The most comfortable and peaceful night of sleep I have had in a long time. A stunning and secluded location, complimented by a lush forest approach road. I walked peacefully for hours in what is one of the last remnants of Sri Lanka’s pure primary rainforest. The Sinharaja Rainforest Ecolodge provided me with an opportunity to switch-off, wind-down and connect one-to-one with nature. I woke up to the sound of birds, and fell asleep to the sounds of insects, without the need for a fan or air conditioning. That’s real luxury. I was lucky to be the only guest at the property during my stay. Kind and humble staff welcomed me, they were knowledgeable about the Ecolodge and its sacred surrounding environment. The carefully restored and consciously placed container room provided me all the necessary comforts and modern conveniences, an ample balance of sheltered and open-air spaces. The views from the container-room tempted me into the green beyond, so I barely spent time inside. In the evening I enjoyed the surrounding views while seated by a cinnamon-wood fire burning slowly, keeping me company and cozy. I thoroughly enjoyed the guided forest trail excursions. My knowledgeable chaperons Nimesh and Jagath mastered their duties naturally, with excellence and diligence- making sure we respected the sacred forest as we spent hours walking under the canopy, alongside waterfalls and in between leopard footprints. This is the place for anyone seeking a real natural getaway, where light pollution and noise pollution are minimal, the air is fresh and where the climate is comfortable year-round. I would recommend spending at least three nights here to fully switch off and re-connect with nature- but be warned, it will be hard to leave! A big thank you to the General Manager Mr. Niran Ratwatte and his team for being such warm, friendly and caring hosts.

This was in my list of places to experience for a long time and had to opportunity just this April. It's a well designed eco friendly resort, right at the edge of Sinharaja rainforest. The rainforest trail was a great experience for the kid, but unfortunately we had to cut it short due to rain. Trekking in the rain amongst leeches was an "unexpectedly" a memorable experience for my 9 years old :-) She definitely wants to come back, and wants to go trekking in the rain once again. The road up to the hotel is decent, but very narrow and bendy. It's navigatable on a less crowded days, but we went on a long weekend. There were too many vehicles coming to visit Patna, which is located on the same route. Had several tough situations giving way to on-coming vehicles in that narrow bendy road. If you are visiting during a crowded season, my advice is to book a Safari cab from the hotel to drive you up from a car park below. Anyways, driving on those "hair curls bends" was another experience of a life time. Hotel service is good, and our guide for the trek was awesome! He is well educated about the bio diversity of the forrest and had a wonderful support. Only part I didn't like was the location of the chalet (no 6) we got. It was right in the bottom of the slope and the view from the room was not so great compared to those which are on the topper section of the hill. Overall, a great experience and recommend for all!

Our family had a wonderful 3ay/2night experience at this wonderful eco resort in March 2021. Starting from the booking process, all the staff in every department was very friendly and helpful. The journey from Colombo was a bit far. We took the Colombo - Matara Expressway and our exit was Imaduwa. But we enjoyed the long journey. As we requested their shuttle service from the entrance, , it was wonderful as we all could enjoy the trek of 9 kms from the starting point up to the resort without any hazel as we could watch the surrounding well. The reception staff was very good and all the necessary Covid guidelines were adhered to. We were given one of the best cabins and could see the ecology from all sides of the cabin. The cabins were very comfy with all the necessary amenities with lovely views from all sides. As my husband was a great bird watcher who was keen on photographing also was lucky to see the much awaited Sri Lankan Blue Magpie which is not very common to see even there. He was taken by Mr. Jagath who was a very experienced person in finding rare birds and other species. Also we could see the purple faced leaf monkey who was comfortably sleeping on a tree in front of the reception. We went on the water trail trek. We were taken by Gayathri who was experienced in explaining the flora and fauna of the area. She was very friendly and kind. It ended up at the point where 2 water falls got together and start flowing as one. We also plunged in that cool water pool for an hour or so. We got the greatest opportunity of receiving a tingling massage from the dozens of toothless fish in those water steams as well. Oh… It was wonderful. We also got the opportunity to go on a jeep trip to the top of the forest area to watch the canopy of the rain forest with different levels/types of trees grown there. The scene was marvelous. The restaurant was fine with a very warm friendly staff. They adhered to all the necessary Covid health guidelines. There were different menus for all 3 meals. The lunch was marvelous with many Sri Lankan vegetable dishes. Finally to say the whole journey was wonderful from the star to the end an much more to add. But I suggest everybody to visit this wonderful resort and to get their own experiences.

My husband and I have just returned from a 4 night trip to The Rainforest Ecolodge. The journey there from Colombo is long but the scenery is beautiful along the way. Upon arriving we were immediately enveloped in the peace and quiet and sounds of nature. Covid regulations were strictly adhered to with temperature check, sanitiser and forms to fill in. The lodges are truly unique - converted shipping containers which actually look perfectly at home sitting among the tea plants and the forest. The bed was large and comfortable, the rain shower was great and there was a plentiful supply of coffee, tea and water provided. We were also given a huge basket of fruit. The lodge had opening windows and doors all around so you can have fresh air and a breeze flowing through. We were worried there might be mosquitoes but actually there weren’t! There is a nice seating area inside and an outside terrace area also to sit and watch the birds and the wildlife. Our only comment on that would be that it would have been lovely to have 2 chairs instead of only one on the terrace. The food was fantastic. We enjoyed every meal especially the tuna steak which was as good or better than any we’ve had in 5 star hotels in Colombo. Again Covid regulations were carefully followed with sanitiser, masked waiters and good distance between tables. The views from the restaurant and the bar are breathtaking. We took 3 trips, 2 treks into the rainforest and 1 jeep tour. Walking in the rainforest was an amazing experience (once you accept the leeches, leech socks are thankfully provided by the hotel). Our knowledgeable guide, Nimesh was great and made sure we had a safe but exciting and enjoyable time. Aside from the truly beautiful scenery, the sheer tranquility of the place and the fascinating wildlife the important thing to say is how wonderful all the staff are. Without exception every one was so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. There was a definite feeling that they all love the place and want you to have the best experience. Our thanks to Niran and his team, we had the best time.

The key attraction of the hotel is the location. On top of a mountain in the middle of the Sinharaja forest. If you are looking for a cosy stay surrounded by nature, this is the spot! Heads up on the road to the hotel, its about a 1 hour rough ride up the hill, so if you going in a car be cautions and my advice is NOT to travel at night. The food was good, it was a set menu but had variety of choices. The trek was great and educational, had a lovely waterfall - highlight of the trek. ( Be careful of Leeches, take Siddhalepa or Dettol water with you) Overall great stay, perfect for couples, good food and can have a relaxing time!
