What an absolute gem! We’ve stayed in lots of hotels/inns around the world, but The Vermont Inn has easily leaped into one of our favorites. After a cancelled Disney trip due to COVID-19, and the loss of a very close family member in June, we decided to book The Vermont Inn just for a chance to disconnect and get away from all that had been thrown our way this year. We are so glad we did, as it was exactly what our family needed right now.
From the moment you pull in, you’re greeted by the beautiful mountain-view that The Vermont Inn overlooks. The building is an old converted farmhouse. It is well maintained, and is carrying on some of the beautiful, unique characteristics of a building its age.
The lobby feels homey, and there are plenty of communal/social areas including a lounge with lots of children’s movies to choose from, an adorable pub-style bar, and a dining area for breakfast. The innkeepers, Kayla and Mike, were incredibly welcoming – giving us a tour and offering an abundance of freshly baked cookies every day. Mike built us a campfire on our second evening and provided us with all the fixings to make s’mores!
We stayed in the Windham Suite on the second level. The room was the perfect size for our family of three (two adults, one child). It was clean, cozy, and had air conditioning. There was a gas fireplace as well, which makes me want to return in the winter just to utilize and appreciate it! The queen bed was a bit uncomfortable, but doable. The mattress on the pull-out couch that my daughter slept it was actually surprisingly very comfortable!
The bathroom is huge in this particular suite! The jetted bathtub was much larger in person than it looked in the booking photos (which was okay by us!) We used it a lot, and it was one of our favorite amenities to the suite. The shower was a great size, and the water pressure was perfection.
The hot tub was closed due to COVID-19, but the pool remained open. We used it every day during our stay. It was clean and well-maintained.
There is a sauna which was also kept very clean. It was easy to use, and very relaxing; especially after a cold swim.
Continental breakfast is included, or you can order a country-style breakfast for a very reasonable price. We ordered the country-style breakfast, and Kayla, the innkeeper, cooked for us. The food was delicious – there was no need to check out breakfast spots as the breakfast here was great!
On our last day, we asked for a late checkout which they were happy to allow. We went down to give our goodbyes and gratitude, and Kayla had a container of still-hot, freshly baked cookies waiting for us. We enjoyed them all on our drive home.
All-in-all, the hospitality at The Vermont Inn has set the bar high for our future vacations. We were so impressed by Kayla and Mike’s ability to maintain such a high level of care and thoughtfulness throughout our entire trip. We left feeling like we made new friends and a new favorite place. We will return one day!
We've stayed at many b&b's and inns, and usually they are very nice. The Vermont Inn is no exception, although they take it a step farther (most of the inns we've stayed at don't boast a fitness center, pool or hot tub).
We were staying in the Northeast Kingdom for two nights and due to a sudden family responsibility in upstate New York decided that rather than go back to southern New England and then turn northward again a day later, we would simply stay up north another night. But, it had to be closer to New York. I did look at places in the Glens Falls area, but when I casually checked out Rutland, I was sidetracked by the Vermont Inn. For not a whole lot more than staying on the Northway, we could still have some foliage and quiet.
We did pick the smallest room (Lilac), which is cute, although the next time, I would choose a larger room for two people (and a little dog). Yes, they're not only dog friendly, they actually LIKE dogs. So many places that are dog friendly are really just dog tolerant. Upon arrival I was surprised by a pet welcome gift (bowl, waste bags, bag of treats). This is the kind of thing the Vermont Inn does.
The cookies (and cocoa and coffee and tea) were great.
The service was wonderful. I asked about a pet friendly place for dinner and we were directed to a place where again, the management was truly dog friendly, not just tolerant.
My husband spent more time in the hot tub there than anywhere we've ever been where one was available.
The breakfast (he had French toast, I had the veggie omelette) was great; there's also the not insubstantial free breakfast (hot and cold cereal, various fruits peeled and unpeeled, yogurt, granola bars, muffins).
The Vermont Inn is a place where your satisfaction is obviously very important to the owners and they work hard to make everything right and take pride in their inn.
And it is something to be proud of.
This Inn is the real deal!!! I came for a conference a few miles away and wanted just to stay at the Inn and soak up their true hospitality (family-like), their awesome gourmet breakfasts, the hot tub, the pool and grounds and the exercise room. What a place. Great for a writer's getaway! So many quiet sweet rooms to choose from with great AC/Heat and minutes to Killington. I LOVED it! The owners go out of their way every day to see you are having what you need and most of all that you are welcomed and feel comfortable.
We rented a room at the Vermont Inn for 3 nights. It was very cozy with many amenities. I used the outdoor pool and the exercise room. Plus, they lit a bonfire every night where you could sit around with a glass of wine and chat with the other guests. You got to order your own breakfast each morning and it was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and very helpful with good ideas about what to do in the surrounding area. I would definitely make a return visit.
Booked direct and got an excellent rate plus our breakfast was included in the price. We each ordered a la cart with small omelet, home fries, bacon, a pancake, juice, fruit and excellent coffee. Not to mention real Vermont maple syrup! Brought our own wine to the room and there were 2 nice wine glasses there. Got some ice from the room down the hall where water, coffee, tea, a microwave and a refrigerator are there for guest use 24/7. Home baked cookies down by the lobby. Did not try the pool or hot tub but they looked inviting. Everyone very nice and all was super clean.
