Stayed for 3 weeks in 2023 , this year stayed for 11 weeks ! Small hotel ( 10 apartments) authentic Mexican character, beautiful pool
Based very close to the beach , close to many small Mexican restaurants , if you play tennis you do have the opportunity to play each morning at courts 15 mins drive away . The owner does provide daily transport to 4 shale courts laid within a banana plantation
….. a unique situation
I returned to enjoy beautiful weather, play tennis and experience authentic Mexico
Melaque is an interesting small town
Many customers return year on year - the ultimate test

My wife and I visited for the first time and loved it. We enjoyed tennis, on the red clay, in the morning, swimming in the afternoon and rambling around the town looking for restaurants in the evening.
John and Rosa are excellent hosts.
We will certainly return. A great alternative to glitzy resorts.

I was looking for a small town genuine Mexico vacation but being a woman on her own I wanted to feel comfortable and safe. El Palmar for me was perfect. Only 50 meters from the beach it is an enclosed secure resort. The 10 units are set around a beautiful garden and pool. During the day it was an easy walk into Melaque where I could go shopping or sightseeing.John and Rose included me in their activities and treated me like family. I will be returning again.

I had a great vacation at El Palmar, stayed January and Feb this year as well as last and booked for 2016. As a woman travelling solo it is the most secure place that you could find anywhere.
John and Dr. Rosa make you feel like family and Katherine is there for all your wants and needs. If you don't fee like cooking there are several restaurants within easy walking distance. Also really enjoy the Wednesday night potlucks, never know what delicious dish you will be tasting.
I especially like Oso (the dog) and Gatitto(the cat) they are the touch that makes it a home away from home.
I highly recomend staying at El Palmar.
P.S. I don't play tennis, but that doesn't matter to anyone, looking forward to seeing my friends next year.

El Palmar provided a nice, spacious two bedroom condo with a good view of the Pacific. The condo was clean and the bread delivered was very good.

The pots and pans had seen better days as had the linens, pillows and bath mats/towels. All need to be replaced at this price point. Not a fancy area -- RV parks and run down bungalows across/down the street. Very noisy at night while we were there.

Hard to find supplies as first timers. No map or good area info provided. No TV but they did have WIFI. NO AC -- the breeze kept us pretty comfortable in late December. Would have liked to have access to umbrellas and chairs for the beach. The bikes offered at EP were nice. Bring bug spray for serious mosquitoes at dusk!

We were told by a pre trip El Palmar email that credit cards were accepted most places. That is NOT the case and it's tough to access working ATM's in the area. Make sure you have a very up to date ATM card with a chip and plenty of pesos on hand.

The tennis was not what we expected. We traveled in a HOT van 20 to 30 mins with few working seatbelts to clay tennis courts in a very poor area -- a bit scary. Looked like community courts. We got the impression from the website that there were pros at the facility or connected with it. That was not our experience. You put together your own games with other people there.

Spent 5 weeks here in Jan/Feb and was extremely pleased with our accommodations. The "Casa" is gorgeous with a great swimming pool and wonderful BBQ area where the bi-weekly potluck dinners were held.

John, Rosa, Katherine and staff have a great way of fostering a sense of "Familia" amongst the guests. Daily housekeeping and fresh bread rolls (Bolio) are delivered daily in time for the tennis players to depart.

There are three floors of rooms each offering different benefits. The ground floor suites are convenient to the pool and ideal for anyone wishing to avoid stairs. The second floor suites have a wonderful shared balcony overlooking the BBQ area with views to the water and sunsets. Suites on both the first two floors (#1-7) tend towards more traditional mexican accommodation - Nice, comfortable but not over the top.

The top floor (third) is newer and the suites are more spacious and luxurious. There are two 2 bedroom and 2 one bedrooms and all have wonderful private balconies offering gorgeous sunset views and tremendous breezes.

The location is at the edge of town a 30 peso taxi or 15 min walk to the centre of town. Of course you can use the complimentary bikes. The casa is on the street fronting the beach but is not beach front. That being said there are chairs and great umbrellas and the staff will set these up on the beach (just ask Katherine). The nice thing about being away from the center of town is that there are virtually no pestering vendors on the beach.

Melaque is a wonderful lil town that blends tourism with local culture. It is not developed - no chain hotels, no McDonalds. Many roads are unpaved and you can find food from street tacos to fine dining. There is one reliable but busy ATM bank.

We'll be back!

Only had time for a one week visit to el Palmar this trip, still had lots of fun! John put us in room # 5 which was perfect and greeted us with a cold cerveza. We met some old friends and enjoyed the Wednesday potluck meal, got to play lots of tennis and rode the bikes into downtown Melaque in the tropical heat.

We've been coming to El Palmar for many years now and it never disappoints. All units on 1st and 2nd floors have kitchen facilities, en suite baths while the 3rd floor has 4 fully equipped apartments. There is a nice pool, and an outdoor patio grill for use by guests. Cleaning service is daily except for Sundays and fresh-baked local bread is delivered to your door daily except Sundays. On many Wednesday evenings, guests are invited to participate in a potluck dinner followed by live music.

There are 4 clay courts nearby and El Patlmar's owner takes guests there and back by van for drop-in tennis matches. Melaque is not a luxury resort town which makes it a wonderful place to visit.

We stayed at el Palmar for the eighth time in eleven years of travelling to Mexico-there is a reason for continuing to return to el Palmar, it is a blast! These words come to mind: Sunshine, clean rooms, great site, tennis, bikes, friends, camaraderie, pot luck, restaurants, bollios, Oso & Gatoito--and, "feels like home...." John, Rosa, Kathy and staff continue to do a great job of looking after us!

We had a great time at El Palmar. As advertised, the tennis, and the hospitality were all amazing, but what we weren't expecting was that we were right next door to the best part of the beach. Quiet, beautiful, and endlessly relaxing. We would definitely go back!
