My wife and I visited for the first time and loved it. We enjoyed tennis, on the red clay, in the morning, swimming in the afternoon and rambling around the town looking for restaurants in the evening. John and Rosa are excellent hosts. We will certainly return. A great alternative to glitzy resorts. Steve And Kelly

So glad I agreed, at the last minute, to join my good friend on a trip to Melaque, staying at John La Point's place in Melaque. The rooms are spacious, beautiful, and clean. John and George drive us to these excellent clay courts in Cihuatlan every morning at 8am sharp, where we play a few hours of doubles, followed by cervesa's and good conversation. The beach is right across the street and the water is fabulously warm.

Wow, I had an amazing time. I had such a great time last year I came for my second year in a row. If you are a tennis fan/player, this is an experience you cannot miss this. WE stay in a beautiful room/ with views of the gorgeous crashing waves. We can also hear the waves from our room. The balcony is amazing. I am a tennis nut. When I wake up each morning John (owner) and his amazing wife (Dr Rosa :) great us with smiles. We all load into John's van and take a short (less than 15 min) drive to four awesome Red Clay Courts. Last year about 8 of us from San Francisco went on the trip. This year it was 6 from San Francisco. Many other strong players were staying in the hotel and came to tennis with us each day. 2-4 hours of tennis daily. Love it ;) There are a few high level locals that play doubles with us. There was never more than 16 people, so we always got to play doubles, no waiting. I hit singles a few times when we had open courts, which was perfect for me. Then , my first day playing tennis we all pile back into the van,, Love it, , and we go straight to Ceviche Sunday. John and Rosa know locals that have us over for an amazingly Fresh lunch. After that we came back to John's hotel, and we would walk along the beach..... Or,,,, we would grab a bike (John has approx 10 bikes free of charge) and bike around the town. It is completely safe, It is completely safe, once again, :) It is completely safe. Lots of merchants speak english. When I go on vacation, I really really do not like, all the work I have to do, to find out where to go/ eat/ relax. John and Rosa have solved that problem. Every night were were able to go to a local Restaurant for different types of cuisine. I loved this. While I was on the trip, somehow I came down with a cold (my wife had one a few days before we came on this trip). I missed a day of tennis because of this, John stopped by and Dr Rosa saw me immediately and got me some medication that worked for me. Melaque is beautiful, and the "normal tourist" hasn't really found it yet. There were plenty of Americans, but you could tell the ones that were here, loved this small town, and its peace and charm. I love this tennis vacation. It was great for non tennis players as well. My wife got to go "island hoping" stroll around downtown,go shopping, have lunch and dinner at restaurants, on the beach. John also has a Tennis Teaching Professional "on site", if you want to take a lesson or two. The price,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, is amazing. Love the dollar to peso :) I can't wait to go again next year............

The owners of this resort (John and Rosa) are very nice hosts that ensure your vacation stay is as pleasurable as possible. We arrived in late December and we had 8 days of glorious sunshine in Melaque. John and usually a tennis pro accompany guests at 8am for a short drive to a private Tennis facility with red clay courts. If you have ever played on red clay, you will know that you can play much longer than on normal hard courts. Your knees will be thanking you. We usually play doubles and there are usually different levels of tennis players that you can join. Normally, we would get in about 4 sets (if you play every set) and leave the tennis facility around 12pm. If you need tennis instruction (and who doesn't), there is usually a "Pro" that is staying for an extended period. I took a lesson with him and my volleys improved greatly with a small grip change. He can do multiple lessons for those starting out or just a tune up for old guys like me. If you ever have health issues, Rosa is the doctor in the town and she would prescribe any medication to soothe your stomach or even if you want to endulge in plasma treatments to your knees. She does a procedure that is around $100 CAD that would normally go for over $1100 in Canada. Mexico is fairly hot so after tennis, the rest of the day is spent at the beach or wandering around town with the bicycles or strolls along the beach. There are several beaches all reachable by bus or taxi. Taxi fares are the most convenient and they won't cost you very much. Prices are usually posted on the main squares to various destinations. Melaque is a small Mexican town and you will experience the real Mexico here. People are friendly and go out of the way to accommodate you. There is plenty of local food restaurants that varies from really cheap (Taco alley street food), to very fancy restaurants where the top end plates would be 400 - 500 pesos. Mexican beer is cheap and of course Margaritas are plentiful. One block away from the hotel is a "Spa" for pampering. This last trip I got a Theraputic massage for 40 minutes that cost 450 pesos. Of course, tennis improved tremendously the next day. As with any vacation, your happiness depends on things to do and people that you meet. If you are a tennis player, there's no better way to spend a week than here. This past trip has been my fourth trip. I am not retired yet but when I do, I can imagine spending weeks here.

I fell in love with this boutique hotel 15 years ago and return each year to play tennis on red clay with new and old friends. From the cold beer handed to me and my travelling companions by our hosts John and Dr. Rosa on arrival, to the tacos in Melaque's main square on Sunday nights, to the Wednesday night potluck dinners, to the final handshake across the net on our departure date, this is the Best!
