I stayed here in September as part of a group walking holiday. I Really liked the atmosphere in the place. My room was basic but everything worked and it was clean and comfortable. Very low key in terms of customer service but always someone around when needed. Quite basic at breakfast time. No lifts and plenty of stairs. Close to the railway station so quite a lot of noise from that, but this is kind of inescapable in Bonassola and anywhere in Cinque Terre. Walking distance to railway station, restaurants, bars and beach. Would recommend this place
Hosts are only motivated by money. The noise from trains means you need to have windows closed & aircon doesn’t operate so you can’t sleep- and that’s in October. There is obviously a main ‘switch’ to activate aircon however management pretended they had no idea what guests were talking about. They are not really hosts just ghosts who wander about and extremely disinterested in anything to do with hospitality. Included breakfast was poor and minimal. We paid top money for very poor service. Worse is to come....I popped back to get something from our room - thought I’d climbed enough stairs and unlocked our room door - horror as it was not our room!! Wrong floor - mentioned the security heads up to our family group. When arriving back later after dinner I was able to unlock our other family room door - obviously they were horrified at the lack of safety, Don’t stay at Hotel Pensione Moderna - they are not interested in guests, only what income they can earn from your stay which is not safe.…
A great find! Only a very short walk to the center of town, the Moderna provided all that an upmarket, budget minded traveller would want. Sure, the trail tracks (and therefore the noise generated) are close, but the trains don't run during late night/early morning hours. Spotlessly clean, great breakfast, cheery helpful staff, all in something of an olde worlde setting. I'll be back!! Many thanks to all the staff.
My family and I stayed for three nights in mid July 2017. The Ferrari family who run the hotel were very welcoming, treating us as returning friends rather than customers. They moved rooms around to allow us to be next to our daughters. The hotel itself is beautiful, a real gem architecturally with an amazing outdoor restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Bonasolla is much nicer than the overcrowded towns of the Cinque Terra and is definitely worth visiting
It's a cheap & cheerful basic hotel ,very close to the train station! Which although very convenient is an appreciable negative! I liked the place & people & for an overnight stop it was more than adequate. I have to admit If we'd stayed for a week the noise would become an issue!
The hotel is next to the railway ( there is noise), only a few minutes to the beach and the local supermarket. It is family run and all the staff were friendly and helpful. I stayed in a single room with a good size bed and air con. The breakfast was adequate, typical of a small Italian hotel, meat, cheese, cereal, yogurts and pastries. The evening meal, though a limited menu was home-made and very good. If the weather is good meals are served in the garden.
We just checked in and the hotel is awful! If we could get our money back, we would certainly leave! The pictures on booking.com are NOT what you get! Parking? Haphazard in the front garden! So disappointed, especially since this is our first trip here! The only advantage is it is close to train.
First, the good. The Hotel is located right across the street from the train and close by to everything (it's a small town) so it's convenient. It is a really good location to explore the Cinque Terre Villages. The lady that work at the front desk is really nice and helpful. The breakfast was included and was typical of Italy, it was good. The not so good would be our room. I'm sure they are not all like this but ours was very small and did not look like the pictures I saw before booking. The bed was uncomfortable and the bathroom, although clean, smelled horrible. It was necessary to keep the window open. If you need a place to crash for a night, fine, but if you are looking to stay a few days I would probably try somewhere else or at the very least take a look at your room before you commit.…
The hotel is conveniently situated a few steps from the train station and five minutes by foot from the gorgeus beach of Bonassola. The staff is really doing everything to make you feel at home and will help you with good advices of what to do and where to go. Breakfast was nice with home made cakes and also fruit and youghurt. The evening restaurant served excellent food and wine and was really good value for money. Additionally the hotel have bikes to be used for free which is perfect for getting around in the area of Bonassola and go visit neighbouring villages. It could be good to bring some earplugs if you think the trains passing any tme during night and day will disturb you. The room we had didn't have air conditioning but a fan which we didn't use since we prefere to sleep with the winfows open.…
This is a nice and cozy family owned hotel with a very friendly staff. The location is great for Cinque Terre exploration; take the local train and 10 minutes later you'll be at Monterosso. We had two rooms for two nights and we were happy with everything. The only drawbacks are that not all rooms have A/C and that the hotel (like everything else in Bonassola) is close to the railway, which means that some noise is to be expected also during sleeping time. But all in all a very pleasant stay! The dinner (cena) can be recommended and the Minestrone is wonderful.
