We just got back from a 9 night stay at The Sands. We were overall VERY satisfied with The Sands. We knew going into it that it was going to be the Ritz Carlton so I don’t think our expectations were unrealistic. It exceeded our expectations. It was very clean, very well kept/manicured lush grounds. Very nice (heated) pool and comfortable pool furniture. The beach at The Sands was very wide. Hemingway’s is one of the nicest outdoor dining places along the beach. The food is very good...not the best I’ve ever had, but very good. Location is really perfect...on the edge of the busy part of Grace Bay but close enough to walk or ride you bike to downtown Grace Bay.

I was nervous about staying here after reading some of the terrible reviews. However, we were very pleasantly surprised. We were in an ocean front two bedroom (bldg 4) and it was HUGE. The view and wrap around porch were amazing. The clientele was mostly families with older kids like us. Check in and check out were easy and fast. Housekeeping was great. Even loaded and/or emptied the dishwasher daily. Very clean property overall. Friendly, helpful staff. Fish and chips at Hemingway’s were our kids’ fave of everywhere we ordered them. We used the complimentary paddle boards and kayaks in front of the hotel. Yes, there were a few small things that could have been improved...interior doors in our unit needed replacing. The water heater tank in the unit only holds 30 gallons ... we’re a family of 5 ... so showers had to be staggered or no hot water. Bath linens could use replacing. (But these things were very minor and didn’t affect our stay). Location and beach were perfect. As far as the bad reviews I read...this property is not a Four Seasons. It’s a nice, low key, very clean condo property in the ideal location great for large families. As long as you’re not expecting 5 star luxury resort service and amenities — this is really great for what it is. I’d compare it to Marriott Vacation Club condos. We would definitely stay here again (as a family). Overall great stay at The Sands!!

I visited Turks & Caicos for the first time this November. Friends who had traveled there before recommended the Sands at Grace Bay, which they had stayed at a few years prior. Upon arrival I was greeted by friendly staff who quickly processed me through checking in, then off to my room I went. First impression of the room upon entry was “old and dated”. The furniture was rickety & worn. The small flat screen TV was propped up on a small table that was too small for it. The bedding and towels looked old and tired. Not something I was expecting, especially at +$200/night. As I attempted to settle in I quickly realized the walls were paper thin as I could clearly hear people in the neighboring room having a regular voice level conversation. During my time there it felt as if I was sharing my room with the neighbors as I could hear every word spoken. The local restaurant on site provided average food, however nothing exceptional as I was led to believe by other reviews. Breakfast was supposed to be amazing, which was nothing better than one would expect from a Denny’s. One evening I elected to get dinner (curry lobster) to go. After picking up the meal I headed back to my room, which was a walk across campus. Upon arrival at my door neither of the two door key cards worked. I then walked across campus to the front desk where they issued two new keys. Walked back to the room & they still didn’t work. At that point I (frustrated) decided to go to the restaurant & ask them to send someone to my room to open it for me. They pointed out that the hotel security guard was standing right there & he could help. He acted as if I was putting him out by asking him to walk to my room, however reluctantly did so. He then tried my key cards, reconfirming they did not work. Apparently the only person with a master key to the rooms was the hotel manager, who only worked days. The security guard made a call to the front desk, then informed me he could do no more & somebody would be by eventually to help. He then just left so he could go back to the restaurant and socialize. I decided at that point to sit outside my room door and eat my dinner while I waited, which was cold by then. Approx 20-30 minutes later the manager showed up. He used his master key to open the door and let me in, then informed me the door lock batteries must have died and a maintenance guy would be by later that night to change them out. Never once did he apologize for me having to spend 1/2 hour running around the resort campus to get replacement keys that did not work, then go look for assistance who ultimately acted as if I was bothering them, then stand outside my room for another 1/2 hour waiting for him. At the very least one would have thought he would have offered to have the restaurant provide a replacement meal, which he saw me eating cold when he eventually arrived. I was completely turned off by the resort staff at that point. The following day I found a wonderful resort just down the beach, so I checked out and moved there for the remainder of my vacation. Under no circumstances could I recommend this run down resort to others.

We were lucky enough to travel to Turks and Caicos 12/20 and it was better than we expected. We have been to many beach resorts, and traveled to different counties to enjoy some sunshine and sand, and this was our favorite trip by far. Very friendly and helpful, low key staff, not stuffy, clean, no hassles from any locals about purchasing their items and felt safe the entire time. It was a total treat, and we can't wait to return!

The Sands is an incredible resort at Turks and Caicos! We originally had planned a 6 day trip and had to extend one day and they easily accommodated us. The women who work at concierge are kind, helpful and always willing to help. The location is great for if you want to go elsewhere for food. I would definitely come back to this resort.
