This is one of the best places we have stayed in South East Asia over the years. We stayed in a Baan Duanjam - up 200 + stairs from the office and the views were superb. If you can't do stairs then choose one of the three riverside bungalows that don't involved any climbing. The two days spent here were either relaxing on the huge balcony (see my pictures) or going down to the riverside to exercise along the running / cycle track. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Each night they transported our dinner (which we ordered when we were down at the office for breakfast) up the stairs, so we could eat it on our balcony overlooking the Mekong River and the mountains of Laos. The food was not overly expensive for a resort with a view. The overnight accommodation was quite expensive, but I guess this takes account of the expense it was to build this place - building materials would have had to be carried up very steep slopes with no road access to the actual dwellings at the top of the hill. Probably the only drawback was there was no phone in the room and therefore no other way of contacting reception other than trekking down 200+ stairs and climbing back up again - just to get some more toilet paper when it runs out.

We stayed at Rai Saeng Arun for 4 days, and due to availability, had to split between 2 nights in the Saeng Arun room and 2 nights in Rim Khong. Both room types are amazing, and we were glad we got to experience both. Saeng Arun is on top of the hill and quite a hike up, but its a very enjoyable walk through rice paddies and blooming lotus ponds. Rim Khong is smaller with excellent sunset and river views, but I can imagine how it can get a bit noisy since it is closer to the restaurant and the river walkway. There is not much to do around here, unless you have a car and intend to drive around. We just wanted to chill out and it served our purpose perfectly. The restaurant serves some wonderful thai food, all the ingredients coming fresh from the hotel farm. Even though very little English is spoken, we had a reasonable communication flow that allowed us to be very comfortable. The kitchen shuts down at 5, so they ask you to order for dinner and they cook it and deliver it to your room: the quantity was so much that we could barely finish what we were served. Highly recommend this place if you are in this area.

Very nice stay as long as you know what you’re in for. We landed at 9pm, and were picked up and transferred to the hotel (90min drive) without a problem - some other reviews said they couldn’t check in this late but it wasn’t a problem for us. The staff are all very friendly and were a highlight for us. Note minimal English is spoken. Most of the rooms are a big walk up the hill (about 10 min) but there are some rooms on the river that aren’t a long walk. Breakfast is either western or Thai and all very fresh produce. You sit by the river under bright red umbrellas to eat it. The kitchen shuts at 5:30pm, so we had a meal and some beers ordered to our room at 5:30pm. It was in stainless steel containers so kept hot for a while. There was a wide selection to chose from and it was delicious (particularly the northern Thai sausages). Huts were spacious with full bathroom, outdoor shower, hot water, TV and aircon. Many other reviews are quite negative as it is quite remote, it’s a long walk to the rooms, there isn’t much English and food isn’t available after 5:30pm...but for us that added to the adventure and the idyllic scenery and remoteness made up for it. If you need any tour services get in contact with a tour company in Chiang Rai (we used Coconut Tours who were reasonably priced and happy to come pick us up). We stayed in S1 and had great hill and river views.

Travelling as a smart solo motorcycle touring rider I booked this accommodation same day on Agoda for 3,500 Baht Approx USD 115. I thought it's expensive, but should be an idyllic remote hotel at the Mekong riverside. I was looking forward to my stay. After riding in the heat all day to I arrived in good time at 3.30pm. I was greeted by a lady staff member and asked where I could park my bike, and I parked where she indicated towards the rear of the front carpark, not in anyone's way. Before checking in, the owner told me there would be no restaurant or drinks service after 5.30pm, and that I should pre-order my food immediately. He then asked me to move my bike, to a location inside the grounds, I thought nearer to the location of the room for convenience. After re-parking where indicated by his staff again, he then asked me to move the bike for a 3rd time to the location he wanted. There were piles and bags of building and garden rubble all around, and some rooms there were cluttered with junk, these were not customer rooms it seemed. Starting to get annoyed, I asked if it was correct with room price of USD 115, there was no restaurant facility in the evening, and very untidy and inconvenient parking place. It turned out, that the rooms were actually located hundreds of meters away on the other side of the road, very far to carry my bags from the bike, and did not have a river view at all. I informed the owner I wanted to cancel the booking, and chose instead to ride on to Chiang Khong 40kms away, where I easily found very nice riverside accommodation with a great restaurant and freindly service for only 30USD per night. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this hotel to anyone. I was Badly treated by the owner, and for an expensive and remotely located hotel the only thing going for it would be its customer service and restaurant, which were sadly un-available.

Once we arrived in the evening, Khun Rien - Welcomer with full of professional service guy waited for us and provided such best service. He led us to the room via 150 high hill steps. Don’t forget to train yourself, it’s really high hill. We reached the villa on the top of the hill, it was cleaned and tidy same as toilet and opened-air shower room with stunning view. The balcony overlooking to Mae Kong river was fascinating same as breakfast restaurant. I forgot to tell you that we had a very delicious dinner from room service as restaurant was closed at 5 PM. The restaurant was located at the edge of the river in the middle of potager garden. We booked the room with breakfast and the breakfast was very privileged with a la cart dishes. You can select between very testy homemade boiled rice or American breakfast. Overall was great experience with my family. For travelers with elder or little child who are looking for this resort. I recommend to book room next to lobby or Rim Kong villa as it is next to main facilities.
