in Kalaw,a hill station having British colonial feel. We got a suite which was a large, comfortable room but a view partially blocked by another building but still a good view.
The Hotel has printed map of the town showing two different Heritage Walks showing heritage bungalows. They also have an hourly courtesy shuttle service that can drop and pick up guests at 3 important locations in the town- city market, railway station and the clock tower. It is very convenient.
Breakfast spread was good

There is so much to like about this hotel - from the beautiful colonial buildings and the lovely setting to the excellent food and staff. My bedroom was in the 1906 building. The room was very spacious, beautifully decorated with antique furniture, had a very comfortable bed and a nice bathroom with an excellent shower. The wifi was also very good. There is an extensive breakfast menu. I tried three different options and all three were delicious. I had dinner twice at the hotel and, while the menu is a bit limited (during Covid pandemic times), the food was very very good and nicely presented. The staff is excellent and I was very impressed with the service and attentiveness throughout my stay. Overall, I enjoyed my stay very much and happily recommend the hotel to others.

We had a late Sunday lunch in an empty restaurant but my Sea Bass wrapped in Banana leaf was freshly cooked and great . Coffee on the terrace and a walk around the garden after were very pleasant. It seems quite an up market hotel but the prices seemed very reasonable. Happy hour was 4-6 and the bar was very tempting

Tasteful hotel setting in an old heritage building providing a great experience in Kalaw. Bar is great to hang out, gardens are very well maintained, just the breakfast coffee could do a bit better.
Stay in the main building rooms, more spacious and higher standard.

We stayed there 1 night, we moved from other hotel with bad experience, and we had the same there. We wanted the double bed, they put two single beds together. If they put the same bed and make comfortable, it is fine for us, we don’t mind. But the beds are slightly different and have a obvious line between them. It was uncomfortable for us!
The room is clean and the surrounding is also very nice. The best thing is the bathroom, we really like it!
Early morning, pigeons made a lot of noice on the roof and some birds made sounds on the glass of the window. We woke up very early because of these noice.
The worst thing that we had is, we were at Te new building. Three local man made very loud noise and played video game downstairs. That is the worst experience that we’ve ever had before. There is no staff in this building and we informed to reception to tell them. When we back from dinner, they were there and drinking beer together. After this, we heard something crush or somebody throw something to the upstairs. We decided to neglect. Next morning, we found the Myanmar Beer lids on the hall way. The worst experience ever!

We stayed in a room without a balcony in the Acorn wing to the rear of the main hotel. Have a drink in the elegant bar during happy hour with 30% off select drinks. This hotel is out of town and we didn't venture off the grounds.

Enjoyed staying at Kalaw Heritage Hotel. Beds are very comfy and rooms are spacious. I enjoyed sitting outside reading or inside the bar area. We found the old newspapers from Singapore quite entertaining. They have a good drink selection, both non-alcoholic as well as cocktails. If you play tennis there is also a tennis court on the grounds. Will stay here again when I go to Kalaw next. Payment by visa card was possible.

Took a road trip from Bagan to Kalaw on our way to Inle Lake. Great hotel. Comfy bed, lovely hot and high pressure shower. Beautiful colonial setting. Great wine selection and surrounded by a few restaurants if you want to eat out.

The main building has a British-Colonial feel. The room was large and comfortable. The hotel is reasonably priced; however, it is wonderful.
The breakfast was extensive and delicious. Dinner was priced reasonably. The staff is lovely. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Hotel has an old charm. 120 years old. Has tennis court. Our team members enjoyed playing. Staff are not slow. Check in was slow. Not very welcoming. Breakfast was Ala Carte. Serving was slow. Check out was slow. Room and Bed is ok. Perfect location. Nice with large garden. We had tried the Bar too. Only one bartender serving so slow. Hotel can improve by training these staff.

Dear jbushman, thank you very much for your question! We do recommend to use one of the several car limousine provider in Yangon. 7 days tours is one of them.
