Right from the location, property, staff, service et all, it was all 5 star rating at Alila. Thank you for your hospitality and warmth. Including those that I may have missed and in no particular order - Arif, Mahmoud, Ranjaray, Abdulla, Rose, Karl, the lady at the spa and yoga session (I am sorry, I forget your name), Tiwi and everyone else - Thank you for making it a perfect birthday getaway.
Unique and stunning location ; the hotel is also a marvel of architecture and beautifully designed with a lot of attention to detail and the materials employed are very qualitative all round- the grounds are extensive with a lovely trail to discover nature ; the staff is very helpful, amicable and discreet ; many activities can be organized to suit individual tastes; this is a very special place for the discerning traveller , probably the best hotel I have ever stayed at;
Alila Jabal Akhdar is a unique small hotel. Truly beautiful and perfectly maintained (would recommend the terrace suites), full of activities, it is possibly the place to stay in the Omani mountains. They could improve food - quality and service - but standard is not bad, just not in line with everything else.
We stayed at the Alila Jabal for 4 nights. We really wanted to love this place, it is a beautiful property, in an amazing location and nicely designed. The view is breathtaking and the property well kept. Unfortunately the service is not what you would expect from a 5* hotel. The staff seemed well intentioned and were consistently nice and polite, however it was a constant struggle with the most simple and basic requests. At meal times drinks took ages, cutlery was never brought, orders never materialized or were brought twice. On the last day I waited 30 minutes for a coffee and eventually gave up. We repeatedly asked not to be brought certain items from the breakfast fixed menu for allergy reasons, this went completely unheard. There were 3 of us but for the first two days I had to keep chasing for a 3rd set of bath towels. We upgraded room just after checking in (the view is too gorgeous not to get a room overlooking the cliff edge), the welcome amenities were never transferred, when some were (after chasing repeatedly) half were missing. The bikes available for guests are broken and dangerous. Please do check them before going on a ride, we found ourselves with no working brakes. Went on the 3 village tour with a guide from the hotel and when our child fell and needed 1st aid the guide did not have a kit with himself or in the car (the compartment in the car was missing the kit entirely, is that even legal?). This was truly unbelievable since the hotel recommends its guests (in print, on the activities brochures) to "carry a 1st aid kit" on trekking walks. The highlights of our stay were the stargazing/archery/geology activities with a lovely young lady (sorry can't remember her name): she was knowledgeable, engaging and cheerful, we were so impressed with her. And Ralph who took us on our second trek was also great! Food was good, besides a few glitches (their pizza is an aberration), especially at dinner we found the short menu very nicely put together, clearly the kitchen staff know what they are doing. The talent and passion of these few people felt wasted and let down by the overall poor experience. Better training would help fix all these issues, since the place is truly amazing. …
fantastic location. we had a great time at Alila with our family of 5 (incl. 3 teenagers). everything was great, except clear understaffing at the restaurant (food is great but we wait far too long) and the hotel did not provide bike rental opportunities (which is a shame in this location). the bikes provided by the hotel were broken and could not be used.
