What an experience on our second day in Sri Lanka. A remote retreat in serene tranquility where one has to forget about modern day life and yet providing perfectly comfortable accommodation ( both a day and night hut ) with flushing toilet and shower concealed in a tree trunk despite the lack of electricity or modern building materials - really back to nature. Three excelent meals a day provided in dining hut overlooking a lake that was a haven for birds and animals although at the time of our visit very low on water. The second lake which was dry normally provides excelent opportunity for swimming, kayaking and canoeing in natural surroundings Stunning early morning bird watching walk, tour of the complex and extensive grounds plus a cookery lesson in the resorts thatched kitchen complex where all the food was prepared over open fires and a night walk to view the wildlife in the camp all added to the experience. We also found time to relax and take in the true tranquility. A very enterprising project that is employing a great number of locals and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and we hope that this venture thrives. We would thoroughly reccomend this experience to others and we were particularly impressed by the enthusiasm and professionalism of the entire staff who could not do enough for us to ensure that our stay was memorable.

The mudhouse is a special place, very much off the beaten track. We had the pleasure to spend 2 nights in the original mudhouse, including a treehouse. Because of the remote location you pay an all-iin price, but with that you get all meals and snacks, bikes, birding tours, night walks and temple trip. Our kids simply loved it. They enjoyed riding around the huge property on their bikes, interacting with the staff, and taking outdoor (cold) showers. Don’t expect airco (no windows), or a pool (rather lake), but do expect a genuine nature experience, super friendly staff and great food.

Best part of our holiday. A fantastic place to relax, unwind, connect with nature and truly get to know a part of Sri Lanka. It feels like a real adventure, sleeping in the open huts, being close to nature. But also felt very safe and secure and mosquito nets for the beds kept everything comfortable. Lovely staff and lovely food (especially for vegetarians). Now has some electricity, to add to the comfort, but retains the eco-experience. Loved the outside (but private) shower. Whole place was incredibly welcoming. Thoroughly recommended for a wind down period

The bombings have had a terrible effect on these places...very few people stayed here while we did. The food was excellent! The accommodation was basic with stunning views over a nearly dried up lake as it was the dry season. Getting out of bed at 5.30am to birdwatch with Douglas was delightful...seeing so many varieties, pelicans, ibises, egrets, kites and eagle being the first set I can mention but many more were seen. We didnt see a Loris when we went out once dark but the thrill of the chase was good enough. The Loris walk was free, as was the birdwatching. Other places on our travels charged 37$ per person to do the same. Mmmm... A trip out to the Anamaduwa temple is worth doing...once again free. The view after walking up 120 steps is worth the effort. A truly wonderful three days here and a great first main part to our holiday. Such a shame they are struggling filling the place as it deserves to be full every night. the restaurant waiter was so good as was Shoba and Douglas. The chef was always asking what they could do to make us happy. I unreservedly recommend this place as part of your stay in Sri Lanka. Paradise....

The Mud House complex is built in mud and daub with thatch roofs in traditional old Sri Lankan village style. We stayed in a pole house using innovative architectural techniques. Amazing skills and very natural bush materials used. Very comfortable although don't expect five star luxury. Our bathroom, while private was under the trees which was fun. Mud House is for people wanting a eco natural experience immersed in nature. Mud House is next to two lakes which attract a myriad of bird life. It was great watching nature from the comfort of our house and the restaurant. Food. Service and activities were first class. Make sure you visit the nearby ancient Buddhist temple by til tuk or bicycle. And plant your own special tree.
