Rondo Retreat Centre is an amazingly beautiful and serene place in the middle of the Kakamega rainforest. Everybody working there seems friendly and kind. The carefully maintained resort area with beautiful lawns, trees, flowers and colonial style buildings make for a most restful atmosphere. My favourite activity was to lie on a padded bench on the balcony, listen to the birds, watch life and movement in the forest and read a classic novel. Interrupted by tasty breakfast, lunch, teatime and supper, spending the days like this was just perfect. On the other hand, I guess that chilling on the balcony was even more perfect when it followed a few hours of hiking through the rainforest and the interesting stories the guide had to tell.
What a lovely relaxing place. The cabins are so comfortable and the service is excellent. Great food, amazing gardens, lovely walks and the birdlife of the forest (and even just the gardens) is truly spectacular. A perfect place to chill out and enjoy some very special time with nature!
The staff is delightful but not intrusive. The food is delicious. I have been going to Rondo since the early 1990's, the quality has stayed excellent. Each house has beautiful decoration, comfortable beds and its own bathroom. I am a bird watcher and love being out in the forest with excellent guides. It is possible to see birds, animals, and lots of varied fauna on the property also. It is by far my favorite place to stay in Kenya.
Our experiences over the years at Rondo have been so universally positive, I felt compelled to write something. As missionaries needing a time for rest, renewal and time away, Rondo has been a massive blessing. For my wife's interest in bird watching, you can't compete with world class birds, guides and accommodations. We have been there often enough that the staff feel like family. Anyone who prefers a walk in a rain forest to the tyranny of the urgent should come to Rondo. Just my two cents worth.
This place is so nice! The location is great and the environment is beautiful. We stayed in the colobus cottage which was really charming and comfortable inside and of course the colobus monkeys were visiting us and checking out who’s staying there! Everything was clean inside and also outside the whole compound looks like it’s been really taken care of nicely. Lunch was good and in the afternoon we’ve been served tea at the cottage. Staff is friendly. Bathrooms inside the cottage are good and showers are hot. Dinner was also good and afterwards you’ll be served tea again at the lounge next to the dining room. The night was very quiet and comfortable. Breakfast the next day was good. Afterwards we went on a guided walk trough the kakamega forest with Wyclef who’s a good guide. He explained a lot about vegetation, plants and some animals. We climbed a hill and got a 360 degree view over the whole rainforest.…
