The River Resort is located on 400 meters of naturally landscaped Mekong River frontage in the south of Laos, close to the renowned Wat Phou UNESCO World Heritage site. The Resort's architecture and decor are contemporary Southeast Asian. 22 of its 28 guest rooms have stunningly beautiful, panoramic views of the Mekong River; and the other 6 have fine views of beautiful evergreen rice paddy, flowering trees and tranquil ponds. Each guest room has an indoor and an outdoor shower and other high-standard amenities. The Resort’s open-air Dining Sala, overlooking the Mekong, includes a restaurant offering Western and Laotian/Thai cuisine, alfresco dining on its Riverfront lawns, a cocktail/juice bar, and a rooftop lounge for private meetings. Two infinity swimming pools and the Resort’s onsite Spa complement a relaxing stay. Its two private Riverboats offer casual journeys on the Mekong and sunset cocktail cruises, including - when the Mekong is at ebb - spectacular sunsets viewed from a soft sand beach on a remarkable uninhabited, sandstone island offshore the Resort. The River Resort is an ecologically and environmentally responsible hotel, committed to the use of replenishable bamboo for most of its furniture, organic and hydroponic "farm to table" gardens, recycling of inorganic waste, composting of other waste, as well as solar heated hot water for its kitchens; and is also committed to the improvement of the education of its local staff and the livelihood of its local community.

The reviews for this resort are all great and ditto here. The staff is incredible and friendly. The room was large and spacious with a gorgeous view of the Mekong. The highlight was the double sinks in the bathroom and there was room for our toiletries. The food at the restaurant was delicious. The grilled Mekong fish in olive oil was superb. We booked a tour of Vat Phou through the hotel. Bobby was our guide and she was fantastic. What a lovely woman and so knowledgeable. We also visited the local village where we watched the local woman weaving sticky rice boxes - even bought one take home. However the highlight was when Bobby took us to her families restaurant in Champasak town that overlooks the Mekong. Once she offered to pick us up and drop us off we were sold. See The Saythong Restaurant review.

We were referred to this resort by a friend that has either visited or worked (volunteer) in the country for the past 14 years. He was spot on when he suggested we stay at the resort after a hectic start to our trip. We traveled to the Bolaven Plateau known for it's waterfalls as well as coffee and tea plantations. We also took a tuk tuk arranged by the hotel into the local town for lunch and shopping. We took advantage of the massage services and resort restaurant which were exceptional. We rose at dawn to capture majestic sunrise photos.....we highly recommend this resort.

Hello to you, dear guests at The River Resort in Champasak Province, Laos. Thank you for your nice review of our Resort on TripAdvisor. We noted that you found us from a friend of yours who has lived in Laos for many years and could guide you to the Bolaven Plateau for Coffee Culture and splendid waterfalls. We are pleased that you enjoyed our Spa for on-site massage and our open-air Resort Restaurant, both of which you felt were "exceptional". And then you rose at dawn to shoot majestic sunrise photos at our Resort. Thank you for your closing comment that you highly recommend The River Resort. We will be happy to see you again whenever you return to Southeast Asia. With our warm regards, David D

Reception staff with the exception of two ‘senior staff’ we dealt with are pretty average if not confusing. More language training may be useful and a more pro-active approach helpful. We do not think it is a lack of trying though. Clearly one should not forget this location is in a very nice quiet part of Laos without any of the modern trappings or nearby large town. The restaurant serves some signature dishes (fish) we thought delicious. Quite expensive though ! The staff appeared pretty professional and nice. The location of the hotel, the bedroom suites , accommodation, gardens , rice paddies, 2 swimming pools , lighting at night all are well designed and very much appreciated. We are glad we booked 3 nights. It makes for a peaceful haven and it is for the guests to show initiative and organise either a quiet time with a good book or travel with a guide to visit a couple of highlights in the immediate area.

Dear Guest at The River Resort in the South of Laos (Champasak Province). We appreciate your review of our Resort, titled "What a great panoramic view of the Mekong." However, we are concerned that you found our Reception Staff, other than our 2 senior staff, lacking in language skills, but you found all of them trying their best. We applaud them for that! We are also pleased that you enjoyed your dinners and found them delicious, with professional and nice service. And we thank you for your comments on our panoramic location on the Mekong, excellent accommodations, beautiful gardens, 2 swimming pools, and good light at night. Thank you also for telling us that you were glad that you booked 3 nights at our Resort. That compliment is very much appreciated! With our best wishes as you depart for your homeland. Cordially, David

Comfortable clean rooms. Lovely setting. Staff all very helpful. They easily arranged a Tuk tuk to take us to the temple complex at a reasonable price. We didn’t want to take the hotel sunset cruise as we didn’t want to drink alcohol so early- they were more than happy to arrange a local boatman to take us out again good price and so good we did it again the next night! Resturant food tasty and freshly cooked. Only issue was lack of hot water in the room but that may have been as our room was at the end of the block, warm enough not to complain. Free bicycles were good for a quick tour into the local town.

Dear guests at The River Resort in the south of Laos, we are very happy to hear your comments about your stay with us, such as our comfortable and clean guestrooms; a lovely setting overlooking the Mekong River; staff all very helpful; a sunset cruise on the Mekong, and another the next evening; restaurant cuisine tasty and freshly cooked. We apologize that there was minimal hot water in your guestroom ... it probably was caused by the fact that the guest rooms' exterior water boilers had to be closed because of rising waters occasioned by very unusual flooding of the Mekong River this year We hope that you will have a pleasant return to your homeland. Please drop by The River Resort again should you be again in Laos .... we will be pleased to greet you if you have time to spare. Cordially, David (Managing Director)
