Perhaps having returned from a 4 star hotel in Mallorca the previous week has made me feel a little harsh about this hotel as the Spanish have had much more experience at keeping international tourists happy. Location is good. 5 minutes walk to the Balaton lake. Building and rooms are fresh , well maintained and clean. There is a terrace bar but no regular waiting staff servicing it , so you have to go into hotel and asked to be served. On one occasion I did this and half an hour later still no one had appeared. The food is very traditional Hungarian food and once again comparing to the choice and quality of the Spanish buffet this was found lacking- simple things like no breakfast tea bags and a small area where food was served resulting in people bumping into each other. The quality of the robes and towels in the room was also poor , they were quite threadbare and had seen better days. There is a very good pool area with steam rooms etc on the ground floor. We all had massages which were ok. I have previously stayed at the Balaton at much cheaper hotels and would go back there in future

Dear angela9,

Thank you for taking your time to share your opinion with us. We'll take your comments into consideration in order to continuously improve the quality of our service.
However, I do not see clearly the link between our Hungarian style buffet and the lack(?) of tea bags. (A wide variety of premium quality Dilmah tea is offered, just next to the coffee machine...).
Nevertheless, let me thank you once more for your feedback. Should you wish to contact me please feel free to write to me at torok.peter@hotelbonvino.hu .

Kind Regards,
Peter Torok

Based on the description of the hotel I expected more. There was nothing wrong with it, I was just expecting more in the way of room and facilities. There is not much of a spa that I could see and the rooms are nice but basic and the pool is indoors.

One concierge in particular went very out of her way to be helpful and the staff in the wine bar were also very helpful. Other than these folk most staff did not speak english and we did not speak Hungarian so that made it a bit difficult.

We did enjoy the local wines and tasting rooms and had several excellent dinners in restaurants in town.

We ended up doing day trips during our stay because we didn't find enough to do in Badasconytomaj. This is not a reflection on the hotel; just a general comment.

The hotel has a perfect location. The wellness was very good, not too corwded. The wine bar was excellent within the hotel with more than 100 extraordinary local wines. The hotel room was quite large but average quality, but the terrace was huge and very good. The catering was also average. Hableány restaurant is situated oppisite to the hotel, operated by Laposa winery, if you go here you must try it!

We wanted to visit Badacsony for some countryside peace and quiet, outdoor activities and wine tasting as part of a special occasion holiday also including Budapest. We chose to stay at Bonvino as a treat because of the rooms, facilities and modern style, and because it was easy for us to deal with them in English on our first trip to Hungary. The spacious two-room suite we were upgraded to with terrace was fantastic, as it gave us lots of room to relax and enjoy our time there in an elegant modern setting. At first we thought it was slightly strange for a high-end hotel to have an evening buffet but the quality of the food was good and it was nice to have the on-site wine bar as well with lots of local choices. The location is outstanding, with beautiful walks and cycles and of course lots of local wine tasting options. We had a wonderful time. Bonvino is unique at the moment as a modern boutique hotel in the area, and this is reflected in their prices - in particular I thought the charges for hire of some quite rusty bikes and a packed lunch were a bit much - but definitely worth thinking about if you are lucky enough not to have to worry about the premium.

Dear J A,

Thank you for this extensive and nice review. We are thrilled you enjoyed your stay in Hungary with us. Thank you also for your nice comments regarding our rooms.
The buffet dinner is quite a standard feature in most of the hotels in Hungary, I'm glad you enjoyed the meals on offer.
We'll look through our bikes to be sure no rusty one will be found amongst them!

We wish you all the best and look forward to see you again!

Kind regards,

Peter Torok

We have returned here after a 4 year break, and we are a bit disappointed. We understand that Covid and after that the war has torn hosptiality services apart quite a bit, but this hotel deserves better. Four years ago this was an oasis in the middle of an albeit developing, but still not very attractive little lakeside wine-themed resort. This place used to be a shining beacon of affordable but outstanding hospitality. The surroundings have still had the aura of the past about them, but this hotel stood out as a great example. Now it is a mere shadow of its past self. Time has passed, the surroundings have developed with a rocketlike speed, but this hotel has not seen even a paintbrush to preserve its quality. In our previous visit in 2018 the service and the kitchen were extraordinary, now they were only mediocre at best. The room was the same, but the beds have become worn, the tapestry ragged, the spacing among the tiles in the flooring of the bathroom were dirty, even moldy at some places. The paint on the wall has seen better days. The aircon works either too loud and warm, or silent and cold. The windows let in a lot of cold air. The sound of the garage door, two floors below our room was very loud, and every morning some other aircon or whatever HVAC unit started working with a gentle, waking hum around 6:30. Probably the fact, that after today, the hotel closes for about two months, didn't help the mood of the staff, but this morning at breakfast they were already halfway out of the place. with the kitchen door ajar, you could hear every word, and it was not very pleasant. So yeah, there are already much-much better places around than this little hotel. It is a pity, seeing such a great value gone to ruin. We will not be returning, spending just a bit more will give you a far better value in the vicinity.

Room Tip: Well, generally avoid the whole place for a few years, it might come back... but if I must say,...
