I thought that the ground staff was fantastic at the gran melia. The red level staff was 1/2 good. They could be friendlier. The pool bar staff was horrendous as was the wait for both drinks and food. I don't know what 4 star resort takes 45 minutes to make a salad for lunch. If I were the gran melia...

Large resort with huge pool and nice beach area. Common areas were very nice and clean, spacious, lots of places to relax. A bit off the beaten path though, cabs were $20 to get to the main road for other restaurant choices. All the staff I met were very nice and helpful. Breakfast buffet was good, the dinner buffet was...

The entrance in the room lobby need more cleaning, they look dirty and with stain. The gardens were in poor condition, dead plants other sick. The day we left,(02/20) a contractor was there doing repair to the sprinklers and cutting the grass. Been in a tropical Island, the gardens must be in top shape

Great Hotel with a friendly staff. We stayed in the red level with an oceanfront room. There is an adult only pool for the red level which was great for a romantic getaway. Everything was lovely. I highly recommend this hotel.

My husband and I stayed at the Gran Melia and had a wonderful time. The room was beautiful and very clean, the staff was very very pleasant and helpful. The young lady at the front desk named Stephenie was extremely helpful. Two thumbs up for her! I would recommend the resort to all my friends and family.

My husband and I stayed at the Gran Melia for our one year anniversary/Valentines Day. It was definitely more than I expected. This is a very large property, very well kept, beautifully decorated and landscaped. There are palm trees throughout the resort and along the beach area. With all the hammocks, lounges and Bali beds, it is hard not to...

The public spaces (lobby and pool area) are quite pretty and the rooms and bathroom are spacious. Those are my only compliments. 5 to 7 minute walk or golf cart ride to your bungalow room. Lousy mattress. Food in the 4 restaurants mediocre at best and way over-priced. Poor quality plastic lounge-chairs by the pool and on the beach. Quite...

Spend the extra and go for the red level. The private pool alone is worth it. I spend 4 days with my wife alone and really appreciated the privacy and tranquility of the red level. Had big problems over at the mirador grill. Learned the hard way its better to order room service for lunch, they bring it right to...

After looking for a place for me and my boyfriend in the US due to passport issues, I came across Gran Melia. The resort looked lovely so we went ahead and booked for a week. Red Level is the way to go! When we arrived, we were greeted with a welcome drink which was nice after hours of traveling. Danny...

PLEASE HELP LOTS OF QUESTIONS!!!!!

I was able to purchase this hotel as a Groupon deal for my best friend's 40th birthday. We aren't traveling until June 18th and this will be both of our first times in PR. The photos took my breath away and the cost was reasonable enough for me to surprise her with the gift after having some pretty rough times lately. I am really hoping this much needed getaway gives us a chance to escape the blues.

I know about the deposit per night, but usually deposits are returned unless you use them. However it seems like people are stating that they are getting charged for ludicrous items. (Towels cost what?) Or complaining about the treatment and true condition of the property. Then some are saying its a dream come true.

We don't expect million dollar service, just a good, peaceful beautiful time. Without me feeling the need to hide a credit card statement from my husband. We are extremely excited to be taking a trip together (having our own families and work makes that hard). Some person even said they were charged an upgrade fee of $3k?!! That is what scared me enough for someone who has been here to hopefully set my mind at ease.

What is included in Red Level? Is it a better option than paying a la carte? We are blessed to have breakfast included in the Groupon (thanks!) but it seems the Red Level doesn't do much more than that?

We've been hoping to come to Puerto Rico for years. Any advice would be truly appreciated. This place is very very pretty. I truly hope its the paradise it appears to be in the photos! The pool alone is amazing!!

Also more about the beach? Do swim shoes help with the rocks or don't bother. How about excursions (budget friendly).

Thanks to everyone who replies in advance. I will be responding after our return.

Happy Travels!
