The River Resort is located on 400 meters of naturally landscaped Mekong River frontage in the south of Laos, close to the renowned Wat Phou UNESCO World Heritage site. The Resort's architecture and decor are contemporary Southeast Asian. 22 of its 28 guest rooms have stunningly beautiful, panoramic views of the Mekong River; and the other 6 have fine views of beautiful evergreen rice paddy, flowering trees and tranquil ponds. Each guest room has an indoor and an outdoor shower and other high-standard amenities. The Resort’s open-air Dining Sala, overlooking the Mekong, includes a restaurant offering Western and Laotian/Thai cuisine, alfresco dining on its Riverfront lawns, a cocktail/juice bar, and a rooftop lounge for private meetings. Two infinity swimming pools and the Resort’s onsite Spa complement a relaxing stay. Its two private Riverboats offer casual journeys on the Mekong and sunset cocktail cruises, including - when the Mekong is at ebb - spectacular sunsets viewed from a soft sand beach on a remarkable uninhabited, sandstone island offshore the Resort. The River Resort is an ecologically and environmentally responsible hotel, committed to the use of replenishable bamboo for most of its furniture, organic and hydroponic "farm to table" gardens, recycling of inorganic waste, composting of other waste, as well as solar heated hot water for its kitchens; and is also committed to the improvement of the education of its local staff and the livelihood of its local community.

Great tranquil tropical resort hotel comprised of some 10 bungalows, horizontally split into some 20 rooms with a terrace on lovely grounds along the shore of the very wide and beautiful Mekong river. The hotel is ideally situated to visit Champasak province and south Lao, which is much more authentic than Luang Prabang: Boloven plateau, Vat Phou, the pre-Angkor Unesco WHS, the 4000 islands in the Mekong, etc . Breakfast is good, and so is dinner,,,, esp. for a country that ranks as one of the poorest in the world. Friendly staff, speaking reasonably good English, better than in Thai hotels outside BKK. Most people stay only 1 night as they tour the country by minibus, so the resort is empty during the day and a natural oasis. We stayed six nights and loved it. We did not miss a tv in the room. We came by car from Thailand and I wish to alert drivers that there is no 95 gasoline in Lao. Thanks to the Thai GM for helping us insure the car for a week and the SIM to be able to use our smartphone. The hotel is very well-managed!

After travelling around this area of Laos for a while, the prices at the River Resort may seem pretty high, but you really get what you pay for. The resort is lovely with beautiful river views and clean, spacious rooms (and comfortable beds! Such a relief after a few weeks of rock hard mattresses!). The staff are all excellent, the food is good and the house cocktails were really tasty.

I borrowed a bike and made the trip to Wat Phou, which was tough in the heat but totally doable. You get the same sort of one-speed that the locals ride.

You get two bottles of water in the room, and this will be replenished later if required. When I asked, I was able to take a jug of water from the restaurant instead so that I didn't need to go through any more plastic bottles. As an eco place, it would be nice to see jugs of water provided by default, with bottles on request.

We welcome you as guests at The River Resort in Champasak, Laos, occupying a magnificent 6 hector site bordering the mighty Mekong River. We appreciate that you found our Resort "lovely", spacious , clean and comfortable; with an "excellent" staff; good food (with tasty house cocktails); and offering all the amenities for a 3+ star hotel. We are pleased that you borrowed a complimentary bicycle from our Front Office to make a several hour journey to Vat Phou, a remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many of our guests tell us that this was the cultural highlight of their visit to the South of Laos. We hope to see you again sometime soon so you can enjoy our trees, flora and all-year rice culture; lovely sunrises over the Mekong River from your room; also our sunset cruise to Turtle Island in the middle of the Mekong for relaxation or a Beer Lao before your dinner or a welcome massage in our private Resort Spa. Cordially, David (Managing Director)

The resort is set on a beautifully and carefully crafted block of land next to the Mekong and only a few minutes drive away from Champasak town. The resort is tastefully decorated and designed with maximum privacy in the 2 story villa setting (2 rooms per villa with separate entrances). The rooms are spacious and generates a feeling of calm and serenity.

We stayed in the river facing rooms on a recent promotion which was had a 50% discount from standard room rates. Well worth the money and the view of the sunrise overlooking the Mekong from the comfort of our bed is remarkable and mesmerizing with full floor to ceiling windows. The vast amount of trees provide shade in the heat of Southern Laos and the cooling natural breeze that flows through the Mekong provides a surreal experience. This is definitely the place to relax and get away from it all. The only downfall is the water pressure - hardly any which made it difficult to shower and impossible to try out the outdoor shower. The rooms are very clean however, given the setting, there are of course lots of bugs around which didn't bother me at all.

The breakfast was very solid from a more western focused a la carte menu. We didn't eat otherwise at the hotel. There are also two pools to choose from and lots of space for the kiddies to run around.

At only 30 min drive away from Pakse city, I would definitely recommend this place as an alternative away from the hustle and bustle.

At the end of my Laos trip I stayed two nights at the RIver Resort and loved it very much.As I wanted to relax and enjoy the pool as well, I stayed for 1.5 days only in the resort. The scenery with the Mekong, trees, birds, plants etc is amazing! The service and friednliness of the staff was excellent, the room to the river first-class and the food, of course a bit expensive, very good. I appreciated also the possiblity to refill the water bottle for free to help reduce plastic bottles.
The taxi-service to the airport was also first-class and the price even lower than informed in town a day before.

Whole heartedly agree with the many reviews which talk about the fantastic setting and wonderful views. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a river view room and I would highly recommend these rooms. Hard to overstate just how beautiful the view is and what a treat it was to see the sunrise in the morning.

Would recommend dining out in Champasak as thought that the restaurant food was a little overpriced and disappointing. The Bassac residence (dinner)and Homemade in town ( lunch) were both great.

However overall would highly recommend just for the views and location. Wonderful friendly and helpful staff too.

Arriving mid-late afternoon, we were offered a deal for one of the ‘last River View’ rooms. Although still pricey (USD), what a magic place to stay and well worthy of multiple nights if within your budget with breakfast included.
Our brief stay restricted the opportunity to utilise all facilities, even with the offer of ‘discounted’ drinks at the bar and food at the restaurant that evening. A few local options were also lovely and priced well.
Same as many other reviews, the atmosphere and ambiance is priceless.

These guys have done a marvellous job keeping this stunning accommodation in good shape during the long Covid-closed period. There were few guests when we visited in October 22 but the rooms, restaurant, pools and gardens were being perfectly maintained. The staff hadn't had much recent experience with western guests but they worked hard (and successfully) to provide an excellent service. The cocktails are highly recommended!

This place is lovely. I wish I could write a positive review. However we just checked out and I was charged 150 000 Kip extra because my 6 year old vomited in the night (after eating dinner in the resort restaurant!!). The staff member who charged me the fee showed no concern on hearing about the child’s health, just insisted on the fee! The amount of vomit on the sheets was tiny and we cleaned it up — they charged us because of the faint mark that was left after we cleaned it. It was a real kick in the face after nursing a sick child through the night. I’ve never seen or heard of such a rough treatment dealt to a family traveling with young kids. So I’d say this place is great to come to, but not if you have young kids or have ever been ill.

We stayed three nights in the river ressort. Our booked „gardenview appartment 1st floor“ was really nicely furnished, completely glazed to the front with a huge terrace and offered a fantastic view into the garden and onto the Mekong! Did I mention that we has our private indoor and outdoor shower? And I would like to praise the whole team in the Ressort - especially Kerrin and Jack who were very professional, dedicated and friendly. Finally: thank you, Jack for supporting us 4 days later in Ubon - we met him by accident at the boarder to Thailand and he helped us to catch the right transport to the airport!! Highly appreciated!!

Dear Guests at The River Resort in Champasak, Laos, we are very much pleased that you spent 3 night with us. We understand that you enjoyed your Ground Floor Villa, nicely furnished and having a "huge" terrace with a "fantastic" view of our gardens and the mighty Mekong River; and enjoying a private indoor and outdoor shower. Our team of servers greatly appreciated your compliment that they are professional, dedicated and friendly. As for our server named Jack, he told us 4 days later that he would accompany you to the border at Ubon Ratchatani Airport, so you would be sure that you caught the right flight back to your destination. When asked by his supervisor, Jack told him that he was very much pleased to do that for guests of The River Resort. Bravo to you, Jack!

Unfailingly attentive, friendly, and professional staff, especially Mr. Phommakarn, head of the restaurant, who is fluent in English, French, and Lao. The grounds were impeccable, and had the special touch of incorporating working rice fields in the landscaping! October is the perfect month to stay here, as the Mekong is especially majestic, and the mountains and valleys are relentlessly green!

Hello, how far is this resort from Kuang Si Falls
Answer from The River Resort
Champasak Town, Laos21 contributions10 helpful votes
Yes, it's a long "hike" (several hours' flight) from Luang Prabang in the North of Laos to Champasak in the South of Laos. There are many things to see and do in the South, including the largest waterfall in S.E. Asia and wonderful Wat Phou, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating from the Angkor Period in Cambodia. The River Resort is a 30 - 40 minute tuk-tuk ride to and from Wat Phou.

How do you get to The River Resort from Luang Prabang?
Answer from The River Resort
Champasak Town, Laos21 contributions10 helpful votes
Easiest way to come from Luang Prabang is by air, generally there are one or two flights a day directly to our international airport, in Pakse, about 45 minutes' drive to the Resort. There are also daily flights from Luang Prabang to Vientiane, the capital, which many guests enjoy visiting for a day, before catching the next morning's flight to Pakse. Hope to see you soon!

Hi, it's as easy as pie (as my grandmother used to say) to book direct for The River Resort! You can go to our website, enter the Reservation page and book online there; or you can email our General Manager, Kitkosol, ask him about your preferred dates, rates and availability. As you have seen us on TripAdvisor, I suggest that you find the Special Offer banner at the top of our TripAdvisor home page to see some very good value packages for a minimum 2 or 3 nights' stay; and also coming soon on our website is a "Stay 3, Pay 2 nights" promotion if you are not interested in our Special Offers. To answer your other question, we can easily meet your arriving flight from Cambodia. It's a 45-minute +/- drive to our Resort. Please feel free to ask our General Manager about the price. We hope to have the pleasure of your visit! Cordially, David (Managing Director)

Hi, are you asking whether we are a "downtown hotel"? If so, we are definitely not a downtown hotel . . . we are located about 40 minutes drive south of Pakse, a city of about 25,000 people with an international airport. Our nearest, small town is Champasak, about 2 km (a short bicycle or tuk tuk ride) from our Resort. We hope to see you as a guest at The River Resort after you check us out on TripAdvisor! You can book directly on our website or by phone or email, as shown on our TripAdvisor home page. Cordially, David
