Experience the old-world charm of Kalaw Heritage Hotel, a landmark hotel at the former hill station Kalaw, built during the British rule in 1903 hence the second oldest hotel in Myanmar after the glorious “The Strand Hotel Yangon” built in 1901. Kalaw is situated 70 km west of Taunggyi; the capital of Shan state and about 50 km from Pindaya caves. Kalaw sits high on the western edge of the Shan Plateau and was a popular hill station in the British times. It is still a peaceful and quiet place with an atmosphere remnants of colonial era, located in 1320 m above sea level with a pleasantly cool weather and is a good place for hiking through pines and bamboo groves and beautiful mountains scenery.

Driving in the big double gates and up the driveway the building was very impressive with nice views from every room across the flowering gardens and hills. The rooms were lovely and the staff were curtious and mostly spoke good English. We had a lovely evening sitting on the porch having a cocktail during happy hour and the breakfast buffet was really good with both western and asian options galore! We tucked in with vigar as we were starting a two day trek to Inle Lake that day (Sams trekking was great and will arrange pick up from here). We suggested to the manager that a pool (instead of tennis court perhaps) would make this place perfect. For the approx 40 dollars usd we paid it was a good stay and not to far to walk to town via the google maps walking directions (shorter than road)

We stayed 3 nights at this nice and well managed property and we enjoyed every minute there. The rooms are rustical and really nice, you feel like you've been put back to the early 20th century at the second you arrive. In an absolutely awesome way of course. The food from the restaurant is some of the most delicious we tried so far in Burma. Even the bar is an experience of its own. It is truly heritage and not vintage! On the last day we had also a really nice talk with the manager telling us some interesting stories about the property's past. We will stay there anytime we come back to Myanmar!

Great hotel with beautiful buildings and colonial decor, quiet, peaceful. Staff is excellent. Shower does not drain and the bathroom becomes a lake after one shower. Breakfast is just ok: some variety but not much quality. A bit anoying to see the manager/owner scolding the staff in public. I enjoyed my stay but I have spent another night in kalaw in a different a hotel and I think there are better options for money. If you want rest and peace then you must choose this hotel

Best place for a time out ... from the impressions, the heat, the dust and busy traffic. This hotel is just the perfect place to recover, resettle and breathe in the fresh air; feel the memories of past colonial time, where the British spent their summertime, away from the heat and humidity. Wonderfull and spacious rooms; very friendly people; dining at the restaurant is highly recommended. We'll be back for sure!

Staff very friendly, good food and a great vintage atmosphere. Old colonial construction, well preserved, you really feel the British style. Food is ok and reasonable for the price you pay. Is not a 5-star hotel but prices are in accordance with the offer. Would recommend to anyone staying at Kalaw.
