The River Resort is located on 400 meters of naturally landscaped Mekong River frontage in the south of Laos, close to the renowned Wat Phou UNESCO World Heritage site. The Resort's architecture and decor are contemporary Southeast Asian. 22 of its 28 guest rooms have stunningly beautiful, panoramic views of the Mekong River; and the other 6 have fine views of beautiful evergreen rice paddy, flowering trees and tranquil ponds. Each guest room has an indoor and an outdoor shower and other high-standard amenities. The Resort’s open-air Dining Sala, overlooking the Mekong, includes a restaurant offering Western and Laotian/Thai cuisine, alfresco dining on its Riverfront lawns, a cocktail/juice bar, and a rooftop lounge for private meetings. Two infinity swimming pools and the Resort’s onsite Spa complement a relaxing stay. Its two private Riverboats offer casual journeys on the Mekong and sunset cocktail cruises, including - when the Mekong is at ebb - spectacular sunsets viewed from a soft sand beach on a remarkable uninhabited, sandstone island offshore the Resort. The River Resort is an ecologically and environmentally responsible hotel, committed to the use of replenishable bamboo for most of its furniture, organic and hydroponic "farm to table" gardens, recycling of inorganic waste, composting of other waste, as well as solar heated hot water for its kitchens; and is also committed to the improvement of the education of its local staff and the livelihood of its local community.

We had a lovely spacious room with fantastic views of the Mekong. The staff made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them. There are two gorgeous swimming pools and the service throughout the resort was excellent.

Hotel's Favorite
Great tranquil tropical resort hotel comprised of some 10 bungalows, horizontally split into some 20 rooms with a terrace on lovely grounds along the shore of the very wide and beautiful Mekong river. The hotel is ideally situated to visit Champasak province and south Lao, which is much more authentic than Luang Prabang: Boloven plateau, Vat Phou, the pre-Angkor Unesco WHS, the 4000 islands in the Mekong, etc . Breakfast is good, and so is dinner,,,, esp. for a country that ranks as one of the poorest in the world. Friendly staff, speaking reasonably good English, better than in Thai hotels outside BKK. Most people stay only 1 night as they tour the country by minibus, so the resort is empty during the day and a natural oasis. We stayed six nights and loved it. We did not miss a tv in the room. We came by car from Thailand and I wish to alert drivers that there is no 95 gasoline in Lao. Thanks to the Thai GM for helping us insure the car for a week and the SIM to be able to use our smartphone. The hotel is very well-managed!

Unfailingly attentive, friendly, and professional staff, especially Mr. Phommakarn, head of the restaurant, who is fluent in English, French, and Lao. The grounds were impeccable, and had the special touch of incorporating working rice fields in the landscaping! October is the perfect month to stay here, as the Mekong is especially majestic, and the mountains and valleys are relentlessly green!

The river resort looks over the Mekong, has a nice restaurant space, two lovely pools and expansive gardens. What makes this resort, however, is the lovely staff. My family was extremely unwell when we stayed here (with food poisoning picked up in Vientiane). The staff were kind, and assisted me clean up some very foul messes! They also went above and beyond to assist us to sleep in the same room at late notice, and to bring us bland food to the room etc. It was a beautiful place to rest and get well at, and I would recommend it to people who enjoy watching the river, being close to Champerssak village (which was delightful to ride to/through) and to the stunning Vat Phou. It is important to note that the hotel is not five star. The fittings are not new, and the outdoor shower perhaps does not have water pressure etc. However, keep in mind it is an isolated hotel, and all things considered it is very comfortable. I hope to one day return without the stress of illness and misadventure - but if I don't, I wish the hotel and all of its staff well for the future.

We had a really relaxing and rejuvenating time at the River Resort in Champasak, Laos, where we stayed for a week. The setting is lovely, the staff is so kind, the Mekong River views are magnificent, the Thai/Lao and western food and drink is wonderful (I appreciate the veg food, though I wish there were more vegetarian/vegan choices), the bed is so comfortable, the indoor/outdoor shower so nice, the pool is refreshing, the locals are friendly, the rice fields are glorious, the cats are cute, the prices are inexpensive, the service is attentive and nice, the neighboring villages are interesting, the nearby UNESCO World Heritage Site ruins of Vat Phou are fascinating … Needless to say, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here!

In an area dominated by backpacker establishments I can see why this hotel tops Tripadvisor’s list. The setting is glorious, looking east over the Mekong. Food is very good and not expensive. Staff are delightful, if not always efficient. Our room was lacking some basic items when we arrived. One might have hoped that refurbishments would have been done as lockdown eased; the room was, however, tatty in places. There are oddities that I have not seen since backpacker days, such as a sternly worded list of costs for breakages and a strident warning that ‘smudges’ on the bedding would also be chargeable. The hotel website says there are TVs in the rooms: there are not. The in-room info sheets advise ringing reception with any problems, which is difficult when there is no phone in the room. Still, this is a decent hotel that only needs more attention to detail to become very good.

We spent four nights at the resort while exploring the Bolaven Plateau, Wat Phou, Sipandon (4000 island) and Dan Daeng Island. After a warm welcome we were taken to our upper floor garden room. It was large, comfortable with a large balcony and stunning view of river and gardens. The property is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed in with tropical foliage and two well landscaped swimming pools on the bank of the Mekong. The staff went out of their wat to look after us. Breakfast provided a good choice and food at dinner was excellent. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and am keen to return some day.

It‘s the place where time stand still. The resort is a green oasis with a panoramic view over the majestic Mekong. A perfect spot to relax and explore Vat Phu - Champasak has not a sights lot to offer. So don’t bother that the resort is 2 km outside of the town. The whole resort is super well cared, clean and spacious. You find two pools (sunrise/sunset), a restaurant, different terraces at the garden. The rooms are modern-minimalistic with a great outdoor shower (indoor as well). The breakfast is fresh and various, lunch and dinner menu offer Asian and western food - everything delicious. And the staff is professional and friendly - they help you out with tour planing to the sights next by or regarding your further travels. Highly recommended!

Great location by the Mekong not too far from Pakse and close to Wat Phou. Rooms nice and overlook the river for a great sunrise, the 2 pools a good size and again quiet. Food in the restaurant was very good especially lunch / dinner, breakfast was ok. Service in the restaurant was also very good above what you may expect for the place. As with most hotels seemingly in Laos a lack of hangers for clothes? But overall very nice and would happily go back, you don’t need a beach when you have great views and the peace and quiet of the area.

One of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. I was travelling with my son and his fiancee and we were made so welcome. The rooms were absolutely stunning with the most comfortable beds. We had a lovely meal there in the evening which was great value and the breakfast was excellent. Absolutely faultless. The only bit I didn't like was not being able to stay longer. Thanks to all the staff who made the last night of our trip so truly memorable
