Wonderful hotel. We stayed there over a weekend in February. Very nice natural wood architecture and decor. The main building was built 5 years ago, and the 2nd building was built last year. The fitness room is well supplied and has an amazing view out over the valley. You can walk about 1/2 block down to access the nordic ski trails (about 12 km total). The food was exceptional - a 6 course dinner included in the half board. Each course had two different items we could pick from, plus an extensive salad, bread and vegetable bar. We have some food allergies and while they didn't cook us anything special, they were quite kind about leaving sauces off etc. so we had plenty we could eat. On the negative side, the rooms were too dark after the sun went down as they don't have many lights in them. You can tell the hotel is trying to conserve electricity, but in my opinion they've gone too far on how dark the rooms are. (The rooms are fine in the daylight with the sun up as there are enough windows to let light in.). We only speak English and the staff was quite nice about it (we have experienced at other places in this part of Italy where the staff at hotels and restaurants are not very nice if you can't speak Italy or German). We did not do any of their planned activities. Seems like there are a lot of hiking trails around this area. We would definitely love to come back to this hotel and area.

This hotel has a very cozy vibe and there are a lot of places to relax. Our room was also really pretty and clean. The food was amazing. There are also a lot of opportunities for hiking and the views are absolutely breathtaking. There are opportunities to take part in different activities every day. Truly one of a kind experience. However, if you don't speak German or Italian, be prepared to use Google translate a lot.

Thank you very much for this beautifully done review. We are really pleased that you were able to really enjoy your holiday. Of course we try very hard to speak a little better English - but unfortunately it is not so easy for us, nevertheless thank you for the well-intentioned criticism! Maybe we will find the time to do a group course :-) We would be very happy to welcome you again in beautiful South Tyrol! All the best and best wishes to you, Family Volgger and the whole team!

I stayed at the hotel with my daughter and some friends for 3 days in February 2023. The hotel is located in a very beautiful landscape and has comfortable and nice rooms. The staff of the bar and restaurante are very friendly and professional. We booked a room for my 6 year old daughter and me. They made me pay for my daughter as if she were an adult, in total 440 euros per night, 220 euros for me and 220 euros for my daughter. At the reception they told me that normally children under 14 are free but as there was only one adult in the room I had to pay for the child as if she were an adult. Honestly, the price for the child seemed abusive to me, especially when my daughter was eating chicken fingers for dinner. Another problem is that the indoor pool was a bit cold and the water was uncomfortable. They have another outdoor pool with very nice views of the mountains, but precisely the first night the water was cold because they had a technical incident and we could not enjoy it. Finally, we had an incident in the sauna as well. I went into the sauna with a friend and we were both in our swimming costumes. A hotel worker suddenly came into the sauna to scold us for wearing our swimming costumes and made us take them off. We took it off and he came back into the sauna to tell us that we had to hang our swimming costumes outside. All said in a very weird tone. I reported this complaint to the reception at the hotel but they did not care and they find all very correct. Basically, I don't recommend it to travel with children. The kids playground is also very limited.

Thank you very much for your review here on Trip Advisor. We would like to comment on your review as follows: As you can read on our website and as we communicated on the confirmation you received, children's rates are valid for two full-paying guests in the room. As your stay took place during the high season, we could not grant a discount on the price. You received and confirmed this offer before your arrival. In addition, we showed you the invoice statement upon your departure and asked you if everything was in order and you had a pleasant stay. You then answered that everything was very nice and left. We apologize for the incident in the outdoor swimming pool. A pump was defective here, but we had it repaired the same evening. However, we can very well understand that you did not have a pleasant swimming experience there. The indoor pool is 30°C. Most guests find this temperature sufficient. Our sauna area is a nude area. On the one hand, it is a hygienic question, because bathing clothes, which are often made of synthetic materials, can emit fumes in the heat, which is not particularly pleasant for the people sweating with them, and can even be harmful to health. On the other hand, clothing prevents the effect of the sauna, namely sweating and evaporation and thus the body's own cooling process, by collecting sweat in the swimwear. The dripping wet clothes also provide a prime breeding ground for bacteria and can possibly lead to infections. There are also signs everywhere in our sauna area stating that you should only enter the area naked. If our sauna masters have addressed you in an unpleasant tone of voice, we would like to apologize. On the day you reported your deficiencies about the swimming pool to the reception, they immediately informed the caretaker. The caretaker took care of the further course of action. Unfortunately, such technical faults cannot always be rectified in a short time. However, we would like to apologize for this as well. We hope that you were able to enjoy your holiday with us at the Gassenhof and that we were able to clarify the misunderstandings and ambiguities. We would be very happy to welcome you again soon. Kind regards Hotel Gassenhof

Beautiful hotel with lot of wood inside after renovation, rooms top clean, pool and sauna area fantastic just with one disadvantage - too small if the house is really occupied, too few chairs and sauna opening at 1 p.m. by grey foggy rainy November weather is not acceptable.

Great hotel, set in a lovely valley perfect for cross country skiing and hiking. The rooms are spacious, very clean and the staff incredibly helpful. The food, included in the price of the room (halfboard) is the real killer: both breakfast and dinner are lavish. The quality, quantity and presentation are impeccable, mixing both traditional and innovative cuisine. The spa is also great.

It's a great hotel, the greatest I have visited in my life. It's a hotel were you can feel the tradions of South Tyrol. Food is excellent, they use mainly local high quality products and also such as self-made marmelades. Rich breakfast buffet, with loads of different types of food. Prices are ok for what you get, even if extras are quite expensive. Great wellness center, even if some of the guests were quite loud in spite it was asked and written to be quiet. Relax room near the children pool is not a great choice. Nice area, for hiking, cross country, skiing, also well served by public transport. Staff is really nice, even if sometimes a bit "too nice" and at the bar some locals make sometimes stupid jokes in German about the guests (I understand German).

Excellent hotel, with terrific service, beautiful food, very clean. We spent a week in July 2014 enjoying magnificent scenery and nice walks through a nearby forest. Our Junior Suite was spacious and very comfortable with two bathrooms, shower and Jacuzzi bathtub.
I recommend it highly.

Sud-Tyrol welcoming attitude, enriched by peculiar sense of elegance for the details, is known worldwide. This very typical, elegant and friendly hotel is located two-thirds up the Ridanna/Ridnaun Valley, not more than 10 kms from the motorway exit of Vipiteno-Sterzing (very easy to reach, still "remote") on the valley road which is dead-end (not much traffic).
The welcoming is warm, rooms are spotless, bathrooms are a little too small if compared to the overall setting. The one in our room had a very little shower only, not a bathtub. Rear side rooms have a limited view on other houses (typical and nice, with balconies full of flowers in season) and on one side of the valley. Rooms on the front-end have a view on the road and the other side of the valley. I would suggest requesting a rear side room, second (and last) floor.
Spa area is very nice and the swimming-pool and jacuzzi are ok, quite big for the dimensions of the hotel and calm. A part from swimming trunks you are kindly provided with all that you need to stay in this relax area. Very good for kids. We did not enjoy any of the proposed treatments (extra) but I am sure they are very ok.
The restaurant, in style, is very welcoming (your name is written on a little stone placed on your table) and with ample spaces. Breakfast is fully ok and among the typical and vast selection of continental and English style meals you can treat yourself with traditional (and abundant) food. Cannot comment on main meals since we were on B/B. However, we appreciated the daily "news" left on the breakfast table that, a part from the info on the food of the day, report on weather, opportunities and other useful informations.
In general, info on available activities in the area is very well cured. Staff can provide additional details, if needed.
The hotel is perfectly located for many mountain-type excursions. We strongly recommend the visit to the old (now closed) mine of "Monteneve/Schneeberg", really a five star experience, especially for kids.
Prices are moderate for the area and this type of hotels.

Great hotel, from 'welcome to the wellness area, all really cared for in detail. The only note on which I would give advice to improve is breakfast, since it is mainly based on salty, sweet is very scarce, so I would recommend for those who love the Italian breakfast the addition of cakes (strudel type etc...) that should be at least in a 4-star superior hotel.
For the rest nothing to say but I would improve this aspect
