Like many, we had heard the raves about the Inn, built in a corner of a lovely village at the site of an old gas station garage. The food was all that it was promised to be, with the single exception being a fairly dry and tasteless block of rockfish. The service was seamless, and we enjoyed a visit to the incredible kitchen. The decor is a bit over the top eclectic, but it suited us fine and we especially enjoyed the small back patio with koi pond, which nearly all tables have a view of.

We stayed overnight at the Inn, which was very pleasant and charmingly done up (each room honors a well-known chef or foodie) but not worth the price - which is one reason that a cottage industry has grown up around the Inn in this tiny hamlet. There are plenty of other small B&Bs to stay in.

Breakfast by the patio was exceptionally well done, with a flight of four fruit juices that enables much hilarity in comparing the flavors.

The shopping in this tiny company town is great, with the Inn's own gift shop being one of the best I've seen.

Thank you for staying with us and being our guest in the country. We appreciate your candid comments and are pleased that you enjoyed our sense of luxury, service and cuisine. A Kitchen Tour is an exciting ending to the evening and we're glad you were able to see it.

Visited the Inn for a special anniversary. The service was unmatched byfar of any B&B we have ever stayed. We were welcomed with champagne and given a tour. The afternoon tea was delightful. The 5 course dinner was superb and our menus were personalized. The tour of the kitchen and the kodak moment with the famed, "Patrick", extra special! Our room had the best pillows and feather bed for added comfort. We opted to pay a bit extra and enjoy a fabulous Lobster Omlet for breakfast! Worth every penny! Wonderful gift shop with the best cookies ever. We only regret not buying more and not getting a signature scarf...next time! AND, want to add that room service was available 24/7!

My wife and I returned to the Inn at Little Washington for a three day stay. We had last been there on our 40th wedding anniversary eighteen years ago. It was all we remembered and then some. Everything was better than before, and that is really saying something as we had thought it to be nearly perfect then. The staff, food, rooms, the entire ambiance was outstanding. Dinners were wonderful, the mini menu was superb if you did not want to dine in the dining room, the continental breakfast was as good as any we have ever had, and was far superior to the last visit we had there. Our room was elegant, quirt and super comfortable. The staff was so helpful we were almost embarrassed at how well we were treated, but not quite. My wife had been taken il for one day and they went out of their way to care for her and make her feel as if all was well. The kitchen had been rebuilt since our last trip and it is probably one of the most elegant and well run kitchens in the country. The gift shop rivals any gift shop anywhere. All in all we can hardly wait to return. This is one of the finest Inns in the world, and we have stayed at many so think we can judge fairly. It is a bit out of the way, and a little pricy, but as life is not a dress rehearsal give yourself a treat and try it if you can. Besides you don't want to leave it all to your kids.

This marked our sixth visit to the Inn at Little Washington since 1998. Every year, owner/chef Patrick O'Connell adds more awards, expands his properties, enhances his kitchen, plants another garden and makes visitors wish they never went anywhere else. We always stay for three nights so we can sample every delicacy in the dining room and get as much enjoyment as we can at the Inn while touring Strasburg, Manassas, Winchester, New Market, the Valley Pike and other historical sites in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. For dining or lodging, it doesn't get better than the Inn at Little Washington. We always request Room 9 at the front of the main building with a balcony overlooking Main Street and the fountain on the corner. Like all rooms at the Inn, it is exquisitely and elegantly designed with all the amenities you can imagine--and some you can't. We always play a game when visiting the Inn, trying to catch the maids doing their cleanup chores while we are having breakfast. Yes, it's wildly expensive. But I've never met anyone who said it wasn't worth every penny. Everyone loves to be coddled and spoiled at least once in their lives. Three days and nights at the Inn make up for everything you ever thought you missed. The staff greets you before you get out of your car. They know who you are. Your luggage is delivered to your room before you get there. Then it's time for afternoon tea in the beautiful garden, treats such as pastries and finger sandwiches and champagne or lemonade. If you haven't been there before, you are offered a tour of the main house. Then walk the grounds, see the two llamas and 20 sheep, the unique chicken house and the vegetable garden. Visit the gift shop, a 1770s building that George Washington once danced in. He's the same guy who surveyed the town, which was established in 1794. Patrick O'Connell's latest book, detailing how he built the Inn and his culinary empire over the last 30 years, is a popular seller. The rooms are a page out of Architectural Digest, a designer's workshop, unlike any you have ever stayed in. You have a choice for breakfast, continental comes with the room, or a la carte with several wonderful options off the menu, including fresh trout or home-made oatmeal souffle. Trust me, at the Inn at Little Washington, nothing is ordinary or conventional or even traditional. It is unique, extraordinary and one-of-a-kind. You have never, ever experienced anything like it.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I'm not sure we could handle the pressure of more Stars but it might be fun to try. Your review is inspiring to all of us and we couldn't describe it any better than you did! We look forward to welcoming you back.

We had a wonderful second visit at Christmas arriving on Christmas eve for two days of pure joy and fabulous food and wine. Although because of our belated reservation our room was small, it was nevertheless more than adequate and the appointment was outstanding. We had two wonderful teas at 2:00 p.m. (accompanied by a special egg nog with bourbon) and two wonderful breakfasts and dinners. The food at dinner was sublime. Although Chef O'Connell's dishes have an obvious richness, they also somehow are quite light. As examples, his catalan custard with foie gras, tin of sin (Petrossian osetra caviar with a crab rillette underneath), pan roasted lobster and amazing mac and cheese were all superb. Since the Inn has the Wine Spectator grand award for its wine cellar, there are many great wines to choose from to accompany the food. In our case, the selection of red and white Burgundies is outstanding and we found just what we wanted. Since the ratio of servers and helpers to the patrons must be at least four to one, there is a constant stream of assistance in everything that takes place. In addition, if you take the time and walk across the street, you will find the Inn's farm complete with llamas, baby goats, sheep and chickens. Even in the cold weather, we enjoyed the animals. Finally, the gift shop across from the Inn is wonderful and, if you like Chef's apron and the Inn's special bouquets, you can purchase them at the gift shop. Since our first visit was five years ago, we made a promise that our third visit will not take another five years. David P.
