Cannot describe the area as arrived on a wet and windy evening. We didn't stay here but met friends for dinner. We all enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and the food was freshly cooked and well prepared.

Nice quaint pub in pleasant surroundings, perfect after a long walk across the nearby fells. Food is of good quality and a nice menu. Service good and friendly staff. Nice to see that the landlord caters for dog owners.

The location is lovely , under Sale Fell in the northern Lakes. I had fish and mashed potatoes with one of the nicest tartare sauces I have tasted. A nice meal , little to criticise, friendly and helpful staff. Altogether a relaxed pleasant evening. The duck confit was a little expensive is the worst that can be said .

We stayed in a "standard " room which is currently £140 per couple for B&B. The Inn is an old hostelry and sits adjacent to Lake Bassenthwaite with the A66 between. The main dual carriageway barriers now prevent a walk to the lakeside. Roadwork is still in progress. Immediate impressions...... Lovely location and garden. Historical building and decoration. Very clean.... More

It was a rainy day (they get a few of these in the Lake District!). It could have been the worst day of our week's holiday. But visiting the Pheasant Inn for lunch turned it into one of our best days. We ate in the bar - so comfortable, relaxing and quiet. There are other areas to eat as well.... More

We had a short break here in early August and loved it. The manager/owner and his staff were welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. This is an old building so of course there are some minor maintenance deficiencies but nothing at all that detracted from our stay. We had a 'superior' room called 'Applethwaite' which was very comfortable and had... More

Went for Sunday dinner today after a walk. Heard and read good things about the place. The Pub side is very old and charming, perfect spot to stop for a drink. Stopped there few weeks ago and service in the bar was top notch (2 young guys). Today we managed to get a table for Sunday dinner. Service seemed bit... More
