I stayed in this Hotel during the WEF 2014. I changed to the Alpina in Fanas after an unpleasant one night say stay at another Hotel in Bad Ragaz in which my company had originally booked me in: I was surprised and impressed by the warmth and the kindness of the owners, especially by Shibu. The infrastructure is no five stars hotel (no frills like a spa or personal butlers here) but a cosy clean room like in a traditional swiss style chalet. The shower and the bathroom is shared with the others rooms (every room has its own sink though) and I felt really comfy for 5 days here. The free wlan throughout the premises is sure a plus, but as said, the best thing here is the human factor. Great, great place here!

Wow! Amazing stay at Guesthouse Alpina in Fanas, in the canton of Graubunden, Switzerland. Exactly what i was looking for - a short break in the mountains where i could be immersed in nature and soak up some proper fresh air. I spent most of my stay around Fanas village, as didn't feel the need to travel far (although i noticed good transport links to local villages, ski slopes and bigger resorts).

Mountain views from the guesthouse balcony and bedrooms are stunning, each day the same view of the Prattigau Valley looks different as the light alters; i experienced some of the most vivid sunsets in my life!!! Surrounding countryside changes around this time of year; flowers sprout up, grass appears where snow melts. Its a feast to the senses, all sorts of aromas present themselves, cut grass, farmyard, firewood....

Many hiking opportunities on Alpina's doorstep. Big contrast between green farming countryside lower down the mountain, and the deep snow further up, accessable by cable car right next to Alpina. Up top its really peaceful, a paragliders paradise. Didn't try paragling but apparently it's possible to have a go. The mountain opposite the guesthouse has skiing slopes which I explored, and there is ground for tobogganing, snowshoeing and cross country-skiing.

Verena, Shibu and Valerie, were welcoming and created a warm atmosphere. Cosy bedrooms with nice Swiss details, real tree trunk bedside tables, and lavender from the garden. Menu of traditional Swiss and Indian food, very high quality, delicious, and presented well. They have a real genuine love of food, and healthy eating. Highlights include Swiss Capun, a traditional dish that tasted fantastic.

I was travelling alone and it worked well. It would also be great for quiet romantic break, snowy adventure sports break or a quiet health retreat as they also offer Ayurveda treatments.

We very much enjoyed our 2 week stay at Gasthaus Alpina through workaway. The accommodation was cozy and comfortable, and the food was fantastic with many authentic curries on the menu. We enjoyed relaxing in the guesthouse and also visiting nearby Davos where we had the opportunity to hire ski's. We also hiked around the area and went up in the cable car for some wonderful views of the alps. On Friday nights there is a local band playing traditional swiss instruments in the guesthouse which was a pleasure to watch. We couldn't recommend this guesthouse more highly for a relaxing holiday.

Me and my boyfriend stayed in the Guesthouse Alpina more than one month through the workaway. We are very lucky about this occasion. Big thanks for Shibu, Verena and Valerie for all care. Fanas is nice small village in the beautiful clean nature. Walking around is like paradise. Trip by cableway is realy good choice and possibillity to try paragliding also. I hope we try it next time, because i belive it is not last time here for us. Guesthouse Alpina is perfect place with friendly atmosphere, with beautiful accomodation and so delicious cuisine. We are very lucky that we choose this place for our first experience with workaway. Thank you so much all of you. And i can recommend it to all.

I stayed at Gasthaus Alpina for over a week during July. Its an excellent value place , and set in a pretty village not far from Davos. The rooms are clean, staff are friendly, and the food is excellent. The views are magnificent !

It is ideal for enthusiastic hill walkers and cyclists, or those 'just wishing to get away from it all'
Its not suitable for pubbers and clubbers.

There is public bus directly outside the guesthouse which links regularly to the excellent swiss train system.

I will hopefully return in the winter and see what the skiing is like.. if its as good as the summer, then I cant wait !

I really enjoyed my stay here .Me and my husband stayed here for my birthday . The dinner we had was so delicious. Very clean place indeed. There are couple of hiking trails near the hotel which is a plus .The owners are so kind and welcoming. The best part for me is the pygmy goats and chickens in the petting zoo . If you want a nice country side experience, this is the place . Thank you to owners , who made my birthday so special .

I've just completed a short break in Fanas, Switzerland and I stayed for a few nights at Guesthouse Alpina. From the start I had a very warm welcome, and felt looked after for the entire stay. The food from the restaurant was amazing, especially the lamb curry, and the traditional Swiss rosti was also great.

The guesthouse is situated next door to a cable car so its ideal for those wanting to go hiking, exploring, or carrying out some other outdoor activities. From the village you get stunning views across the mountains, and there are some really enjoyable walks right from the guesthouse.

Rooms were clean and felt very Swiss, with wooden furnishings throughout. I loved the "small touches" throughout the guesthouse, which helped to make it feel very homely.
There was nothing better than watching the sunset from the balcony enjoying the good food, or waking up to some stunning mountain views in the morning.

So overall, a great place to stay, set in a very beautiful location!

My wife and I spent three nights at Gasthaus Alpina over New Year's holiday. It was a wonderful weekend! The hotel and Fanas offer the opportunity to get away from the intensity of... whatever is intense in your life. There is lots to do! We took some wonderful walks through the snow, took the cable car to Eggli and had a great day there, enjoying the sun. There were lots of people paragliding from Eggli to Fanas, and that was way better than watching TV! We especially enjoyed the quiet, quiet nights available in this picture postcard of a village.

About the Gasthaus Alpina... Simple, clean and lovely rooms. Very reasonable prices for Switzerland. The food is wonderful. We loved Shibu's Indian meals, and the soups and Swiss meals were great as well. Know that the meals are prepared from scratch, so take a book with you, or order and take a little walk. A tip for you: Along with cooking and running the hotel, Shibu happens to be an accomplished Ayurveda Massage Therapist. Take advantage of his skills. I've been a Trager® Practitioner for 35 years, and I loved his work!

We enjoyed our stay, and because it's easily reached from Zurich, will get back there for a weekend or two this coming summer.

I had the occasion to volunteer at the super sweet and authentic guesthouse up over the clouds, where the sky is always blue, the sun is always shinning, and the nature is always so green and luscious. I was teaching yoga and cooking vegan food in exchange of a sweet single bedroom and some delicious indian food prepared by Shibu, the chef of the guesthouse, a beautiful soul with a great sense of humor. Such a perfect place for a retreat, as they also offer ayurvedic treatments, in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. If you are looking for a traditional authentic swiss chalet with friendly atmosphere, great food and peace, you should definitively come by :)

After spending couple months in a busy city, Fanas was just the kind of place I was looking for. The beautiful scenery, friendly people and the clean mountain air provided the perfect ending for my long trip. The village with those traditional wooden Swiss houses is just like from a postcard and around it you'll find many trails to follow and explore the nature.

The guest house is clean and comfortable place to stay and the best thing is that you're already on the mountain; I recommend taking your breakfast up to the balcony to enjoy the views while you sip your morning coffee.

If you like nature and hiking or just want to have a real Swiss experience, pack up your suitcase and head up to this place. Along with New Zealand this was one of the most amazing places I have visited.
